Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)toxins are effective in controlling insect pests either through the spraying of products or when expressed in transgenic *** discovery of endophytic Bt strains opened new perspectives for studies aimed at the control of sap‐sucking insects,such as the Asian citrus psyllid Diaphorina citri Kuwayama(Hemiptera:Liviidae),a vector of“Candidatus Liberibacter spp.,”associated with citrus huanglongbing(HLB).In this study,translocation of endophytic Bt strains in citrus seedlings inoculated with Bt suspension delivered by soil‐drench,and their systemic pathogenicity to *** nymphs were *** pathogenicity of three wild‐type Bt strains against *** third‐instar nymphs was *** the 10 recombinant strains tested(each of them harboring a single cry or cyt gene),3 can be highlighted,causing 42%–77%and 66%–90%nymphal mortality at 2 and 5 d after inoculation,*** isolation of Bt cells from young citrus shoots and dead nymphs,and PCR performed with specific primers,confirmed the involvement of the Bt strains in the psyllid *** is the first report showing the translocation of Bt strains from citrus seedling roots to shoots and their potential to control *** nymphs that fed on these soil‐drench inoculated *** Bt strains that caused the highest mortality rates have the potential to be used as bioinsecticides to control *** and the identified genes can be used for the production of transgenic Bt citrus.

Gastric Gist as Cause of High Digestive Hemorrhage

Introduction: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) occurrence is uncommon and usually manifested by nonspecific signs and symptoms, which hinders its reasoning as a diagnostic hypothesis. The objective is to report a case of female GIST with curative treatment through video-laparoscopy with partial gastrectomy. Case report: A 61-year-old female patient attended the luiz Gioseffi Jannuzzi School Hospital (HELGJ) emergency room, with a sudden onset of upper gastrointestinal bleeding with hemodynamic instability. After stabilization, she was admitted for diagnostic investigation, showing sub-epithelial lesion of antrum in upper digestive endoscopy (UDE) and solid-cystic mass in the gastric antrum to computed tomography (CT). The conduct was the video laparoscopy surgical approach with partial gastrectomy. The histopathological and immunohistochemical aspects of the surgical specimen showed a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in a gastric antrum of low grade of malignancy, positive e-Kit and mycotic index (50 cga) Discussion: Compared to the scarce reports in literature, the case described presented typical epidemiology, but the clinical picture was not the most incident. Conclusions: Given the rarity of this pathology cases, it is essential to report these in order to elucidate the specificities and also to discuss diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

Syzygium aromaticum L.(Clove)Essential Oil as a Reducing Agent for the Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles

The present investigation details a green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) using the essential oil of Syzygium aromaticum L. (clove) as reducing agent, which is a matrix with a high content of eugenol, an important compound for the reducing action of silver nitrate. The synthesis of AgNP was performed at different pH conditions (pH 7, 8, 9 and 10), and was monitored by UV-Vis Spectroscopy, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and Transmission Electron Microscopy. The synthesized nanoparticles presented characteristic Surface Plasmon Resonance bands with maximum absorbance between 405 and 460 nm. The DLS analysis revealed particle sizes from 31 to 72 nm and zeta potential between -30.1 and -50.8 mV indicating good stability against the agglomeration of the particles in solution. The micrographs obtained by TEM showed different particle shapes and a predominance of spherical-shaped nanoparticles, and average size ranging from 27 to 94 nm. The clove-based silver nanoparticles were efficient in controlling the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, and the minimum inhibitory concentration ranged from 60 to 100 μL/mL. This study highlights the feasibility of clove essential oil as an alternative for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles by a simple, inexpensive and eco-friendly method.

Introduction: Splenic cysts are uncommon and usually do not generate signs and symptoms, being diagnosed by incidental findings. Case report: A 35-year-old, female patient attended the luiz Gioseffi Jannuzzi School Hospital (HELGJ) presenting episodes of vomiting and abdominal pain in the left hypochondrium. She was hospitalized for diagnostic investigation. Computed tomography showed the splenic cyst. The procedure was the surgical approach by laparotomy with splenectomy. Histopathological confirmed the diagnosis. Discussion: Compared to the scarce reports in literature, the case described presented typical epidemiology and clinical features. Conclusions: Given the rarity of this pathology cases, it is essential to report these in order to elucidate the specificities and also to discuss diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

A Descriptive Research With Family Farmers＇ Beneficiaries and Non-beneficiaries of the PRONAF in the Municipality of Itapuranga, State of Goias, Brazil

This article is a part of a descriptive survey which aims to characterize, classify, and compare the household production in the Municipality of Itapuranga, State of Goias, Brazil, considering the access to the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (PRONAF) and its respective differentiation between beneficiary and non beneficiary groups by the program. It applied the technique of group comparison analysis and frequency inquiry, taking into consideration several variables. Information about the origin, distribution and total income, food safety, land property, production diversification, expenditures and participation in social organizations were collected. The sample consisted of 70 producers, the calculation sample was defined by determined value at the confidence level of 90% whereas the sampling error of 7%. The results allowed describing, classifying, characterizing, and comparing the socio economic and productive profile of farmers from that area and their access to PRONAF.

Use of Light Emitting Diode （LED） to reduce the side effects in the oral cavity for patients undergoing radiation therapy in the head and neck region

Purpose: To present a clinical case where the Light Emitting Diode (LED) was used to reduce the oral cavity's side effects in a patient undergoing radiation therapy in the head and neck region。Methods: A male patient, 49 years old, undergoing radiation therapy for Squamous Cell Carcinoma in the floor of the mouth was referred for the dentist's evaluation due to changes in his oral cavity caused by anti-cancer therapy。It was then proposed phototherapy treatment with LED to reduce the side effects of radiation therapy。The used device had the following characteristics: h = 642 nm (red diode), power = 170 mW and 0.8 cm2 tip (prototype from CePOF - Sao Carlos, Brazil)。It was used the punctual application technique, 30 seconds per point。The points were distributed as follows: one point on each buccal mucosa, one point on the lower lip mucosa, one point on the upper lip mucosa and one point on the hard palate。It was performed 14 sessions ofphototherapy with LED, 3 sessions per week, following the mentioned parameters。Results: The presence of a Grade II mucositis lesion on the lower lip mucosa was the only registered lesion occurring after the 30th session of radiation therapy。The patient reported was satisfied with the outcome of phototherapy。Conclusion: Despite the non coherence of the LED's light, its clinical results showed in this report added to the absence of side effects and the lower cost of the device technology suggest that its use in the prevention or reduction of the radiation therapy side effects in the oral cavity can be considered a plausible choice。

Assessing Cleaner Energy Alternatives for Bus Transit in Rio de Janeiro:A Life Cycle Inventory Analysis

From 2003 to 2009 in Brazilian municipalities of over 60,000 inhabitants, buses accounted for more than 25% of urban trips. This trend is not expected to change in the medium term. Worldwide, buses rely on petroleum diesel as fuel. In Brazil, alternative fuels such as biodiesel, natural gas and ethanol are available and the choice among them should depend on the assessment of the entire life cycle of such fuels. This paper uses a Life Cycle Inventory, which is essential to the implementation of a Life Cycle Assessment, to assess six energy alternatives: petroleum diesel, biodiesel, petroleum diesel with 5% of biodiesel, compressed natural gas, additivated hydrous ethanol and dual-fuel system composed by petroleum diesel with 5% of biodiesel and compressed natural gas. In saving total energy consumption, pure petroleum diesel or mixed with 5% biodiesel and dual-fuel systems stand out, in that order. If renewable energy use and net carbon dioxide emissions reduction are the goals, ethanol and biodiesel should be given preference. The addition of 5% of biodiesel in petroleum diesel increases the share of renewable energy in the supply chain of petroleum diesel by 47.5% with an increase of 0.58% in total energy consumption and a reduction of 3.8% in net CO2 emissions during the life cycle. In the case of biodiesel, the addition of 5% of biodiesel in petroleum diesel increases the share of renewable energy in the supply chain by 51.15% with an increase of 0.03% in the total energy consumption and a decrease of 7% in net CO2 emissions in the life cycle. The use of 5% of biodiesel in petroleum diesel does not significantly affect the use of renewable energy (+0.69%) or total energy consumption (+0.04%) in ethanol supply chain, which already shows a great use of renewable energy input. However, a decrease of 9.29% in the net CO2 emissions in the supply chain occurs, which reaches 5.28% in the life cycle.

Although any type or amount of physical exercise may reverse the cellular processes that lead to the aging,regular physical exercise can attenuate the decline in physical and functional abilities observed in ***,the most encouraged activities in gyms and clubs are resistance training,functional training,and *** main objective of this study was to compare the effects of the aforementioned exercises regarding muscle strength,flexibility,functional capability and quality of life of elderly *** divided 36 elderly women in four groups:Sedentary(S);Hydro-gymnastics(H);Functional Training(F);or Resistance Training(RT).The results reveal that the groups engaged in physical exercise showed a significant difference(p<0.05)in relation to S in all *** results also show that between the different exercises evaluated,resistance training practitioners have greater strength and better functional capability.

Renal function after laparoscopic cholecystectomy and analgesia with tramadol and dipyrone or ketorolac

Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) reduces surgical trauma and hospital stay, but requires effective and safe postoperative analgesia. This prospective and double-blind study investigated the effects of analgesia with tramadol combined with either dipyrone or ketorolac on the postoperative renal function of patients submitted to LC. Methods: Pre-and post-operatively (PO), estimated glomerular filtration rates (GFR), obtained by two formulas dependent on blood Cr and one on blood cystatin C values, and tubular enzymuria—alkaline phosphatase (AP), γ-glutamiltransferase (γ-GT)— were determined in well hydrated patients who underwent LC and analgesia with tramadol combined with either dipyrone (Dipyrone, n = 63) or ketorolac (Ketorolac, n = 63). Upon discharge from the post-anesthetic care unit (PACU), pain (through Verbal Numerical Scale—VNS) and need for rescue analgesia with morphine were evaluated. Results: There was hemodilution PO, which made GFR profile analysis more difficult—those dependent on Cr increased and statistically correlated, but those dependent on cystatin C did not change. There was a significant PO increase in AP in the Dipyrone and Ketorolac groups, and in the product of the both enzymes in the Ketorolac group. Upon PACU discharge, the Dipyrone group showed signifi cantly higher VNS scores than the Ketorolac group. All patients received morphine PO, and the total dose needed for pain control differed between groups, but without statistical significance. Conclusions: The association of tramadol with dipyrone or ketorolac in well hydrated patients submitted to LC had similar analgesic effectiveness in the PACU. Postoperatively, the effect on GFR may have been masked by hemodilution, and enzymuria was discreetly enhanced when ketorolac was used.

Radiation therapy and chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis

Purpose: To establish a tumor marker that can be used for the early detection and follow-up of oral cancer patients。Methods: By employing the proteomic approach using MALDI TOF-MS, 2-D gel electrophoresis, sera of patients, and cell culture lines, the serum autoantibodies (autoAbs) were screened, and their serum levels were estimated by ELISA。Results: MRC-5 human fibroblasts were employed as target cells with the aim of targeting the tumor cell invasion into the surrounding stromal tissues, and a mitochondrial membrane protein, Sideroflexin3 (SFXN3), was identified。The serum anti-SFXN3-autoAb levels significantly increased in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma, with 77% sensitivity and 89% specificity against control samples。The serum anti-SFXN3-autoAb levels slightly correlated with the primary tumor sizes; however, the levels were highly increased in T1 early cancer。An immunohistochemical analysis revealed that the SFXN3 antigen is expressed in the stromal fibroblasts between the caner nests and also in the basal layer of the squamous epithelium。The changes in the serum anti-SFXN3-autoAb levels after therapy correlated with the clinical tumor burden。Conclusion: The serum anti-SFXN3-autoAb is worthy of clinical evaluation as a potential novel tumor marker for the early detection of oral squamous cell carcinoma。
