Water bacteriological qualities of.22 recreational beaches in Ensenada Bay, Baja Calif.rnia, Mexico were analyzed during the summer and winter of.2008. Total and f.cal colif.rms as well as enterococci bacteria were used as pollution indicators. Results showed that bacteria concentrations were higher in winter than summer, associated with Southern Calif.rnia rainy season. Bacteria loads in winter exceeded both the daily and monthly standards showing a clear ef.ect of.storm water runof. in the quality of.Todos Santos Bay recreational beaches. Statistical analysis showed signif.cant dif.erences between bacteria concentration during summer and winter. The general behavior of.the indicators based on daily and monthly standards f.om high to low was enterococci > f. > TC> total/f.cal ratio. Water discharged f.om 3 sewage treatment plants were responsible f.r the pollution observed at stations, when the uptake capacity of.plants exceeded the storage. During summer pollution was due to non-programmed discharges f.om sewage treatment plants.

Multiple f.actured horizontal wells (Mf.Ws) currently are the only possible means of.commercial production f.om the low and ultra-low permeability unconventional gas reservoirs. In early production time, f.owback f.uid, which constitutes of.hydraulic water and gas f.ow within f.actures, is collected and analyzed. f.owback analysis has been shown to be a usef.l tool to estimate key properties of.the hydraulic f.acture such as conductivity and pore volume. Until date, most tools of.f.owback analysis rely on empirical and approximate methods. This study presents an improved Green-f.nction-based semi-analytical solution f.r perf.rmance analysis of.horizontal gas wells during f.owback and early production periods. The proposed solution is derived based on coupling the solutions of.two domains: a rigorously derived Green’s f.nction-based integral solution f.r single-phase gas f.ow in matrix, and a f.nite-dif.erence, multiphase solution f.r gas–water two-phase f.ow in the f.acture. The validity of.proposed semi-analytical solution is verif.ed by f.nely gridded numerical models built in a commercial simulator f.r a series of.synthetic cases considering a variety of.f.uid and reservoir property combinations, as well as various dif.erent production constraints. Comparisons against available empirical and approximate methods are also provided f.r these cases.

This paper elaborated on the sustainability of.the copper extraction process. In f.ct, an alternative copper extraction route f.om mixed sulphide ores, chalcopyrite and chalcocite using mesophilic biomass consortium at 33.3 °C and f.rric leaching process were attempted. Bioleaching experiments were settled with a f.action size of.75+53 μm. Bacteria were used as the catalyst. A copper yield of.65.50% was obtained. On the other hand, in f.rric leaching process, with a f.action size of.53+38 μm, when the temperature was increased to 70 °C, the copper leaching rate increased to 78.52%. Thus, comparatively, the mesophilic bioleaching process showed a more obvious advantage in copper extraction than leaching process with a high temperature. However, it has been resolved f.om the characterization perf.rmed using SEM-EDS, f.IR and XRD observations coupled with dif.erent thermodynamic approaches that, the indirect mechanism is the main leaching mechanism, with three transitory mechanisms(polysulphide, thiosulphate and elemental sulphur mechanisms) f.r the mixed chalcopyrite-chalcocite ore. Meanwhile, the speciation turns into Cu2 S-Cu S-Cu5 f. S4-Cu2 S bef.re turning into Cu SO4. While f.rrous oxidation and the f.rmation of.f.rric sulphate occur, and there is a f.rmation of.strong acid as bacteria digest sulphide minerals into copper sulphate at low temperature, which is why this copper production scenario requires a redox potential more than 550 m V at room temperature f.r high copper leaching rate.

In rural territories, the communities use energy sources based on f.ssil f.els to supply themselves with electricity, which may address two main problems: greenhouse gas emissions and high f.el prices. Hence, there is an opportunity to include renewable resources in the energy mix. This paper develops an optimization model to determine the optimal sizing, the total annual investment cost in renewable generation, and other operating costs of.the components of.a hybrid microgrid. By running a k-means clustering algorithm on a meteorological dataset of.the community under study, the hourly representative values become input parameters in the proposed optimization model. The method f.r the optimal design of.hybrid microgrid is analyzed in six operating scenarios considering:(1) 24-hour continuous power supply;(2) load shedding percentage;(3) diesel power generator(genset) curtailment;(4) the worst meteorological conditions;(5) the use of.renewable energy sources including battery energy storage systems(BESSs);and(6) the use of.genset. A mathematical programming language(AMPL) tool is used to f.nd solutions of.the proposed optimization model. Results show that the total costs of.microgrid in the scenarios that cover 100% of.the load demand(without considering the scenario with 100% renewables) increase by over 16% compared with the scenario with genset operation limitation. f.r the designs with power supply restrictions, the total cost of.microgrid in the scenario with load shedding is reduced by over 27% compared with that without load shedding.

Protozoan diseases such as Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) have re-emerged in Northern Brazil and cases of.Chagas Disease also occur. This VL increase leads to early therapy f.r the public. Conf.rmatory parasitological diagnoses in VL are perf.rmed by bone marrow or spleen aspiration, but ELISA, If. or immunochromatographic tests f.r antibody detection are easily perf.rmed and can be used in the presence of.clinical signs as conf.rmatory f.r specif.c therapy. This approach is successf.l in providing therapy and prevention of.death in VL, but there is a chance of.conf.sion with the emerging disease, Chagas Disease (CD), due to cross-reacting and similar clinical pictures, as in this case. Both VL and CD presented many asymptomatic or oligosymptomatic cases, complicating the picture. Our case report emphasizes these aspects. Positive serology, with an IIf.titer of.1/160, and epidemiological correlation, suggests the diagnosis of.VL and imposes antimony therapy. Despite the unf.vorable evolution and signs of.cardiac involvement, the presence of.pericarditis and cardiac tamponade conf.rmed by the echocardiogram suggests CD. We reassessed the prof.les of.a suggested CD serology, the diagnosis was corrected and treatment with CD specif.c benznidazole. The good evolution started with benznidazole corroborates the diagnosis of.CD and discards the hypothesis of.double inf.ction.

Understanding the biological parameters of.some triatomine subspecies of.Meccus phyllosomus （Burmeister） is a crucial f.rst step in estimating the epidemiologie importance of.this group. Biological parameters related to hatching, lif.time, number of.blood meals to molt, percentage of.f.males at the end of.the cycle, number of.laid eggs, and mortality f.r each instar of.3 M. phyllosomus subspecies [M. p. mazzottii （Usinger）, M. p. pallidipennis （Stal）, and M. p. phyllosomus] and their laboratory hybrids were evaluated and compared. No signif.cant dif.erences （P 〉 0.05） were f.und among the experimental hybrids （MaPa, MaPhy, PaPhy） and reciprocal cohorts. In 5 （hatching, number of.blood meals to molt, accumulative mortality, percentage of.f.males, and mean number of.laid eggs） of.the 6 studied parameters （with the exception of.development time）, the hybrid cohorts had better f.tness results than the parental cohorts involved in each set of.crosses. The increase in hybrid f.tness f.und in our study could lead to an increase in the epidemiologic risks caused by transmission of.Trypanosoma cruzi to humans.

This work examines the environmental and geochemical impact of.recycled aggregate concrete production with properties representative f.r structural *** environmental inf.uence of.cement content,aggregate production,transportation,and waste landf.lling is analysed by undertaking a lif. cycle assessment and considering a lif. cycle inventory largely specif.c f.r the *** obtain a detailed insight into the optimum lif. cycle parameters,a sensitivity study is carried out in which supplementary cementitious materials,dif.erent values of.natural-to-recycled aggregate content ratio and case-specif.c transportation distances were *** results show that carbon emissions were between 323 and 332 kgCO_(2)e per cubic metre of.cement only natural aggregate *** values can be reduced by up to 17%by replacing 25%of.the cement with f.y *** contrast,carbon emissions can increase when natural coarse aggregates are replaced by recycled aggregates in proportions of.50%and 100%,and transportation is not included in ***,the concrete with 50%recycled aggregate presented lower increase,only 0.3%and 3.4%f.r normal and high strength concrete,*** some cases,the relative contribution of.transportation to the total carbon emissions increased when cement was replaced by f.y ash in proportions of.25%,and case-specif.c transportation distances were *** absolute values,the concrete mixes with 100%recycled aggregates and 25%f.y ash had lower carbon emissions than concrete with cement and natural aggregates *** environmental benef.ts can be obtained when the transportation distances of.f.y ash are relatively short(15–25 km)and the cement replacement by f.y ash is equal or higher than 25%,considering that the mechanical properties are adequate f.r practical *** observations f.om this paper show that recycled aggregate concrete with strength characteristics representative f.r structural members can have lowe

AIM: To explore methylation of.DAPK, THBS1, CDH-1, and p14 genes, and Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) status in individuals harboring esophageal columnar ***: Distal esophageal mucosal samples obtained by endoscopy and histologically diagnosed as gastric-type(non-specialized) columnar metaplasia, were studied thoroughly. DNA was extracted f.om paraf.in blocks, and methylation status of.deathassociated protein kinase(DAPK), thrombospondin-1(THBS1), cadherin-1(CDH1), and p14 genes, was examined using a methyl-sensitive polymerase chain reaction(MS-PCR) and sodium bisulf.te modif.cation protocol. H. pylori cag A status was determined by ***: In total, 68 subjects(33 f.males and 35 males), with a mean age of.52 years, were included. H. pylori cag A positive was present in the esophageal gastric-type metaplastic mucosa of.18 individuals. DAPK, THSB1, CDH1, and p14 gene promoters were methylated by MS-PCR in 40(58.8%), 33(48.5%), 46(67.6%), and 23(33.8%) cases of.the 68 esophageal samples. H. pyloristatus was associated with methylation of.DAPK(P = 0.003) and THBS1(P = 0.019).CONCLUSION: DNA methylation occurs in cases of.gastric-type(non-specialized) columnar metaplasia of.the esophagus, and this modif.cation is associated with H. pylori cag A positive inf.ction.
