Rare earths have been extensively developed in recent years, however, new hosts allow high excitation and emission efficiency, in this sense, gadolinium vanadate has been extensively studied and in previous works it has been widely used in down conversion systems. Because of the strong absorption of the VO4sub> groups and efficient energy transfer from GdVO4sub> to lanthanide ions, in this work its up-conversion properties were studied when is co-doped with Yb3+sup>, X3+sup> where X = Tm, er and Ho. The powders synthesized presented a high crystallinity and a rounded morphology and exhibit a high luminescence when are excited with IR radiation.

Introduction: Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality among women. some biomarkers and clinical features are used for the diagnosis and prognosis of this tumor, but no prognostic or predictive marker is routinely available specifically for hormone receptor positive tumors. Homocysteine is well known as a risk factor in atherosclerotic vascular diseases, but its participation in cancer biology is still unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate serum Homocysteine and Cysteine as biomarkers of disease progression in breast tumor. As a secondary objective, the effect of a short course (one month) of hormonal treatment on Homocysteine, Cysteine and DNA methylation levels was also evaluated. Methods: Blood samples, tumor samples and normal adjacent tissue were collected during the initial biopsy (pre-treatment) and after one month of hormonal therapy (post-treatment). serum Homocysteine and Cysteine were analyzed by HPLC and tissue global DNA methylation was determined by the Methylation-sensitive Restriction enzyme (MsRe) technique. Results: Variations in Homocysteine levels were significantly correlated with Disease-Free survival. Cox proportional risk model demonstrated that nodal status and Homocysteine levels were independent prognostic factors for disease-free survival (DFs). A significant difference was observed between pre-and post-treatment levels of Homocysteine and Cysteine in advanced tumors, suggesting a prognostic role in patients with poor clinical characteristics. Conclusion: Although more studies are needed to confirm these results, our research suggests that Hcy might be used as a prognostic biomarker for breast cancer.

The Centro de Laseres Pulsados in salamanca,spain has recently started operation phase and the first user access period on the 6 J 30 fs 200 TW system(VeGA 2)already started at the beginning of *** this paper we report on two commissioning experiments recently performed on the VeGA 2 system in preparation for the user *** 2 system has been tested in different configurations depending on the focusing optics and targets *** configuration(long focal length F=130 cm)is for underdense laser-matter interaction where VeGA 2 is focused onto a low density gas-jet generating electron beams(via laser wake field acceleration mechanism)with maximum energy up to 500 MeV and an X-ray betatron source with a 10 keV critical energy.A second configuration(short focal length F= 40 cm)is for overdense laser-matter interaction where VeGA 2 is focused onto a 5 μm thick Al target generating a proton beam with a maximum energy of 10 MeV and temperature of 2.5 *** this paper we present preliminary experimental results.

The Gurupi Belt,in north-northeastern Brazil,is a mobile belt developed in the south-southwestern margin of the sao luis cratonic fragment and crops out as a tectonic and erosional window within the Phanerozoic ***,petrographic,geochemical,geochronological,and Nd isotopic information(new and published)constrain the timing and types of magmatic associations present in the belt and the tectonic settings in which they *** Rhyacian was the main period of magmatic activity,which can be grouped into two main stages.(1)~2185-2130 Ma:pre-collisional,juvenile,calc-alkaline magnesian and calcic ferroan granitoid suites,and minor calc-alkaline and tholeiitic mafic plutonism(now amphibolites),formed in intra-oceanic to transitional/continental arcs;and intra-or back-arc volcano-sedimentary basin.(2)~2125-2070 Ma:syn-(two-mica granites)to late-collisional(potassic to shoshonitic granites and quartz-syenite)plutonic suites produced after crustal thickening and melting,with localized migmatization,that intruded during the compressive D1 deformational phase and concomitantly with greenschist to amphibolite *** is a zonation of the Rhyacian episodes,with intra-oceanic stages occurring to the northeast,and the continental arc and collisional phases occurring to the southwest,indicating the presence of an active continental margin to the southwest,and subduction from Ne to sW(present-day configuration).This magmatic framework is a continuation to the south of what is described for the sao luis cratonic fragment to the north,and the orogenic scenario is identical to what is observed for the same period in the West African Craton(eburnean/Birrimian orogen),which additionally supports previous geological *** the Neoproterozoic,a few magmatic occurrences are *** extensional event allowed the intrusion of an anorogenic,nepheline syenite at ca.730 Ma,which was followed by the intrusion of a crustal,calc-alkaline microtonalite,of uncertain

Aspirin(AsA) irreversibly inhibits platelet cyclooxygenase-1(COX-1) leading to decreased thromboxane-mediated platelet activation. The effect of AsA ingestion on thromboxane generation was evaluated in patients with diabetes(DM) and cardiovascular disease. Thromboxane inhibition was assessed by measuring the urinary excretion of 11-dehydro-thromboxane B2(11dhTxB2), a stable metabolite of thromboxane A2. The mean baseline urinary 11dhTxB2 of DM was 69.6% higher than healthy controls(P = 0.024): female subjects(DM and controls) had 50.9% higher baseline 11dhTxB2 than males(P = 0.0004), while age or disease duration had no influence. Daily AsA ingestion inhibited urinary 11dhTxB2 in both DM(71.7%) and controls(75.1%, P sing a pre-established cut-off of 1500 pg/mg of urinary 11dhTxB2, there were twice as many AsA poor responders(AsA "resistant") in DM than in controls(14.8% and 8.4%, respectively). The rate of AsA poor responders in two populations of acute coronary syndrome(ACs) patients was 28.6 and 28.7%, in spite of a significant(81.6%) inhibition of urinary 11dhTxB2(P seline 11dhTxB2 levels and rate of poor AsA responders were significantly higher in DM and ACs compared to controls. Underlying systemic oxidative inflammation may maintain platelet function in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease irrespective of COX-1 pathway inhibition and/or increase systemic generation of thromboxane from non-platelet sources.

We report the experimental investigation of an all-fiber multi-wavelength passively Q-switched er/Yb laser with simultaneous gain-switched pulsed operation by using a thulium-doped fiber as a saturable *** emission is obtained in three wavelength regions with central peaks at around 1546 nm, 1561 nm, and1862 nm. Multi-wavelength emission with separation of approximately 1 nm is obtained around the wavelength regions of 1546 nm and 1561 nm. stable laser pulses are generated in the pump power range from 3.6 W to7.3 W.

Little is known about the productive performance of Mexican turkey, so the objective of the present study was to characterize growth performance curves of backyard turkey under a confined system. Forty fertile eggs were artificially incubated and turkey weight was recorded at hatch. During growth performance weekly weight was measured until 385 days of age. Turkey commercial feed and water were offered ad libitum. To characterize growth curves, a fourth degree polynomial model regression and a Richards biological model were used, which were compared by determination coefficient (r2), to reach the best fit model. The best fit model was the fourth degree polynomial regression model from a mathematical standpoint of view. It was found that maximum tom growth was reached at 15.7 weeks with a weight gain of 259.3 g/week and in hens at 12.4 weeks with a weight gain of 112.0 g/week. Body weight reached by toms at 40 weeks was 6 kg and hens at 35 weeks with 3.6 kg.
