Biodegradable magnesium alloys are promising candidates for temporary fracture fixation devices in orthopedics;nevertheless,its fast degradation rate at the initial stage after implantation remains as one of the main challenges to be ***_(2)-based coatings to reduce the degradation rate of the mg-implants are an attractive solution since they show high biocompatibility and *** this work,the degradation,cytotoxicity,and antibacterial performance of ZrO_(2)thin films deposited by magnetron sputtering on a mg-Zn-Ca alloy was ***-term degradation of ZrO_(2)-coated and uncoated samples was assessed considering electrochemical techniques and H_(2)evolution(gas chromatography).Additionally,long term degradation was assessed by mass-loss *** results showed that a 380 nm ZrO_(2)coating reduces the degradation rate and H_(2)evolution of the alloy during the initial 3 days after immersion but allows the degradation of the bare alloy for the *** ZrO_(2)coating does not compromise the biocompatibility of the alloy and permits better cell adhesion and proliferation of mesenchymal stem cells directly on its surface,in comparison to the bare ***,the ZrO_(2)coating prevents the adhesion and biofilm formation of ***.

Influenza is an acute respiratory infection caused by influenza viruses(IFV),According to the World Health Organization(WHO),seasonal IFV epidemics result in approximately 3-5 million cases of severe illness,leading to about half a million deaths worldwide,along with severe economic losses and social ***,frequent mutations in IFV lead to a certain lag in vaccine development as well as resistance to existing antiviral ***,it is of great importance to develop anti-IFV drugs with high efficiency against wild-type and resistant strains,needed in the fight against current and future outbreaks caused by different IFV *** this review,we summarize general strategies used for the discovery and development of antiviral agents targeting multiple IFV strains(including those resistant to available drugs).Structure-based drug design,mechanism-based drug design,multivalent interaction-based drug design and drug repurposing are amongst the most relevant strategies that provide a framework for the development of antiviral drugs targeting IFV.

BACKGROUnD Several studies of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage(SICH)patients have shown apoptotic changes in brain samples after hematoma ***,there have been no data on the association between blood concentrations of soluble fas(sFas)(the main surface death receptor of the extrinsic apoptosis pathway)and the prognosis of spontaneous intracranial hypotension(SIH)*** To determine whether there is an association between blood sFas concentrations and SICH patient *** We included patients with severe and supratentorial *** was defined as having Glasgow Coma Scalemined serum sFas concentrations at the time of severe SICH *** We found that non-surviving patients(n=36)compared to surviving patients(n=39)had higher ICH score(P=0.001),higher midline shift(P=0.004),higher serum sFas concentrations(Pnd lower rate of early hematoma evacuation(P=0.04).multiple logistic regression analysis showed an association between serum sFas concentrations and 30-d mortality(odds ratio=1.070;95%confidence interval=1.014-1.129;P=0.01)controlling for ICH score,midline shift,and early hematoma *** The association of blood sFas concentrations and SICH patient mortality is a novel finding in our study.

Plant peroxisomes are subcellular compartments involved in many biochemical pathways during the life cycle of a plant but also in the mechanism of response against adverse environmental *** organelles have an active nitro-oxidative metabolism under physiological conditions but this could be exacerbated under stress ***,peroxisomes have the capacity to proliferateand also undergo biochemical adaptations depending on the surrounding cellular *** important characteristic of peroxisomes is that they have a dynamic metabolism of reactive nitrogen and oxygen species(RnS and ROS)which generates two key molecules,nitric oxide(nO)and hydrogen peroxide(H2O2).These molecules can exert signaling functions by means of post-translational modifications that affect the functionality of target molecules like proteins,peptides or fatty *** review provides an overview of the endogenous metabolism of ROS and RnS in peroxisomes with special emphasis on polyamine and uric acid metabolism as well as the possibility that these organelles could be a source of signal molecules involved in the functional interconnection with other subcellular compartments.

Air pollution has become a major problem in urban areas due to increasing industrialization and *** this study ambient concentrations of Pm1 and metal concentrations as well as source contributions were identified and quantified by using Positive matrix Factorization(PmF)in receptor modeling in the metropolitan Area of Porto Alegre,*** Pm1 samples were collected on PTFE filters from December 2012 to December 2014 in two sampling *** ion and trace element concentrations were *** average concentrations were 12.8 and 15.2μg/m^(3) for Canoas and Sapucaia do Sul sites,*** ion contributions of Pm1 were secondary pollutants such as sulfate and *** elements,especially Cu,Pb,Zn,Cd,and ni also made important contributions which are directly associated with anthropogenic *** results show significantly higher levels in winter than in *** of the Pm1 and the analyzed Pm species and elements originated from anthropogenic sources,especially road traffic,combustion processes and industrial activities,which are grouped in 7 major contributing sources.A back-trajectory analysis showed that the long-range transport of pollutants was not relevant in relation to the contribution to Pm1 and metal *** work highlights the importance of urban planning to reduce human health exposure to traffic and industrial emissions,combined with awareness-raising actions for citizens concerning the impact of indoor sources.

AIm:To investigate the effect of aqueous extract from mangifera indica L.(mIE)on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in ***:mIE(150 mg/kg)was administered in two different protocols:(1)rectally,over 7 d at the same time as DSS administration;and(2)once daily over 14 d (by oral gavage,7 d before starting DSS,and rectally for 7 d during DSS administration).General observations of clinical signs were ***-inflammatory activity of mIE was assessed by myeloperoxidase(mPO)activity. Colonic lipid peroxidation was determined by measuring the levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS).Reduced glutathione(GSH)levels,expression of inflammatory related mediators[inducible isoforms of nitric oxide synthase(inOS)and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2,respectively]and cytokines[tumor necrosis factor(TnF)-αand TnF receptors 1 and 2]in colonic tissue were also ***(IL)-6 and TnF-α serum levels were also measured. RESULTS:The results demonstrated that mIE has anti-inflammatory properties by improvement of clinical signs,reduction of ulceration and reduced mPO activity when administered before *** addition,administration of mIE for 14 d resulted in an increase in GSH and reduction of TBARS levels and inOS,COX-2, TnF-αand TnF R-2 expression in colonic tissue,and a decrease in IL-6 and TnF-αserum levels. COnCLUSIOn:mIE has anti-inflammatory activity in a DSS-induced rat colitis model and preventive administration(prior to DSS)seems to be a more effective protocol.

In simulations of fluidized beds using computational fluid dynamics （CFD）, the description of gas-solid flow hydrodynamics relies on a drag model to account for the momentum transfer between gas and solid phases. Although several studies of drag models have been published, there have been few investigations of the application of lattice Boltzmann method （LBm）-based drag models to bubbling fluidized bed simu- lations. In the present study, a comprehensive comparison of empirical and LBm-based drag models was carried out to assess the performance of these models during simulations of gas-solid flow hydrodynam- ics in a bubbling fluidized bed. A CFD model using the mFIX code based on the Eulerian-Eulerian approach and the kinetic theory of granular flow was used to simulate a 2D bubbling fluidized bed with Geldart B particles. The simulation results were validated by comparison with experimental data. Statistical anal- ysis of the results shows that LBm-based drag models can reliably model gas-solid flow hydrodynamics in a bubbling fluidized bed.
