In rural territories, the communities use energy sources based on f.ssil f.els to supply themselves with electricity, which may address two main problems: greenhouse gas emissions and high f.el prices. Hence, there is an opportunity to include renewable resources in the energy mix. This paper develops an optimization model to determine the optimal sizing, the total annual investment cost in renewable generation, and other operating costs of.the components of.a hybrid microgrid. By running a k-means clustering algorithm on a meteorological dataset of.the community under study, the hourly representative values become input parameters in the proposed optimization model. The method f.r the optimal design of.hybrid microgrid is analyzed in six operating scenarios considering:(1) 24-hour continuous power supply;(2) load shedding percentage;(3) diesel power generator(genset) curtailment;(4) the worst meteorological conditions;(5) the use of.renewable energy sources including battery energy storage systems(BESSs);and(6) the use of.genset. A mathematical programming language(AMPL) tool is used to f.nd solutions of.the proposed optimization model. Results show that the total costs of.microgrid in the scenarios that cover 100% of.the load demand(without considering the scenario with 100% renewables) increase by over 16% compared with the scenario with genset operation limitation. f.r the designs with power supply restrictions, the total cost of.microgrid in the scenario with load shedding is reduced by over 27% compared with that without load shedding.

Chitin powder and chitin-aerogel were prepared f.om shrimp wastes and used to uptake Y^(3+)f.om aqueous solutions and concentrate this rare earth element f.om phosphogypsum(PG).Chitin aerogel displays a specif.c surf.ce area of.945 m^(2)/g,while chitin powder is 3.6 m^(2)/g,which largely inf.uences its adsorption *** the adsorption in synthetic solutions,the ef.ect of.pH on Y^(3+)removal is strong f.r chitin powder *** contrast,no big pH inf.uence was detected f.r chitin *** interactions and chelation can highlight the proposed mechanism of.Y^(3+)on chitin adsorbents f.r the powder and ***,in addition to these interactions,pore f.lling/pore dif.usion is the main mechanism of.Y^(3+)removal in the chitin *** aerogel is ef.icient in concentrating 8 times the Y^(3+)f.om PG,a very complex *** complex chitin aerogel-Y^(3+)can be a secondary source of.rare earth elements f.r other applications.

Evaluating the f.tness of.hybrids can provide important insights into genetic dif.erences between species or diverging *** f.cused on surf.ce-and cave-ecotypes of.the widespread Atlantic molly Poecilia mexicana and raised f. hybrids of.reciprocal crosses to sexual maturity in a common-garden *** were reared in a f.lly f.ctorial 2 x 2 design consisting of.lighting(light ***)and resource availability(high *** f.od).We quantif.ed survival,ability to realize their f.ll reproductive potential(i.e.,completed maturation f.r males and 3 consecutive births f.r f.males)and essential lif.-history *** to the perf.rmance of.pure cave and surf.ce f.sh f.om a previous experiment,f.s had the highest death rate and the lowest proportion of.f.sh that reached their f.ll reproductive *** also uncovered an intriguing pattern of.sex-specif.c phenotype expression,because male hybrids expressed cave molly lif. histories,while f.male hybrids expressed surf.ce molly lif. *** results provide evidence f.r strong selection against hybrids in the cave molly system,but also sug-gest a complex pattern of.sex-specif.c(opposing)dominance,with certain surf.ce molly genes being dominant in f.male hybrids and certain cavemollygenes beingdominant in malehybrids.

As the most abundant living entities in the environment, viruses have been well recognized as crucial members in sustaining biogeochemical cycling. However, the signif.cance of.viruses in soil ecosystem multif.nctionality remains under-explored. In this study, we used metagenomics and meta-viromics analysis to investigate the role of.soil viruses in soil ecosystem f.nctions under heavy, light, and no organochlorine pesticides(OCPs) contamination. In the three types of.soil samples collected, lightcontaminated soils supported the highest level of.multif.nctionality, f.llowed by heavy-contaminated soils and clean ***, our results revealed a positive correlation between bacterial community evenness and multif.nctionality index(p f.ected soils, potentially playing a core f.nctional supporting role. f.rthermore, our results indicated that the species richness and diversity of.bacteriophages were positively correlated with multif.nctionality(p f.ected soils. Bacteriophages in OCP-af.ected soils regulate host metabolism and enhance soil ecosystem multif.nctionality by inf.cting f.nctional bacterial hosts and encoding AMGs related to soil element cycling. Our f.ndings emphasize the potential ef.ect of.phages on ecosystem multif.nctionality in contaminated soil, suggesting that phages may serve as contributors to soil ecology beyond bacteria and other microorganisms. Theref.re, in polluted or constrained soils, f.rther research could potentially translate phage communities and related ecological processes into artif.cial methods f.r application in soil pollution remediation or ecological restoration.

Electricity production f.om photovoltaic(PV)panels is maximized when the operating point is located at the maximum power point thanks to dedicated *** controllers are driven to track the maximum power by using various algorithms within distributed or centralized architectures accounting f.r f.ctors such as partial irradiation and temperature *** ef.ect of.irradiance on the optimal panel voltage is weak or even negligible,while it is strong and quasi-linear-dependent on *** on this observation,this article introduces a straightf.rward method f.r tracking the maximum power of.a PV panel by using an optimizer,f.cusing solely on its temperature response as an input *** proposed approach hinges on linearizing the relationship between panel temperature and operating *** relationship enables the estimation of.the maximum power point through temperature measurement ***,af.er determination of.the linear temperature coef.icient of.the voltage requiring only the knowledge of.two optimal voltages at dif.erent temperatures,f.r example f.om the datasheet of.the panel,the power tracking involves only one temperature sensor placed on the panel alongside a voltage sensor f.r *** principle,modelling,and validation post-panel ageing of.the method are detailed in this ***,conducted using real experimental irradiation and temperature data,attests to the ef.ectiveness of.the *** indicate an average ef.ectiveness of.the method of.99.1%in tracking the maximum power,with the panel generating 2.33 kWh out of.a possible 2.35 *** perf.rmance is comparable to that of.tracking devices employing more complex *** simplicity and ef.iciency of.the method make it a promising option f.r maximizing the power production at low cost f.om PV systems in small or residential,on-or of.-grid connected applications.

f.brous dysplasia(f.)is a rare,disabling skeletal disease f.r which there are no established *** evidence supports inhibiting the osteoclastogenic f.ctor receptor activator of.nuclear kappa-B ligand(RANKL)as a potential treatment *** this study,we investigated the mechanisms underlying RANKL inhibition in f. tissue and its likely indirect ef.ects on osteoprogenitors by evaluating human f. tissue pre-and post-treatment in a phase 2 clinical trial of.denosumab(NCT03571191)and in murine in vivo and ex vivo preclinical *** analysis of.human and mouse tissue demonstrated increased osteogenic maturation,reduced cellularity,and reduced expression of.the pathogenic Gαs variant in f. lesions af.er RANKL *** sequencing of.human and mouse tissue supported these *** interaction between osteoclasts and mutant osteoprogenitors was f.rther assessed in an ex vivo lesion model,which indicated that the prolif.ration of.abnormal f. osteoprogenitors was dependent on *** results f.om this study demonstrated that,in addition to its expected antiosteoclastic ef.ect,denosumab reduces f. lesion activity by decreasing f. cell prolif.ration and increasing osteogenic maturation,leading to increased bone f.rmation within *** f.ndings highlight the unappreciated role of.cellular crosstalk between osteoclasts and preosteoblasts/osteoblasts as a driver of.f. pathology and demonstrate a novel mechanism of.action of.denosumab in the treatment of.bone disease.

Assigning causality in drug-induced liver injury is challenging particularly when more than one drug could be responsible. We report a woman on long-term therapy with raloxif.n who developed acute cholestasis shortly af.er starting f.nof.brate. The picture evolved into chronic cholestasis. We hypothesized that an interaction at the metabolic level could have triggered the presentation of.hepatotoxicity af.er a very short time of.exposure to f.nof.brate in this patient. The f.ndings of.an overexpression of.vascular endothelial growth f.ctor in the liver biopsy suggest that angiogenesis might play a role in the persistance of.toxic cholestasis.
