This study a.ms to genera.e da.a.which ca. be used a. a.potentia. sta.ting point for the upda.ing of the Philippine Wa.er Qua.ity Criteria.a.d the determina.ion of the true impa.t of la.d use to the feca. conta.ina.ion of the Pa.pa.ga.River Ba.in (PRB), the la.gest subwa.ershed of Ma.ila.Ba.. Levels of feca. indica.or ba.teria.(FIB) were determined in the selected tributa.ies of the PRB, representing three la.d use ca.egories, na.ely, the forest/woodla.d (control), a.ricultura. a.d residentia. la.ds. FIB were qua.tified in order to investiga.e the potentia. contribution of the selected a.ea. in the feca. conta.ina.ion of the PRB. The study wa. conducted in 2021 covering Ma.ch, Ma., June, July, a.d September to represent the dry (Ma.ch a.d Ma.) a.d wet (June, July, a.d September) sea.ons. Counts of FIB, na.ely thermotolera.t coliform, E. coli, a.d enterococci were qua.ita.ively correla.ed with the results of the ocula. survey a.d key informa.t interview ba.ed on known feca. contributors a.d their releva.t ra.nfa.l da.a. FIB counts of wa.er bodies in the selected a.ricultura. a.d residentia. la.d use ca.egories ha. Geometric Mea. (GM) counts tha. a.e sta.istica.ly grea.er tha. those of bodies of wa.er nea. the representa.ive forest/woodla.d (control), a.d exceeded the a.cepta.le GM limits for a.l FIB, rega.dless of the sea.on. Nota.ly, the GM va.ues recorded for the wa.ers nea. the selected forest/woodla.d (control) pa.sed the wa.er qua.ity criteria.for a.l mea.ured FIB pa.a.eters for both sea.ons. Furthermore, enterococci levels in the control site were sta.istica.ly lower during the wet sea.on. These initia. findings suggest tha. a.ricultura. a.d residentia. la.d use ca.egories could be ma.or contributors to the una.cepta.le wa.er qua.ity of tributa.ies of the Pa.pa.ga.River Ba.in. The a.leged ca.sa. link between bioenergy production a.d food security ha. been the subject of increa.ing deba.e. Given the complex na.ure of bioenergy, deba.es on the ma.ter often la.k a.solid scientific ba.is. The endura.ce of such deba.es ra.ses the need for more informed a.d systema.ic a.tention to this issue. The present pa.er identifies some of the ma.n pla.ers in this deba.e a.d their a.guments in fa.or or a.a.nst the expa.sion of biofuel industries. a.ca.e study of the Bra.ilia. experience with biofuels will cla.ify the va.idity of a.guments on both sides of the deba.e a.d the potentia. a.plica.ility of the Bra.ilia. biofuel model worldwide.

One of the fra.tions eva.ua.ed revea.ed the presence of high molecula. weight ca.bohydra.es (200 kDa. with a.beha.ior simila. to tha. of a.ema.na. a.d a.other fra.tion with compounds of molecula. weights between 17 a.d 47 kDa. We qua.tified the concentra.ion of a.ema.na. for two different growing periods. The concentra.ion of a.ema.na. in the high molecula. weight fra.tion wa. 99.97 ppm in the ra.ny sea.on a.d 106.03 ppm in the dry sea.on. The concentra.ion of a.ema.na. in the fra.tion of low molecula. weight wa. 9.364 ppm during the sea.on of grea.est ra.nfa.l a.d 26.939 ppm in the dry sea.on.

a.M To investiga.e the ma.n current etiologies of cirrhosis in *** We performed a.cross-sectiona. retrospective multicenter study tha. included eight hospita.s in different a.ea. of Mexico. These hospita.s provide hea.th ca.e to people of diverse socia. cla.ses. The inclusion criteria.were a.histologica., clinica., biochemica., endoscopic, or ima.ing dia.nosis of liver cirrhosis. Da.a.were obta.ned during a.5-yea. period(Ja.ua.y 2012-December 2017). RESULTS a.tota. of 1210 pa.ients were included. The mea. a.e wa. 62.5 yea.s(SD = 12.1), a.d the percenta.es of men a.d women were simila.(52.0% vs 48.0%). The most frequent ca.ses of liver cirrhosis were hepa.itis C virus(HCV)(36.2%), a.coholic liver disea.e(a.D)(31.2%), a.d nona.coholic stea.ohepa.itis(23.2%), a.d the lea.t frequent were hepa.itis B virus(1.1%), a.toimmune disorders(7.3%), a.d other conditions(1.0%).CONCLUSION HCV a.d a.D a.e the most frequent ca.ses of cirrhosis in Mexico. However, we note tha. non-a.coholic fa.ty liver disea.e(Na.LD) a. a. etiology of cirrhosis increa.ed by 100% compa.ed with the ra.e noted previously. We conclude tha. Na.LD will soon become one of the most frequent etiologies of liver cirrhosis in Mexico.

The physicochemica. properties a.d ca.a.ytic a.tivity of pure a.d sulfa.ed tita.ium oxide (TiO2 a.d ) is described in this work. Tita.ium hydroxide synthesized by the sol-gel method wa. impregna.ed with a.1 N H2SO4 solution, va.ying a.ount of sulfa.e ions () in the ra.ge from 10 to 20 wt%. Pure a.d modified hydroxides were ca.cined a. 500°C for 3 h a.d then cha.a.terized by TGa.DTG, XRD, BET, FT-IR, potentiometric titra.ion with n-butyla.ine a.d 2-propa.ol dehydra.ion. Ca.a.ytic a.tivity of ma.eria.s wa. tested in the n-hexa.e isomeriza.ion a. 350°C. The results showed tha. TiO2 a.d ma.nly developed a.a.a.e pha.e. a.l ha.e a.cepta.le specific surfa.e a.ea.(95-105 m2/g). Potentiometric titra.ion with n-butyla.ine revea.ed tha. showed higher a.idity (430-530 mV) tha. compa.ed to pure TiO2 (﹣15 mV), indica.ing tha. this oxide only ha. wea. a.idity. The results showed good rela.ionship between a.idity determined by potentiometric titra.ion with n-butyla.ine a.d the ca.a.ytic a.tivity eva.ua.ed by 2-propa.ol dehydra.ion a.d n-hexa.e isomeriza.ion. Tita.ium oxide with 20 wt% ofions wa. the ma.eria. tha. demonstra.ed the highest ca.a.ytic a.tivity for both rea.tions.
