Transforming growth factor-β in stem cells and tissue homeostasis

TGF-β 1–3 are unique multi-functional growth factors that are only expressed in mammals, and mainly secreted and stored as a latent complex in the extracellular matrix(ECM). The biological functions of TGF-β in adults can only be delivered after ligand activation, mostly in response to environmental perturbations. Although involved in multiple biological and pathological processes of the human body, the exact roles of TGF-β in maintaining stem cells and tissue homeostasis have not been well-documented until recent advances, which delineate their functions in a given context. Our recent findings, along with data reported by others, have clearly shown that temporal and spatial activation of TGF-β is involved in the recruitment of stem/progenitor cell participation in tissue regeneration/remodeling process, whereas sustained abnormalities in TGF-β ligand activation, regardless of genetic or environmental origin, will inevitably disrupt the normal physiology and lead to pathobiology of major diseases. Modulation of TGF-β signaling with different approaches has proven effective pre-clinically in the treatment of multiple pathologies such as sclerosis/fibrosis, tumor metastasis, osteoarthritis, and immune disorders. Thus, further elucidation of the mechanisms by which TGF-β is activated in different tissues/organs and how targeted cells respond in a context-dependent way can likely be translated with clinical benefits in the management of a broad range of diseases with the involvement of TGF-β.

A New Oviraptorid Dinosaur (Theropoda: Oviraptorosauria) from the late Cretaceous of Jiangxi Province, Southern China

A new oviraptorid dinosaur Jiangxisaurus ganzhouensis gen. et sp. nov., is erected based on a partial skeleton from the Upper Cretaceous Nanxiong Formation of Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. The new taxon differs from other oviraptorids in the weakly downturned rostrum of the lower jaw, much-elongated mandible with a height-to-length ratio being about 20% and the length ratio of radius to humerus of about 0.70. This species not only adds a new member to oviraptorid dinosaurs, but also provides more information about oviraptorid paleogeographical distribution in southern China.

Tuning Exchange Anisotropy of Exchange-Biased System

Exchange anisotropy in FM/AFM bilayers has given a lot of static magnetization properties such as enhanced coercivity and magnetization loop shifts. These phenomena are primarily from the effective anisotropies introduced into a ferromagnet by exchange coupling with a strongly anisotropic antiferromagnet. These effective anisotropies can also be used to explain the dynamic consequences of exchange-biased bilayers. In this article, the dynamic consequences such as exchange-induced susceptibility, exchange-induced permeability, and the corresponding domain wall characteristics in the exchange-biased structures of ferromagnet/antiferromagnetl/antiferromagnet2 are studied. The results show that the second antiferromagnetic layer can largely affect the dynamic consequences of exchange-blazed bilayers. Especially in the case of critical temperature, the effects become more obvious. Practically, the exchange anisotropy of biased bilayer system can be tuned by exchange coupling with the second antiferromagnetic layer.

SelfTrust:leveraging self-assessment for trust inference in Internetware

Internetware is envisioned as a new software paradigm for software development in platforms such as the *** reliability of the developed software becomes a key challenge due to the open,dynamic and uncertain nature of such *** make the development more reliable,it is necessary to evaluate the trustworthiness of the resource providers or potential working *** this end,we propose a novel trust inference approach to evaluating the trustworthiness of potential partners to guide the software development in *** main insight of our approach is to employ the self-assessment information in order to improve the trust inference ***,we frst extend the balance theory and the status theory from social science to incorporate self-assessment,and then propose a machine learning framework to extract several features from the extended theories and infer trustworthiness scores based on these *** results on a real software developer network show that the self-assessment information truly helps to improve the accuracy of trust inference,and the proposed SelfTrust model is more accurate than other state-of-the-art methods.

In this paper, we present a stable, reliable and robust method for reconstructing a three dimensional density function from a set of two dimensional electric tomographic images. By minimizing an energy functional consisting of a fidelity term and a regularization term, an l^2-gradient flow is derived. The flow is integrated by a finite element method in the spatial direction and an explicit Euler scheme in temporal direction. The experimental results show that the proposed method is efficient and effective.

The stretchable sensor wrapped around a foldable airfoil or embedded inside of it has great potential for use in the monitoring of the structural status of the foldable *** design methodology is important to the development of the stretchable sensor for status monitoring on the foldable *** to the requirement of mechanical flexibility of the sensor,the combined use of a layered flexible structural formation and a strain isolation layer is *** analytical higher-order model is proposed to predict the stresses of the strain-isolation layer based on the shear-lag model for the safe design of the flexible and stretchable *** normal stress and shear stress equations in the constructed structure of the sensors are obtained by the proposed *** stress distribution in the structure is investigated when bending load is applied to the *** numerical results show that the proposed model can predict the variation of normal stress and shear stress along the thickness of the strain-isolation（polydimethylsiloxane）layer *** results by the proposed model are in good agreement with the finite element method,in which the normal stress is variable while the shear stress is invariable along the thickness direction of strain-isolation *** high-order model is proposed to predict the stresses of the layered structure of the flexible and stretchable sensor for monitoring the status of the foldable airfoil.

Active Network Supports for Mobile IP

The basic mobile IP protocol is difficult to implement on the traditional IP network and not flexible and efficient under certain conditions. For example, firewalls or bound- ary routers may drop packets sent by mobile nodes for security reasons. Traditional networking devices such as routers cannot dynamically load and unload extended services to achieve differ- ent qualities of services. In this paper, a new scheme of using the active network to support the mobile IP is presented. The Softnet, a prototype of active networks based on mobile agents, is introduced. The active network is characterized by the programmability of its intermediate nodes and therefore presents dynamic and flexible behaviors. Special services can be dynam- ically deployed onto the active nodes in the Softnet. This property is definitely required in implementing the mobile IP protocols. The Softnet supports not only the basic mobile IP pro- tocol but also other extended mobiIe IP protocols. Virtual networks for mobile IP services are dynamically formed by mobile agents in the Softnet to provide different qualities of services.
