Cloud-based robotics systems leverage a wide range of Information Technologies(IT)to offer tangible benefits like cost reduction,powerful computational capabilities,data offloading,***,the centralized nature of cloud computing is not well-suited for a multitude of Operational Technologies(OT)nowadays used in robotics systems that require strict real-time guarantees and *** computing and fog computing are complementary approaches that aim at mitigating some of these challenges by providing computing capabilities closer to the *** goal of this work is hence threefold:i)to analyze the current edge computing and fog computing landscape in the context of robotics systems,ii)to experimentally evaluate an end-to-end robotics system based on solutions proposed in the literature,and iii)to experimentally identify current benefits and open challenges of edge computing and fog *** show that,in the case of an exemplary delivery application comprising two mobile robots,the robot coordination and range can be improved by consuming real-time radio information available at the ***,our evaluation highlights that the existing software,wireless and virtualization technologies still require substantial evolution to fully support edge-based robotics systems.

dam-break analysis is of great importance in mountain environment,especially where reservoirs are located upstream of densely populated areas and hydraulic hazard should be assessed for land planning ***,there is a need to identify suitable operative tools which may differ from the ones used in flat flood-prone *** paper shows the results provided by a 1d and a 2d model based on the Shallow Water Equations(SWE) for dam-break wave propagation in alpine *** 1d model takes advantage of a topographic toolkit that includes an algorithm for pre-processing the digital Elevation Model(dEM) and of a novel criterion for the automatic cross-section space *** 2d model is FLO-2d,a commercial software widely used for flood routing in mountain *** order to verify the predictive effectiveness of these numerical models,the test case of the Cancano dam-break has been recovered from the historical study of de Marchi(1945),which provides a unique laboratory data set concerning the consequences of the potential collapse of the former Cancano dam(Northern Italy).The measured discharge hydrograph at the dam also provides the data to test a simplified method recently proposed for the characterization of the hydrograph following a sudden dam-break.

Animal-attached technologies can be powerful means to quantify space use and behavior;however,there are also ethical implications associated with capturing and instrumenting ***,tagging approaches are not necessarily well-suited for examining the movements of multiple individuals within specific,local areas of ***,we assess a method of quantifying animal space use based on a modified theodolite with an inbuilt laser *** a database of>4200 tracks of migrating birds,we show that detection distance in-creases with bird body mass(range 5 g to>10 kg).The maximum distance recorded to a bird was 5500 m and measurement error was≤5 m for targets within this distance range:a level comparable to methods such as GPS *** go on to present a case study where this method was used to assess habitat selection in seabirds operating in dynamic coastal waters close to a tidal *** positional data with outputs from a hydrographic model revealed that great cormorants(Phalacrocorax carbo)appeared to be highly selective of current characteristics in space and time,exploiting areas where mean current speeds wered diving at times when turbulent energy levels were *** birds also oriented into tidal currents during *** together,this suggests that collision risks are low for cormorants at this site,as the 2 conditions avoided by cormorants(high mean current speeds and turbulence levels)are associated with operational tidal ***-all,we suggest that this modified theodolite system is well-suited to the quantification of movement in small areas associated with particular development strategies,including sustainable energy devices.

The authors revise the latest evidence in the literature regarding managing of osteoporosis in ulcerative colitis (UC), paying particular attention to the latest tendency of the research concerning the management of bone damage in the patient affected by UC. It is wise to assess vitamin d status in ulcerative colitis patients to recognize who is predisposed to low levels of vitamin d, whose deficiency has to be treated with oral or parenteral vitamin d supplementation. An adequate dietary calcium intake or supplementation and physical activity, if possible, should be guaranteed. Osteoporotic risk factors, such as smoking and excessive alcohol intake, must be avoided. Steroid has to be prescribed at the lowest possible dosage and for the shortest possible time. Moreover, conditions favoring falling have to been minimized, like carpets, low illumination, sedatives assumption, vitamin d deficiency. It is advisable to assess the fracture risk in all UC patient by the fracture assessment risk tool (FRAX® tool), that calculates the ten years risk of fracture for the population aged from 40 to 90 years in many countries of the world. A high risk value could indicate the necessity of treatment, whereas a low risk value suggests a follow-up only. An intermediate risk supports the decision to prescribe bone mineral density (BMd) assessment and a subsequent patient revaluation for treatment. dual energy X-ray absorptiometry bone densitometry can be used not only for BMd measurement, but also to collect data about bone quality by the means of trabecular bone score and hip structural analysis assessment. These two indices could represent a method of interesting perspectives in evaluating bone status in patients affected by diseases like UC, which may present an impairment of bone quality as well as of bone quantity. Cover crops have long been proposed as an alternative soil management for minimizing erosion rates in olive stands while providing additional ecosystem ***,the trade-off between these benefits and the competition for water with the trees makes the definition of optimal management practices a challenging task in semiarid *** work presents an improved version of OliveCan,a process-based simulation model of olive orchards that now can simulate the main impacts of cover crops on the water and carbon balances of olive *** simple in its formulation,the new model components were developed to deal with different cover crop management *** are presented for simulation runs of a traditional olive orchard in the conditions of southern Spain,evaluating the effects of different widths for the strip occupied by the cover crop(Fcc)and two contrasting mowing *** revealed that high Fccresulted in lower olive yields,but only when mowing was applied at the end of *** this regard,late mowing and high Fccwas associated with lower soil water content from spring to summer,coinciding with olive flowering and the earlier stages of fruit *** also negatively correlated with surface runoff irrespective of the mowing *** the other hand,net ecosystem productivity(NEP)was substantially affected by both Fccand mowing *** simulations under future climate scenarios comparing the same management alternatives are also presented,showing substantial yield reductions by the end of the century and minor or negligible changes in NEP and seasonal runoff.

Hepatic encephalopathy is suspected in non-cirrhotic cases of encephalopathy because the symptoms are accompanied by hyperammonaemia. Some cases have been misdiagnosed as psychiatric diseases and consequently patients hospitalized in psychiatric institutions or geriatric facilities. Therefore, the importance of accurate diagnosis of this disease should be strongly emphasized. A 68-year-old female patient presented to the Emergency Room with confusion, lethargy, nausea and vomiting. Examination disclosed normal vital signs. Neurological examination revealed a minimally responsive woman without apparent focal deficits and normal reflexes. She had no history of hematologic disorders or alcohol abuse. Her brain TC did not demonstrate any intracranial abnormalities and electroencephalography did not reveal any subclinical epileptiform discharges. Her ammonia level was > 400 mg/d L(reference range d L) while hepatitis viral markers were negative. The patient was started on lactulose, rifaximin and low-protein *** the basis of the doppler ultrasound and abdomen computed tomography angiography findings, the decision was made to attempt portal venography which confirmed the presence of a giant portal-systemic venous shunt. Therefore, mechanic obliteration of shunt by interventional radiology was performed. As a consequence, mesenteric venous blood returned to hepatopetally flow into the liver, metabolic detoxification of ammonia increased and hepatic encephalopathy subsided. It is crucial that physicians immediately recognize the presence of non-cirrhotic encephalopathy, in view of the potential therapeutic resolution after accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatments.

Background Many epidemiological studies analyze the relationship between hyperuricemia and cardiovascular outcomes. This observational prospective study investigates the association of serum uric acid （SUA） levels with adverse cardiovascular events and deaths in an elderly population affected by advanced atherosclerosis. Methods Two hundred and seventy six elderly patients affected by advanced atherosclerosis （217 males and 59 females; aged 71.2 ±7.8 years） were included. All patients were assessed for history of cardiovascular disease, cancer, obesity and traditional risk factors. Patients were followed for approximately 31 ±11 months. Major events were recorded during follow-up, defined as myocardial infarction, cerebral isehemia, myocardial and/or peripheral revascularization and death. Results Mean SUA level was 5.47 ±1.43 mg/dL; then we further divided the population in two groups, according to the median value （5.36 mg/dL）. during a median follow up of 31 months （5 to 49 months）, 66 cardiovascular events, 9 fatal cardiovascular events and 14 cancer-related deaths have occurred. The patients with increased SUA level presented a higher significant incidence of total cardiovascular events （HR： 1.867, P = 0.014, 95% CI： 1.134-3.074）, The same patients showed a significant increased risk of cancer-related death （HR： 4.335, P = 0.025, 95% CI： 1.204-15.606）. Conclusions Increased SUA levels are independently and significantly associated with risk of cardiovascular events and cancer related death in a population of mainly elderly patients affected by peripheral vasculopathy.

Purpose The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the Pearson correlations between hemodynamic parameters obtained with near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), namely total hemoglobin (tHb) and tissue oxygen index (TOI %), as indica-tors of blood flow and oxygen extraction, and myoelectric parameters obtained with surface multichannel electromyography (sEMG), namely fractal dimension (Fd) and conduction velocity (CV) slopes, as descriptors of central and peripheral fatigue, during sustained high level isometric contractions at 60% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), in elderly subjects. Methods Ten recreationally healthy elderly subjects (age 67.7 ± 4.6 years), 5 males and 5 females, performed one isometric contraction of the elbow flexors at 120° joint angle at 60% of MVC until exhaustion in two subsequent trials 1 week apart, one for the sEMG and the other one for NIRS recordings from the biceps brachii. Results A negative strong Pearson’s correlation between TOI % slope in the functional hyperemic phase (HP) of contrac-tion and a positive correlation between the slope of TOI % recorded during the ischemic phase (IP) and the CV slope were found (r = − 0.76, P d tHb HP slope and TOI % IP slope and TOI % HP slope (r = − 0.78, P d. No correlation was found between Fd slope and hemodynamic parameters (Fd slope vs. HP tHb slope, r = − 0.19;Fd slope vs. IP tHb slope, r = 0.16;Fd slope vs. HP TOI % slope, r = 0.19;Fd slope vs. IP TOI % slope, r = 0.27). Conclusion In aged individuals, CV slope correlated with muscle O2 desaturation (TOI %) rather than reduced muscle blood flow (tHb) in the ischemic phase of isometric contraction to exhaustion. No correlations were found between myoelectric manifestations of central fatigue (Fd slope) and data obtained by NIRS.
