Rational design and construction of oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)electrocatalysts with high activity,good stability,and low price are essential for the practical applications of renewable energy conversion devices,such as metal-air *** modification through constructing metal/semiconductor Schottky heterointerface represents a powerful strategy to enhance the electrochemical ***,we demonstrate a concept of Schottky electrocatalyst composed of uniform Co nanoparticles in situ anchored on the carbon nanotubes aligned on the carbon nanosheets(denoted as Co@N-CNTs/NSs hereafter)toward *** experimental findings and theoretical simulation testify that the rectifying contact could impel the voluntary electron flow from Co to N-CNTs/NSs and create an internal electric field,thereby boosting the electron transfer rate and improving the intrinsic *** a consequence,the Co@N-CNTs/NSs deliver outstanding ORR activity,impressive long-term durability,excellent methanol tolerance,and good performance as the air-cathode in the Zn-air *** design concept of Schottky contact may provide the innovational inspirations for the synthesis of advanced catalysts in sustainable energy conversion fields.

Exploring the mechanisms of calcium carbonate deposition on various substrates with implications for effective anti-scaling material selection

The unexpected scaling phenomena have resulted in significant damages to the oil and gas industries,leading to issues such as heat exchanger failures and pipeline clogging. It is of practical and fundamental importance to understand the scaling mechanisms and develop efficient anti-scaling strategies. However,the underlying surface interaction mechanisms of scalants(e.g., calcite) with various substrates are still not fully understood. In this work, the colloidal probe atomic force microscopy(AFM) technique has been applied to directly quantify the surface forces between calcite particles and different metallic substrates,including carbon steel(CR1018), low alloy steel(4140), stainless steel(SS304) and tungsten carbide,under different water chemistries(i.e., salinity and p H). Measured force profiles revealed that the attractive van der Waals(VDW) interaction contributed to the attachment of the calcium carbonate particles on substrate surfaces, while the repulsive electric double layer(EDL) interactions could inhibit the attachment behaviors. High salinity and acidic p H conditions of aqueous solutions could weaken the EDL repulsion and promote the attachment behavior. The adhesion of calcite particles with CR1018 and4140 substrates was much stronger than that with SS304 and tungsten carbide substrates. The bulk scaling tests in aqueous solutions from an industrial oil production process showed that much more severe scaling behaviors of calcite was detected on CR1018 and 4140 than those on SS304 and tungsten carbide, which agreed with surface force measurement results. Besides, high salinity and acidic p H can significantly enhance the scaling phenomena. This work provides fundamental insights into the scaling mechanisms of calcite at the nanoscale with practical implications for the selection of suitable antiscaling materials in petroleum industries.

MicroRNA-146a-loaded magnesium silicate nanospheres promote bone regeneration in an inflammatory microenvironment

Reconstruction of irregular oral-maxillofacial bone defects with an inflammatory microenvironment remains a challenge,as chronic local inflammation can largely impair bone ***,we used magnesium silicate nanospheres(MSNs)to load microRNA-146a-5p(miR-146a)to fabricate a nanobiomaterial,MSN+miR-146a,which showed synergistic promoting effects on the osteogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells(hDPSCs).In addition,miR-146a exhibited an anti-inflammatory effect on mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages(BMMs)under lipopolysaccharide(LPS)stimulation by inhibiting the NF-κB pathway via targeting tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6(TRAF6),and MSNs could simultaneously promote M2 polarization of ***-146a was also found to inhibit osteoclast ***,the dual osteogenic-promoting and immunoregulatory effects of MSN+miR-146a were further validated in a stimulated infected mouse mandibular bone defect model via delivery by a photocuring ***,the MSN+miR-146a complex revealed good potential in treating inflammatory irregular oralmaxillofacial bone defects.

The influence of corneal ablation patterns on prediction error after cataract surgery in post-myopic-LASIK eyes

The dysfunction of innate immunity components is one of the major drivers for ulcerative colitis(UC),and increasing reports indicate that the gut microbiome serves as an intermediate between genetic mutations and UC ***,we find that the IL-17 receptor subunit,CMTM4,is reduced in UC patients and dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced *** deletion of CMTM4(Cmtm4^(-/-))in mice leads to a higher susceptibility to DSS-induced colitis than in wild-type,and the gut microbiome significantly changes in *** causal role of the gut microbiome is confirmed with a cohousing *** further identify that S100a8/9 is significantly up-regulated in Cmtm4^(-/-)colitis,with the block of its receptor RAGE that reverses the phenotype associated with the CMTM4 ***4 deficiency rather suppresses S100a8/9 expression in vitro via the IL17 pathway,further supporting that the elevation of S100a8/9 in vivo is most likely a result of microbial *** together,the results suggest that CMTM4 is involved in the maintenance of intestinal homeostasis,suppression of S100a8/9,and prevention of colitis *** study further shows CMTM4 as a crucial innate immunity component,confirming its important role in UC development and providing insights into potential targets for the development of future therapies.

Objective:Yiqi Fumai Lyophilized Injection(YQFM),a Chinese medicine injection,has been widely used for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases,especially heart failure(HF).However,bioactive compounds and underlying mechanisms of YQFM in treating HF remain poorly *** and Methods:Network pharmacology was employed to investigate the bioactive compounds and mechanisms of YQFM.A compound-target network was constructed to screen bioactive compounds based on contribution index ***,an adriamycin-induced HF rat model was established to evaluate the cardio-protective effects of YQFM by hematoxylin and eosin staining and enzyme-linked immunosorbent ***:Network pharmacology indicated that YQFM may alleviate HF through 36 compounds and 109 ***,ginsenosides Rb1,Rg1,Re,Rf,Rb2,Rh1,schisandrin,and ginsenoside Rc were indicated as the top contributors of YQFM in treating *** was predicted to act on multiple targets such as vascular endothelial growth factor A,interleukin-2(IL-2),IL-6,and IL-1β,as well as to regulate signaling pathways such as hypoxia-inducible factor 1,tumor necrosis factor,VEGF,and *** pharmacological study suggested that YQFM could attenuate cardiac injury and up-regulate plasma concentrations of VEGFR-1 and NO in HF *** Rb1,as the major contributor from network pharmacology analysis,also showed a cardioprotective effect and up-regulation of VEGFR-1 in ***:Ginsenosides and schisandrin were predicted as the most important contributors to the cardioprotective effect of *** Rb1 was proved to alleviate HF and increase the plasma concentration of VEGFR-1.

Filling the gaps in icosahedral superatomic metal clusters

Chemically modified superatoms have emerged as promising candidates in the new periodic table, in which Au13and its doped M_nAu13-nhave been widely studied. However, their important counterpart, Ag13artificial element, has not yet been synthesized. In this work, we report the synthesis of Ag13nanoclusters using strong chelating ability and rigid ligands, that fills the gaps in the icosahedral superatomic metal clusters. After further doping Ag13template with different degrees of Au atoms, we gained insight into the evolution of their optical properties. Theoretical calculations show that the kernel metal doping can modulate the transition of the excited-state electronic structure, and the electron transfer process changes from local excitation（LE） to charge transfer（CT） to LE. This study not only enriches the families of artificial superatoms, but also contributes to the understanding of the electronic states of superatomic clusters.

Performance Characterization of CR/PU Asphalt for Potential Application in Assembled Fast-Repairing Engineering

Conventional repairing methods for asphalt pavement have some inconveniences,such as insufficient strength,and are typically *** address these issues,this study proposes a new technological method to design and prepare a high-performance assembled asphalt concrete block for fast repair of the potholes.A series of composite modified asphalt binders with 10%crumb rubber(CR)and different dosages(0%,1%,3%,5%)of polyurethane(PU)are examined to determine the optimized ***,the corresponding asphalt mixtures are prepared for further comparison and assessment of engineering properties,such as moistureinduced damage,high-temperature deformation,and low-temperature cracking *** test results show that PU can significantly improve the high-temperature performance and hardness of(crumb rubber modified asphalt)CRMA binder;3%PU contributes allowing the resistance of CRMA mixture to moisture-induced damage at higher levels,particularly under water whole immersion;as 3%PU is added,the high-temperature rutting deformation resistance of the CRMA mixture increases significantly,and the low-temperature anti-cracking properties are also improved ***,the innovatively designed high-quality assembled fast-repairing asphalt concrete block is recommended as an appropriate option for highway maintenance.

Titanium(Ti)dental scaffolds are widely used in dental prosthetics due to their excellent mechanical properties and ***,conventional Ti scaffolds manufactured through machining often do not fit perfectly with the bone defect *** powder bed fusion(LPBF)technology enables the personalised manufacturing of custom-made Ti scaffolds.A custom-made Ti scaffold was prepared using LPBF and its surface roughness was improved through chemical *** enhance the surface roughness,a nitric acid mixed solution with a specific composition of HF:HNO_(3):C_(3)H_(6)O_(3)=2:2:3 was *** polishing mechanism was investigated by adjusting the F/Ti ratio to control the formation and dissolution of the oxide *** a result,the surface of the Ti scaffold after polishing exhibited a smooth and flat appearance compared to the LPBF part,with a reduced surface roughness(Ra)of 1.23±0.19μ*** custom-made Ti scaffold also demonstrated favourable mechanical properties,with a bending strength of 335.18±33.62 MPa and stiffness of 2.13±0.21 ***,in vitro cell tests confirmed the excellent biocompatibility of the custom-made Ti *** authors present a feasible strategy for the further clinical application of custom-made Ti scaffolds,offering enhanced surface properties and addressing the limitations of conventional machining methods.
