As one of the main groups of marine planktonic protozoa,oligotrich ciliates have shown a high ***,a new aloricate oligotrich ciliate,Strombidium pseudorapulum *** isolated from coastal waters of southeast *** living morphology and infraciliature of this species were studied using live cell observation and protargol *** pseudorapulum *** from its congeners by having a radish-like body with a bumped anterior end and an elongated tail-like posterior end,possessing a red‘eyespot’in apical protrusion of cell,adoral zone of membranelles composed of 12–16 collar and 9–12 buccal membranelles,one spindle-shaped macronucleus,girdle kinety in anterior 2/5 of cell with 45–60 densely spaced dikinetids,and ventral kinety occupying about the posterior 1/3 of the cell with 16–19 *** pseudorapulum *** together with those species having‘eyespot’in apical protrusion in the phylogenetic tree based on the small subunit rRNA gene *** is a sister species of *** with 31 unmatched nucleotides between their SSU rRNA gene sequences.

The basic leucine zipper(bZIP)transcription factor family is one of the largest and most diverse families in plants,regulating plant growth and development and playing an essential role in response to abiotic and biotic ***,little is known about the biological functions of bZIP proteins in yellowhorn(Xanthoceras sorbifolium).Recently,64 XsbZIP genes were identifi ed in the yellowhorn genome and found to be disproportionately distributed in linkage *** XsbZIP proteins clustered into 11 groups based on their phylogenetic relationships with AtbZIP,ZmbZIP and GmbZIP *** intron patterns in the basic and hinge regions and additional conserved motifs were defi ned,both supporting the group classifi cation and possibly contributing to their functional *** to tandem duplication,the segment duplication greatly contributed to the expansion of yellowhorn bZIP *** addition,most XsbZIP genes harbor several stress responsive cis-elements in their promoter ***,the RNA-seq and qRT-PCR data indicated XsbZIP genes were extensively involved in response to various stresses,including salt(NaCl),cold and abscisic acid,with possibly diff erent molecular *** results provide a new understanding of the biological functions of bZIP transcription factors in yellowhorn.

The role of GLI2-ABCG2 signaling axis for 5Fu resistance in gastric cancer

Gastric cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, and options to treat gastric cancer are limited. Fluorouracil （SFu）-based chemotherapy is frequently used as a neoadjuvant or an adjuvant agent for gastric cancer therapy. Most patients with advanced gastric cancer eventually suc- cumb to the disease despite the fact that some patients respond initially to chemotherapy. Thus, iden- tifying molecular mechanisms responsible for chemotherapy resistance will help design novel strategies to treat gastric cancer. In this study, we discovered that residual cancer ceils following 5Fu treatment have elevated expression of hedgehog （Hg） target genes GLII and GLI2, suggestive of Hh signaling activation, Hh signaling, a pathway essential for embryonic development, is an important regulator for putative cancer stem cells/residual cancer cells. We found that high GLI1/GLI2 expression is associated with some features of putative cancer stem cells, such as increased side population. We demonstrated that GLI2 knockdown sensitized gastric cancer cells to 5Fu treatment, decreased ABCG2 expression, and reduced side population. Elevated Gtl2 expression is also associated with an increase in tumor sphere size, another marker for putative cancer stem cells. We believe that GLI2 regulates putative cancer stem cells through direct regulation ofABCG2. ABCG2 can rescue the GLI2 shRNA effects in 5Fu response, tumor sphere formation and side population changes, suggesting that ABCG2 is an important mediator for GLI2- associated 5Fu resistance. The relevance of our studies to gastric cancer patient care is reflected by our discovery that high GLI1/GLI2/ABCG2 expression is associated with a high incidence of cancer relapse in two cohorts of gastric cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy （containing 5Fu）. Efficient electroreduction of nitrate via enriched active phases on copper-cobalt oxides

Electrochemical conversion of nitrate(NO_(3)~-) to ammonia(NH_(3)) can target two birds with one stone well, in NO_(3)^(-)-containing sewage remediation and sustainable NH_(3) production. However, single metalbased catalysts are difficult to drive high-efficient NO_(3)~- removal due to the multi-electron transfer ***, we present a tandem catalyst with simple structure, Cu-Co binary metal oxides(Cu-Co-O), by engineering intermediate phases as catalytic active species for NO_(3)~- conversion. Electrochemical evaluation,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and in situ Raman spectra together suggest that the newly-generated Cu-based phases was prone to NO_(3)~- to NO_(2)~- conversion, then NO_(2)~- was reduced to NH_(3) on Co-based species. At an applied potential of -1.1 V vs. saturated calomel electrode, the Cu-Co-O catalyst achieved NO_(3)~- -N removal of 90% and NH_(3) faradaic efficiency of 81% for 120 min in 100 m L of 50 mg/L NO_(3)~- -N,consuming only 0.69 k Wh/mol in a two-electrode system. This study provides a facile and efficient engineering strategy for developing high-performance catalysts for electrocatalytic nitrate conversion.

Experimental and numerical investigations of the collapse of a laser-induced cavitation bubble near a solid wall

With the collapse of cavitation bubbles near the wall,micro-jets and shock waves will be formed,to generate a high-pressure load and to cause the cavitation damage on the surface of the hydraulic *** to the rapid development of the cavitation bubble collapse process(in the time scale of hundred nanoseconds),the time resolution of the conventional high-speed cameras should reach more than one million frames per second,which will limit the spatial resolution,and obscure the details of the cavitation bubble shape near the cavitation bubble collapse *** this paper,with the help of the laser cavitation bubble photogrammetry system with nanosecond-micron space-time resolution,the experiment is carried out for the cavitation bubble collapse morphology evolution near the *** morphological characteristics of the cavitation bubble collapse at specific times are *** the help of the OpenFOAM code,the collapse process of the cavitation bubble near the solid wall is *** is shown that the cavitation bubble near the wall collapses in an axial symmetric heart shape and the micro-jet directed to the wall will pull the cavitation bubble towards the *** counter-jet generated in the rebound stage will drive the cavitation bubble to move away from the *** numerical simulation of the cavitation bubble shape in the collapse period is well consistent with the experimental results,but the ability to capture the shock wavefront needs to be *** the conditions studied in this paper,the cavitation bubble collapse micro-jet velocity can reach up to a hundred meters per second both in the experiment and the numerical simulation.

Molecular investigation into the transformation of recalcitrant dissolved organic sulfur in refinery sour water during stripping process

Refinery sour water primarily originates from the tops of towers in various units and coker condensate,and cannot be discharged directly to a wastewater treatment plant due to high levels of chemical oxygen demand(COD)and organic sulfur *** after the recovery of H_(2)S from the sour water by the stripping process,the effluent still contains a high concentration of dissolved organic sulfur(DOS),which can have a huge bad *** chemical composition of dissolved organic matter(DOM)in refinery wastewater has been extensively studied,the investigation of recalcitrant DOS from sour waters remains *** the present study,chemical composition of sour water DOMs(especially DOS)was investigated using fluorescence spectroscopy(excitation-emission matrix,EEM)and mass spectrometry,including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)and high-resolution Orbitrap *** GC-MS and EEM results showed that volatile and low-aromaticity compounds were effectively removed during the stripping process,while compounds with high hydrophilicity and humification degree were found to be more *** Orbitrap MS results showed that weak-polar oxygenated sulfur compounds were easier to be removed than oxygenated ***,the effluent still contained significant amounts of sulfur-containing compounds with multiple sulfur atoms,particularly in the form of highly unsaturated and aromatic *** Orbitrap MS/MS results of CHOS-containing compounds from the effluent indicate that the sulfur atoms may exist as sulfonates,disulfide bonds,*** the composition and structure of sour water DOS is crucial for the development of effective treatment processes that can target polysulfide compounds and minimize their impact on the environment.

High-temperature deoxygenation-created highly porous graphitic carbon nanosheets for ultrahigh-rate supercapacitive energy storage

Developing carbon-based supercapacitors with high rate capability is of great importance to meet the emerging demands for devices that requires high energy density as well as high power ***,it is hard to fabricate a nanocarbon with high electro-active surface area meanwhile maintaining superior conductivity to ensure the high rate capability since excellent conductivity is usually realized by high temperature graphitization,which would lead to the structural collapse and sintering resulting in low surface ***,we reported a highly porous graphitic carbon nanosheet with an unprecedented rate capability of 98%of its initial capacitance from 0.5 to 50 A/g for ultrahigh-rate supercapacitive energy *** hierarchical mesoporous carbon nanosheets(HMCN)were fabricated by a template induced catalytic graphitization approach,in which sheet-like Mg(OH)_(2) was employed as catalytic template in situ catalytically polymerizing of catechol and formaldehyde and catalytically graphitizing of the formed carbon *** the co-effect of template(avoiding the sintering)and the deoxygenation(creating the pores)during the high temperature graphitization process,the obtained HMCN material possesses nanosheet morphology with highly porous graphitic microstructure rich in mesoporosity,large in surface area(2316 m^(2)/g),large in pore volume(3.58 cm^(3)/g)and excellent in conductivity(109.8 S/cm).In 1.0 M TEABF_(4)/AN,HMCN exhibits superior supercapacitive performance including large energy density of 52.2 Wh/kg at high power density of 118 k W/kg,long-cycling stability and excellent rate capability,making HMCN a promising electrode material for supercapacitor devices.

Electrical properties and structural optimization of GaN/InGaN/GaN tunnel junctions grown by molecular beam epitaxy

The InGaN films and GaN/InGaN/GaN tunnel junctions(TJs)were grown on GaN templates with plasma-assisted molecular beam *** the In content increases,the quality of InGaN films grown on GaN templates decreases and the surface roughness of the samples increases.V-pits and trench defects were not found in the AFM images.p++-GaN/InGaN/n++-GaN TJs were investigated for various In content,InGaN thicknesses and doping concentration in the InGaN insert *** InGaN insert layer can promote good interband tunneling in GaN/InGaN/GaN TJ and significantly reduce operating voltage when doping is sufficiently *** current density increases with increasing In content for the 3 nm InGaN insert layer,which is achieved by reducing the depletion zone width and the height of the potential *** a forward current density of 500 A/cm^(2),the measured voltage was 4.31 V and the differential resistance was measured to be 3.75×10^(−3)Ω·cm^(2)for the device with a 3 nm p++-In_(0.35)Ga_(0.65)N insert *** the thickness of the In_(0.35)Ga_(0.65)N layer is closer to the“balanced”thickness,the TJ current density is *** the thickness is too high or too low,the width of the depletion zone will increase and the current density will *** undoped InGaN layer has a better performance than n-type doping in the ***-engineered tunnel junctions can enhance the functionality and performance of electronic and optoelectronic devices.

The structures of the solar-thermal membranes always influence the performance of light absorption and salt resistance in *** by the hierarchical structure of the coniferous leaves with excellent sunlight absorption in frigid regions,a coniferous leaf-like nickel black(L-Ni)membrane for desalination by solar-thermal energy conversion was prepared through electroplating method under a constant *** light trapping effect of coniferous leaf-like structure led to the light absorption enhanced to 92%,the evaporation rate improved to 1.38 kg·m^(-2)·h^(-1),and the solar-vapor conversion efficiency of L-Ni membrane reaching up to 89.75%under 1 sun *** stability of the membrane was still excellent after 20 cycles desalination because the coniferous leaf-like structure could enhance the hydrophobicity(water contact angle:152°)of the L-Ni membrane,and it was beneficial to salt *** promising performance of L-Ni membrane with coniferous leaf-like structure provides a possibility to replace the noble metal solar-thermal conversion materials.

Sexual competition and kin recognition co-shape the traits of neighboring dioecious Diospyros morrisiana seedlings

Plants respond differently to the identity of their neighbors,such as their sex and kinship,showing plasticity in their ***,how the functional traits of dioecious trees are shaped by the recognition of neighbors with different sex and kinship remains *** this study,we set up an experiment with different kin/nonkin and inter/intrasexual combinations for a dioecious tree species,Diospyros *** results showed that plants grew better with nonkin and intrasexual neighbors than with kin and intersexual *** combinations had significantly shorter root length in the resource-overlapping zone than nonkin combinations,suggesting that kin tended to reduce competition by adjusting their root distribution,especially among female *** study suggested that the seedling growth of *** was affected by both the relatedness and sexual identity of neighboring *** analysis by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry showed that the root exudate composition of female seedlings differed from that of male *** exudates may play important roles in sex competition in dioecious *** study indicates that sex-specific competition and kin recognition interact and co-shape the traits of *** seedlings,while intrasexual and nonkin neighbors facilitate the growth of *** study implies that kin-and sex-related interactions depend on different mechanisms,kin selection,and niche partitioning,*** results are critical for understanding how species coexist and how traits are shaped in nature.
