A three-dimensional wave-current-sediment coupled numerical model is developed to understand the sediment transport dynamics in the Zhujiang(Pearl)River Estuary(ZRE),*** model results are in good agreement with observed data,and statistics show good model skill *** studies are conducted to assess the scenarios of suspended sediment in the ZRE under the effects of different forcing(river discharges,waves,and winds).The model results indicate that the estuarine gravitational circulation plays an important role in the development of estuarine turbidity maximum in the ZRE,particularly during neap *** increased river discharge can result in a seaward sediment *** suspended sediment concentration(SSC)in the bottom increases with both wave bottom orbital velocity and wave *** of the shallow water depth,the effect of waves on sediment in the west shoal is greater than that in the east *** southwesterly wind-induced wave affects the SSC more than those resulting from the northeasterly wind,while the northeasterly wind-driven circulation has a slightly greater influence on the SSC than that of the southwesterly ***,a steady southwesterly wind condition favors the increase of the SSC in the Lingding Bay more so than a steady northeasterly wind *** the other forcings are same,the averaged SSC under a steady southwesterly wind condition is about 1.1 times that resulting from a steady northeasterly wind.

在以往的矿区水文地质勘探工作中,鉴于矿山开采深度一般较浅,同时为了简化计算,大多将地下水的运动纳入二维平面流范畴。随着矿产资源开发规模、开采强度及开采深度的不断增大,地下水垂向运动特征越发显著,尤其是在大降深条件下,地下水流场呈现出典型的三维空间流场特征,若忽略地下水的垂向运动,将地下水流系统三维模型简化为二维模型,将使模型偏差较大,导致矿坑涌水量预测结果严重失真,因此,地下水运动的垂向速度分量不可忽略。在开展矿山地下水三维空间观测系统建设研究的基础上,构建了矿山地下水三维空间流场模型,提出了“海绵体”型、“蘑菇”型地下水系统理论,明确了地下水系统的运动规律、特点及防治水的关键技术,相关技术体系原理、技术方法对同类型矿山尤其是深部开采矿山水文地质勘探及防治水工作起到了积极的指导作用。通过在北洺河铁矿、司家营铁矿进行实践应用,深化了对矿区水文地质条件的认识,大幅度提高了矿坑涌水量的预测精度,提出了适合矿山的防治水措施,保证了采矿安全。

Diurnal wind （DW） and nonlinear interaction between inertial and tidal currents near the Xisha Islands of the South China Sea （SCS） during the passage of Typhoon Conson （2010） are investigated using observational data and a damped slab model. It is found that the DWs, which are dominated by clockwise wind components, are prominent at our observational site. The DWs increase after the passage of the typhoon from 1 to about 4 m/s, which may be due to the decrease of the sea surface temperature caused by the passage of the typhoon. Kinetic energy spectra and bicoherence methods reveal nonlinear interactions between the inertial currents and the 2MK3.tidal constituent at our observational site. The slab damped model reproduces the inertial currents successfully induced by the total observed winds, and it is shown that the inertial currents induced by DWs are positively proportional to the DWs speed. Even though the observed inertial currents are distinct, the proportion of inertial currents induced by DWs to those induced by the total observed winds is just 0.7%/4% before/after the passage of typhoon. This shows that the inertial currents induced by the DWs are unimportant near the Xisha Islands during the typhoon season.

It is known that the submerged seamount/ridge is a source for the generation of internal *** this paper,a three-dimensional two-layer model is set up to study the generation of internal tides by tidal flows over a submerged seamount/ridge in the *** numerical experiments with different topographic features,upper layer depths,tidal flows and background currents are carried out to study the variations of the induced internal *** is shown that,for the specific stratification,the seamount feature,the slope,the initial upper layer depth and the imposing driven force determine the Froude number near the seamount *** when the Froude number is supercritical,the associated maximum amplitude of the induced internal tide is so large that the internal tide begins to disintegrate,which brings about severe variations of the current velocity and the water elevation fields,and the associated induced baroclinic tidal energy around the seamount peak is much larger than the barotropic *** Richardson number greater than 1/4 is a criterion for stability of shear *** the maximum tidal velocity changes within 0∼3.0◦with time in a period around the seamount peak,the induced internal tide does not stride the seamount peak before it disintegrates,which is different from the two-dimensional modeled *** asymmetrical slope of the submerged seamount is a mechanism for the asymmetrical internal tide generation.

On the basis of 900-year integration of a global ocean circulation model-LICOM driven by ECMWF reanalysis wind data with uniform 0.5°-grids, a quantitative estimate of the annual and monthly mean water exchange of the South China Sea （SCS） with its adjacent oceans through 5 straits is obtained. Among them, the annual transport is the largest in the Luzon Strait, then in the Taiwan Strait, and then in the Sunda Shelf, in the Balabac Strait and in the Mindoro Strait in turn, the largest monthly transport variation appears in the Luzon Strait and Sunda shelf. It is shown that the mass transport through the Taiwan Strait is affected by monsoon, while the transport through the Luzon Strait may be associated with the bifurcation position of the North Equatorial Current off the east Philippines shore; the transports in the Luzon Strait and Sunda Shelf are out of phase in direction but well correlated in magnitude. The annual and monthly mean heat and salinity exchange of the SCS through the straits are also calculated and shown to be in phase with the mass transport. The Kuroshio water carries about 0.43.PW heat transport and 151.3. kt/s salinity transport into the SCS, while most of them is carried out of the SCS through the Taiwan Strait and Sunda Shelf annually. The further model integration based on the 900-year integration for another 44 a from 1958 to 2001 driven by real wind data （ERA40 data） shows that the monthly mean mass transport via these straits varies annually with a large variation range, which may be associated with the seasonal and interannual variations in the current field and sea surface height in the SCS. The mean mass transport through the Taiwan Strait, Luzon Strait, Mindoro Strait, Balabac Strait and Sunda Shelf is 2.012×10^6, -4.063.10^6, -0.124×10^6, -0.083.10^6 and 2.258×10^6 m^3.s, respectively.

On the basis of the QSCAT/NCEP blended wind data and simple ocean data assimilation(SODA), the wind-induced near-inertial energy flux(NIEF) in the mixed layer of the South China Sea(SCS) is estimated by a slab model, and the model results are verified by observational data near the Xisha Islands in the SCS. Then, the spatial and temporal variations of the NIEF in the SCS are analyzed. It is found that, the monthly mean NIEF exhibits obvious spatial and temporal variabilities, i.e., it is large west of Luzon Island all the year, east of the Indo-China Peninsula all the year except in spring, and in the northern SCS from May to September. The large monthly mean NIEF in the first two zones may be affected by the large local wind stress curl whilst that in the last zone is probably due to the shallow mixed layer depth. Moreover, the monthly mean NIEF is relatively large in summer and autumn due to the passage of typhoons. The spatial mean NIEF in the mixed layer of the SCS is estimated to be about 1.25 m W/m2 and the total wind energy input from wind is approximately 4.4 GW. Furthermore, the interannual variability of the spatial monthly mean NIEF and the Ni?o3.4 index are negatively correlated.

A wave-current-sediment coupled numerical model is employed to study the responses of suspended sediment transport in the wet season to changes in shoreline and bathymetry in the Zhujiang(Pearl)River Estuary(ZRE)from 1971 to *** is shown that,during the wavy period,the large wave-induced bottom stress enhances sediment resuspension,resulting in an increase in the area of suspended sediment concentration(SSC)greater than 100 mg/L by 183.4%.On one hand,in spring tide,the change in shoreline reduces the area of SSC greater than 100 mg/L by 17.8%in the west shoal(WS)but increases the SSC,owing to the closer sediment source to the offshore and the stronger residual current at the Hengmeng(HEM)and Hongqili(HQL)*** eastward Eulerian transport is enhanced in the WS and west channel(WC),resulting in a higher SSC *** reclamation of Longxue Island(LXI)increases SSC on its east side and east shoal(ES)but decreases the SSC on its west and south ***,in the WC,the estuarine turbidity maximum(ETM)is located near the saltwater wedge and moves southward,which is caused by the southward movement of the maximum longitudinal Eulerian *** neap tide,the changes are similar but relatively *** the other hand,in spring tide,the change in bathymetry makes the SSC in the WS increase,and the area of SSC greater than 100 mg/L increases by 11.4%and expands eastward and southward,which is caused by the increases in wave-induced bottom stress and eastward Eulerian *** the east side of the WC,the eastward Eulerian transport decreases significantly,resulting in a smaller SSC in the middle shoal(MS).In addition,in the WC,the maximum SSC is reduced,which is caused by the smaller wave-induced bottom stress and a significant increase of 109.88%in southward Eulerian *** results in neap tide are similar to those in spring tide but with smaller changes,and the sediment transports northward in the WC owing to the northward Eulerian transport and

A novel coronavirus has been identified as the causative agent of the severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS). For all the SARS-CoV associated proteins derivatedfrom the SARS-CoV genome, the physiochemical propertiessuch as the molecular weight, isoelectric point and extinction coefficient of each protein were calculated. Thetransmembrane segments and subcellular localization(SubLocation) prediction and conserved protein motifssearch against database were employed to analyze thefunction of SARS-CoV proteins. Also, the homology protein sequence alignment and evolutionary distance matrixcalculation between SARS-CoV associated proteins and the corresponding proteins of other coronaviruses wereemployed to identify the classification and phylogeneticrelationship between SARS-CoV and other *** results showed that SARS-CoV is a novel coronavirus which is different from any of the three previously knowngroups of coronviruses, but it is closer to BoCoV and MHV than to other coronaviruses. This study is in aid ofexperimental determination of SARS-CoV proteomics andthe development of antiviral vaccine.

Effects of westward shoaling pycnocline on characteristics and energetics of internal solitary wave in the Luzon Strait by numerical simulations

An internal gravity wave model was employed to simulate the generation of internal solitary waves(ISWs)over a sill by tidal flows.A westward shoaling pycnocline parameterization scheme derived from a three-parameter model was adopted,and then 14 numerical experiments were designed to investigate the influence of the pycnocline thickness,density difference across the pycnocline,westward shoaling isopycnal slope angle and pycnocline depth on the *** the pycnocline thickness on both sides of the sill increases,the total barotropic kinetic energy,total baroclinic energy and ratio of baroclinic kinetic energy(KE)to available potential energy(APE)decrease,whilst the depth of isopycnal undergoing maximum displacement and ratio of baroclinic energy to barotropic energy *** the density difference on both sides of the sill decreases synchronously,the total barotropic kinetic energy,ratio of baroclinic energy to barotropic energy and total baroclinic energy decrease,whilst the depth of isopycnal undergoing maximum displacement *** the westward shoaling isopycnal slope angle increases,the total baroclinic energy increases whilst the depth of turning point almost remains *** the depth of westward shoaling pycnocline on both sides of the sill reduces,the ratio of baroclinic energy to barotropic energy and total baroclinic energy decrease,whilst the total barotropic kinetic energy and ratio of KE to APE *** one of the above four different influencing factors was increased by 10%while the other factors keep unchanged,the amplitude of the leading soliton in ISW Packet A was decreased by 2.80%,7.47%,3.21%and 6.42%*** density difference across the pycnocline and the pycnocline depth are the two most important factors in affecting the characteristics and energetics of ISWs.
