Consumers’experiences and preferences for plant-based meat food:Evidence from a choice experiment in four cities of China

This paper examined consumers’experiences in and preferences for plant-based meat(PBM)food and their respective correlates,based on data from an online survey of 579 consumers in four major cities in China in early 2021.We first described consumers’experiences in consuming and purchasing PBM food and their correlates,and then analyzed consumer preferences using hypothetical choice experiment.The experiment offered consumers various options to purchase burgers made from PBM or animal-based meat(ABM),combined with different countries of origin(COO),taste labels,and prices.Our data showed that respondents hold overall positive attitudes toward PBM food;85 and 82%of respondents reported experience in eating and purchasing PBM food,respectively.More than half of them ate PBM food because they wanted to try new food(58%),or were interested in healthy food(56%).Income,religion,and dietary restrictions were significantly correlated with consumers’experiences in PBM food consumption.Results from the Random Parameter Logit Model based on the hypothetical choice experiment data showed that 79%of respondents chose PBM burgers and were willing to pay an average of 88 CNY for a PBM burger.We also found that 99.8 and 83%of respondents are willing to buy burgers made in China and those with a taste label,with a willingness to pay(WTP)of 208 and 120 CNY,respectively.The heterogeneity test revealed that females and those with at least a bachelor’s degree,higher income,religious beliefs,and dietary restrictions are more likely to buy PBM burgers than their counterparts.

Off-farm employment and poverty alleviation in rural China

Two phenomena in the history of China's economic growth during the last four decades are the increase in the share of offfarm employment and the progress in poverty alleviation in rural China.Although both of them have been well documented in the literature,less is known about the linkage between the two.To better understand the role that off-farm employment has played in poverty alleviation in rural China is critically important not only for China but also for those countries that are trying to reduce poverty.Here,we examine the impact of off-farm employment on poverty alleviation in rural China.Using the data from two nationally representative household panel surveys(China National Rural Survey and China Rural Development Survey),this paper provides supporting evidence that off-farm employment contributes to poverty alleviation in rural China.Specifically,if household participation in off-farm employment increases by 10 percentage points,the likelihood for a nonpoor household to fall into poverty will decrease by 0.88 percentage point whereas the likelihood for a poor household to climb out of poverty will increase by 3.5 percentage points.In a word,off-employment can not only prevent rural residents to fall into poverty but also help those already in poverty climb out of it.

株洲某超高层商住楼结构总高148.6m,为钢筋混凝土框架-剪力墙结构超高层建筑。该楼存在高度超限、扭转不规则、凹凸不规则、刚度突变、局部不规则等多项超限内容。采用抗震性能化设计,计算采用YJK、ETABS等软件对结构进行小震弹性计算、弹性时程计算及中震计算,采用SAUSAGE软件进行罕遇地震弹塑性时程计算,并针对超限提出相应的技术措施,分析结果表明整体结构可以达到预定的性能目标。

Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on rural poverty and policy responses in China

Given the sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic,a timely study on the impacts of and policy response to the pandemic on rural poverty in China is critically important because China has aimed to completely eradicate extreme poverty by the end of 2020.This paper uses data from the latest round of a nationally representative household panel survey to examine the impacts of the pandemic on rural poverty in China.Our data show that 11.9%of sample households were ever officially registered as poor households between 2013 and 2019,and this poverty incidence fell to 2.7%by the end of 2019.In the middle February of 2020,23%of the households who have graduated from poverty since 2013 perceived that they would fall back into poverty due to the COVID-19.Among those never poor households,7.1%perceived that they would possibly fall into poverty due to the pandemic.Results from both descriptive and multivariate analyses consistently show the interruptions that the pandemic caused in off-farm employment is an important channel that led households to perceive of falling back into or falling into poverty.We also find households in the bottom four quintiles when ranked in terms of household income per capita are much more likely to perceive themselves of falling back into or falling into poverty during this pandemic than those in the richest quintile.Meanwhile,our results show that the education and age of household heads,as well as being from Hubei Province matter in explaining household perception about falling back into or falling into poverty in some cases but not all.The paper concludes with a set of policy responses that China has taken to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on poverty alleviation.

Overcoming the Na-ion conductivity bottleneck for the cost-competitive chloride solid electrolytes

Chloride solid electrolytes possess multiple advantages for the construction of safe,energy-dense allsolid-state sodium batteries,but presently the chlorides with sufficiently high cost-competitiveness for commercialization almost all exhibit low Na-ion conductivities of around 10-5S cm-1or lower.Here,we report a chloride solid electrolyte,Na2.7ZFCl5.3O0.7,which reaches a Na-ion conductivity of2.29 × 10-4S cm-1at 25℃ without involving overly expensive raw materials such as rare-earth chlorides or Na2S.In addition to the efficient ion transport,Na2.7ZrCl5.3O0.7also shows an excellent deformability surpassing that of the widely studied Na3PS4,Na3SbS4,and Na2ZrCl6solid electrolytes.The combination of these advantages allows the all-solid-state cell based on Na2.7ZrCl5.3O0.7and NaCrO2to realize stable room-temperature cycling at a much higher specific current than those based on other non-viscoelastic chloride solid electrolytes in literature(120 mA g-1vs.12-55 mA g-1);after 100 cycles at such a high rate,the Na2.7ZFCl5.3O0.7-based cell can still deliver a discharge capacity of 80 mAh g-1at25℃.

Removal of Cr(Ⅵ)by glutaraldehyde-crosslinked chitosan encapsulating microscale zero-valent iron:Synthesis,mechanism,and longevity

Microscale zero-valent iron(mZVI)has shown great potential for groundwater Cr(Ⅵ)remediation.However,low Cr(Ⅵ)removal capacity caused by passivation restricted the wide use of mZVI.We prepared mZVI/GCS by encapsulating mZVI in a porous glutaraldehydecrosslinked chitosan matrix,and the formation of the passivation layer was alleviated by reducing the contact between zero-valent iron particles.The average pore diameter of mZVI/GCS was 8.775 nm,which confirmed the mesoporous characteristic of this material.Results of batch experiments demonstrated that mZVI/GCS exhibited high Cr(Ⅵ)removal efficiency in a wide range of pH(2-10)and temperature(5-35℃).Common groundwater coexisting ions slightly affected m ZVI/GCS.The material showed great reusability,and the average Cr(Ⅵ)removal efficiency was 90.41%during eight cycles.In this study,we also conducted kinetics and isotherms analysis.Pseudo-second-order model was the most matched kinetics model.The Cr(Ⅵ)adsorption process was fitted by both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms models,and the maximum Langmuir adsorption capacity of m ZVI/GCS reached243.63 mg/g,which is higher than the adsorption capacities of materials reported in most of the previous studies.Notably,the column capacity for Cr(Ⅵ)removal of a mZVI/GCS-packed column was 6.4 times higher than that of a mZVI-packed column in a 50-day experiment.Therefore,mZVI/GCS with a porous structure effectively relieved passivation problems of mZVI and showed practical application prospects as groundwater Cr(Ⅵ)remediation material with practical application prospects.

Safety and efficacy comparison of remimazolam and propofol for intravenous anesthesia during gastroenteroscopic surgery of older patients:A meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Remimazolam is characterized by rapid action and inactive metabolites.It is used as the general anesthetic for many clinical surgeries.In this study,we performed a meta-analysis to evaluate whether remimazolam is superior to propofol for gastroenteroscopy in older patients.AIM To compare the adverse events and efficacy of remimazolam and propofol during gastroenteroscopy in older adults.METHODS The PubMed,Web of Science,the Cochrane Library databases were queried for the relevant key words"remimazolam,""and propofol,""and gastrointestinal endoscopy or gastroscopy."The search scope was"Title and Abstract,"and the search was limited to human studies and publications in English.Seven studies wherein remimazolam and propofol were compared were included for the metaanalysis.RESULTS We selected seven randomized controlled trials involving 1445 cases for the analysis.Remimazolam reduced the hypotension(relative risk,RR=0.44,95%CI:0.29-0.66,P=0.000),respiratory depression(RR=0.46,95%CI:0.30-0.70,P=0.000),injection pain(RR=0.12,95%CI:0.05-0.25,P=0.000),bradycardia(RR=0.37,95%CI:0.24-0.58,P=0.000),and time to discharge[weighted mean difference(WMD)=-0.58,95%CI:-0.97 to-0.18,P=0.005],compared to those after propofol administration.No obvious differences were observed for postoperative nausea and vomiting(RR=1.09,95%CI:0.97-1.24,P=0.151),dizziness(RR=0.77,95%CI:0.43-1.36,P=0.361),successful sedation rate(RR=0.96,95%CI:0.93-1.00,P=0.083),or the time to become fully alert(WMD=0.00,95%CI:-1.08-1.08,P=0.998).CONCLUSION Remimazolam appears to be safer than propofol for gastroenteroscopy in older adults.However,further studies are required to confirm these findings.

HMGA2,a pivotal transcription factor,functions as a versatile regulator implicated in the progression of diverse aggressive malignancies.In this study,mass spectrometry was employed to identify ubiquitin-specific proteases that potentially interact with HMGA2,and USP48 was identified as a deubiquitinating enzyme of HMGA2.The enforced expression of USP48 significantly increased HMGA2 protein levels by inhibiting its degradation,while the deprivation of USP48 promoted HMGA2 degradation,thereby suppressing tumor invasion and metastasis.We discovered that USP48 undergoes SUMOylation at lysine 258,which enhances its binding affinity to HMGA2.Through subsequent phenotypic screening of small molecules,we identified DUB-IN-2 as a remarkably potent pharmacological inhibitor of USP48.Interestingly,the small-molecule inhibitor targeting USP48 induces destabilization of HMGA2.Clinically,upregulation of USP48 or HMGA2 in cancerous tissues is indicative of poor prognosis for patients with colorectal cancer(CRC).Collectively,our study not only elucidates the regulatory mechanism of DUBs involved in HMGA2 stability and validates USP48 as a potential therapeutic target for CRC,but also identifies DUB-IN-2 as a potent inhibitor of USP48 and a promising candidate for CRC treatment.

Decreased Nrf2 protein level and low sperm quality in intractable spermatocystitis

To investigate the molecular etiology of low sperm quality in patients with intractable spermatocystitis,spermatozoa samples from patients with persistent hematospermia undergoing transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy and healthy volunteers were utilized.Spermatozoa samples were collected from the seminal vesicles through transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy or by masturbation ejaculation.Sperm quality was analyzed by a WLJY-9000 color semen analysis system.Measurement of tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNFa)and interleukin-6(IL-6)in the seminal plasma was performed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Measurement of H_(2)O_(2)in the seminal plasma was performed with a hydrogen peroxide kit.The protein levels of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)and phosphorylated-Nrf2(p-Nrf2)were measured by western blot analysis and immunofluorescence assays.Low sperm quality parameters and increased levels of inflammatory cytokines(TNFa,IL-6,and H_(2)O_(2))in the seminal plasma were detected among the semen samples from the patients with persistent hematospermia.Nrf2 and p-Nrf2 were strongly expressed in the nucleus and periphery of human sperm cells,according to the results of the immunofluorescence assays.The protein levels of Nrf2 and p-Nrf2 were significantly lower in the spermatozoa samples from patients with persistent hematospermia than in those from healthy volunteers with normal sperm motility.The results suggested that Nrf2 signaling might play a role in the low sperm quality of patients with intractable spermatocystitis.
