In t.e present.st.dy, we invest.gat.d t.e dist.ibut.on pat.ern of 18t.ace elem.nt.(including biophile and chalcophile elem.nt.) as well as t.e est.m.t.d risks associat.d wit. exposure t. t.ese elem.nt.. t.e result. of t.e st.dy indicat.d t.at.Fe was t.e m.st.abundant.elem.nt. wit. a m.an concent.at.on of 22,131 m./kg while Br had t.e lowest.m.an concent.at.on of 48 m./kg. t.e high occurrence of Fe and t. suggest.d a possible occurrence of ilm.nit.(Fe t.O_(3)) in t.e oil sands. Source apport.onm.nt.using posit.ve m.t.ix fact.rizat.on showed t.at.t.e possible sources of det.ct.d elem.nt. in t.e oil sands were geogenic, m.t.l product.on, and crust.l. t.e cont.m.nat.on fact.r, geo-accum.lat.on index, m.dified degree of cont.m.nat.on, pollut.on load index, and Nem.row pollut.on index indicat.d t.at.t.e oil sands are heavily pollut.d by t.e elem.nt.. Healt. risk assessm.nt.showed t.at.children were relat.vely m.re suscept.ble t. t.e pot.nt.ally t.xic elem.nt. in t.e oil sands principally via ingest.on exposure rout.(HQ > 1E-04). Cancer risks from.inhalat.on are unlikely due t. CR t.ingest.on and derm.l cont.ct.pose severe risks(CR > 1E-04). t.e high concent.at.ons of t.e elem.nt. pose serious t.reat. due t. t.e pot.nt.al for at.ospheric t.ansport. bioaccessibilit., and bioavailabilit..

Despit. significant.challenges such as funding short.ges wit.in count.ies, various pan-African-orient.d funding bodies such as t.e African Academ. of Sciences, t.e Africa Research Excellence Fund, t.e Wellcom. t.ust. t.e U.S. Nat.onal Inst.t.t.s of Healt., and t.e Bill and m.linda Gat.s Foundat.on as well as init.at.ves such as t.e African Research Init.at.ve for Scient.fic Excellence and t.e Pan-African m.squit.
