Synchronous Variations in Abundance and Distribution of Ommastrephes bartramii and Dosidicus gigas in the Pacific Ocean

An analysis was performed in this study to investigate synchronous fluctuations in abundance and distribution of Om-mastrephes bartramii in the Northwest Pacific Ocean and Dosidicus gigas in the Southeast Pacific Ocean.The impacts of two Niño indices and regional water surface temperature on the two squids during 2006-2015 were evaluated,which possibly can explain the observed synchronicity.Catch per unit effort(CPUE)and the latitudinal gravity centers(LATG)of fishing effort were used to indi-cate squid abundance and distribution,respectively.The results indicated that both the CPUE and LATG showed highly interannual variations and synchronous fluctuation with significant negative associations between the two squid species from September to No-vember.Strong positive cross-correlations with 2-month lag was found between sea surface temperature(SST)anomaly in the Niño 3.4 and Niño 1+2 regions,which have significant linkage with the SST on the fishing ground of O.bartramii and D.gigas,respec-tively.Moreover,the proportion of favorable-SST area(PFSST)and the latitudinal location of the optimal SST for O.bartramii and D.gigas were positively correlated with the CPUE and LATG,respectively.Increased O.bartramii PFSST clearly corresponded to decreased D.gigas PFSST in phase as well as the latitudinal location of the optimal SST from September to November over 2006-2015.Our findings suggest that synchronous changes in abundance and distribution of the two squids were due to simultaneous variations in the PFSST and the latitudinal location of the optimal SST front which were affected by the SSTA changes in the Niño 3.4 and Niño 1+2 regions.

为完善舟山南部海域鱼类种类组成及结构特征,文章使用环境DNA技术对该海域鱼类多样性进行检测。通过采集水样、过滤、提取环境DNA、PCR扩增、测序,在该海域6个站位中获得8个环境DNA样品,共检测到9种舟山海域常见鱼类。其中,软骨鱼纲1种,辐鳍鱼纲8种,龙头鱼(Harpadon nehereus)为优势种。研究结果表明,虽然环境DNA技术无法完全替代传统的鱼类资源调查方法,但是可以作为鱼类资源调查和空间分布的补充手段,与底拖网数据结合,为舟山南部海域鱼类组成和群落结构季节性变化提供依据。

厄尔尼诺和拉尼娜事件下西北太平洋柔鱼栖息地时空分布差异

基于2006—2015年9—11月西北太平洋(36°N~48°N和150°E~170°E)海域柔鱼(Ommastrephes bartarmii)生产捕捞数据并结合关键环境因子海表面温度(sea surface temperature,SST)和海表面高度距平(sea surface height anomaly,SSHA),构建各月单因子不同权重的综合栖息地指数模型(habitat suitability index model,HSI),按照模型性能筛选出每月最优模型并加以验证。此外,利用最优模型预测柔鱼栖息地适宜性程度,并比较厄尔尼诺和拉尼娜事件下柔鱼栖息地时空分布的差异性,评估柔鱼生境质量与资源丰度、渔场分布的关系。结果显示,9—11月各月最优HSI模型的单因子适宜性指数(suitability index,SI)SI_(SST)和SI_(SSHA)权重比例分别为9月0.9∶0.1、10月0.7∶0.3、11月0.8∶0.2,显然每月SST贡献率都是最高的,表明水温对柔鱼栖息地时空分布的影响最为关键。对比分析厄尔尼诺年份(2009和2015年)与拉尼娜年份(2007和2010年)柔鱼的生境质量、资源丰度和渔场纬度重心可知,相较厄尔尼诺事件,拉尼娜事件的发生有利于柔鱼的生存,促使其适宜生境范围扩大,产量提升。柔鱼偏好的水温向北移动驱使渔场位置同样北移。

Biodiversity metrics on ecological networks: Demonstrated with animal gastrointestinal microbiomes

Biodiversity has become a terminology familiar to virtually every citizen in modern societies.It is said that ecology studies the economy of nature,and economy studies the ecology of humans;then measuring biodiversity should be similar with measuring national wealth.Indeed,there have been many parallels between ecology and economics,actually beyond analogies.For example,arguably the second most widely used biodiversity metric,Simpson(1949)’s diversity index,is a function of familiar Gini-index in economics.One of the biggest challenges has been the high“diversity”of diversity indexes due to their excessive“speciation”-there are so many indexes,similar to each country’s sovereign currency-leaving confused diversity practitioners in dilemma.In 1973,Hill introduced the concept of“numbers equivalent”,which is based on Renyi entropy and originated in economics,but possibly due to his abstruse interpretation of the concept,his message was not widely received by ecologists until nearly four decades later.What Hill suggested was similar to link the US dollar to gold at the rate of$35 per ounce under the Bretton Woods system.The Hill numbers now are considered most appropriate biodiversity metrics system,unifying Shannon,Simpson and other diversity indexes.Here,we approach to another paradigmatic shift-measuring biodiversity on ecological networks-demonstrated with animal gastrointestinal microbiomes representing four major invertebrate classes and all six vertebrate classes.The network diversity can reveal the diversity of species interactions,which is a necessary step for understanding the spatial and temporal structures and dynamics of biodiversity across environmental gradients.

Effectiveness and safety of acupuncture in treatment of pregnancyrelated symptoms:a systematic review and Meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE:To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture(AM)in the treatment of pregnancyrelated symptoms such as acute vomiting during pregnancy.METHODS:We comprehensively searched the available literature up to November 2021,including Pub Med,Embase,Cochrane Library,Chinese Biomedical Literature Database,and China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database,for randomized controlled trials(RCTs)on AM for the treatment of severe vomiting,insomnia,pharyngeal and pelvic pain,mood abnormalities,and dyspepsia during pregnancy.RESULTS:Sixteen RCTs with a cumulative sample size of 1178 cases were included.Of these,964 patients were included in the Meta-analysis.The Meta-analysis results showed that AM was more efficient than Western medicine in treating discomfort during pregnancy[odds ratio(OR)=1.19,95%confidence interval(CI)(1.11,1.28),P<0.01].AM was better than the control group in improving the visual analog scale scores[standard mean difference(SMD)=0.62,95%CI(0.53,0.71),P<0.01].AM was superior to the control group in improving Numerical Rating Scale(NRS)symptom scores[OR=7.31,95%CI(3.36,15.94),P<0.01].There was no significant difference in adverse effects between the AM and sham-AM groups and the analgesic drug group[OR=0.70,95%CI(0.39,1.28),P=0.25],but the treatment and control groups had mild adverse effects with a low incidence.CONCLUSIONS:AM is more effective than other treatments or pharmacotherapy alone in the treatment of pregnancy-related symptoms,and is relatively safe.However,the quality of the included trials was rather poor,and high-quality studies are required to confirm our findings.

Removal of Cr(Ⅵ)by glutaraldehyde-crosslinked chitosan encapsulating microscale zero-valent iron:Synthesis,mechanism,and longevity

Microscale zero-valent iron(mZVI)has shown great potential for groundwater Cr(Ⅵ)remediation.However,low Cr(Ⅵ)removal capacity caused by passivation restricted the wide use of mZVI.We prepared mZVI/GCS by encapsulating mZVI in a porous glutaraldehydecrosslinked chitosan matrix,and the formation of the passivation layer was alleviated by reducing the contact between zero-valent iron particles.The average pore diameter of mZVI/GCS was 8.775 nm,which confirmed the mesoporous characteristic of this material.Results of batch experiments demonstrated that mZVI/GCS exhibited high Cr(Ⅵ)removal efficiency in a wide range of pH(2-10)and temperature(5-35℃).Common groundwater coexisting ions slightly affected m ZVI/GCS.The material showed great reusability,and the average Cr(Ⅵ)removal efficiency was 90.41%during eight cycles.In this study,we also conducted kinetics and isotherms analysis.Pseudo-second-order model was the most matched kinetics model.The Cr(Ⅵ)adsorption process was fitted by both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms models,and the maximum Langmuir adsorption capacity of m ZVI/GCS reached243.63 mg/g,which is higher than the adsorption capacities of materials reported in most of the previous studies.Notably,the column capacity for Cr(Ⅵ)removal of a mZVI/GCS-packed column was 6.4 times higher than that of a mZVI-packed column in a 50-day experiment.Therefore,mZVI/GCS with a porous structure effectively relieved passivation problems of mZVI and showed practical application prospects as groundwater Cr(Ⅵ)remediation material with practical application prospects.

Frequency Regulation of VSC-MTDC System with Offshore Wind Farms

Frequency regulation of voltage source converter-based multi-terminal high-voltage direct current(VSC-MTDC)system with offshore wind farms enhances the frequency stability by compensating the power for a disturbed AC system.However,it is difficult to reasonably allocate frequency-regulation resources due to a lack of coordination mechanisms between wind farms and the MTDC system.Moreover,it is difficult for the frequency control of the wind farms to manage changes in wind speed;and the risk of wind-turbine stalls is high.Thus,based on the kinetic energy of wind turbines and the power margin of the converters,the frequency-regulation capability of wind turbines is evaluated,and a dynamic frequency-support scheme considering the real-time frequency-support capability of the wind turbines and system frequency evolution is proposed to improve the frequency-support performance.A power adaptation technique at variable wind speeds is developed;the active power in the frequency-support stage and restoration stage is switched according to the wind speed.A hierarchical zoning frequency-regulation scheme is designed to use the frequency-regulation resources of different links in the MTDC system with wind farms.The simulation results show that the novel frequency-regulation strategy maintains frequency stability with wind-speed changes and avoids multiple frequency dips.
