Effect of initial microstructure on microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of 0.12C martensitic steels during quenching and tempering

The microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of a Fe-0.12C-0.2Si-1.6Mn-0.3Cr-0.0025B(wt.%)steel with different initial microstructures,i.e.,hot rolled(HR)and cold rolled-annealed(CRA),were studied through optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,electron channeling contrast imaging,microhardness and room temperature uniaxial tensile *** water quenching from 930℃ to room temperature,a fully martensitic microstructure was obtained in both as-quenched HR and CRA specimens,which shows a microhardness of 480±5 HV,and no significant difference in microstructure and microhardness was *** test results show that the product of tensile strength and total elongation(UTS×TE)of the as-quenched HR specimen,i.e.,24.1 GPa%,is higher than that of the as-quenched CRA specimen,i.e.,18.9 GPa%.While,after being tempered at 300℃,the martensitic microstructures and mechanical properties of the two as-quenched specimens change significantly due to the synergy role of the matrix phase softening and the precipitation *** the maximum UTS×TE,it is 18.9 GPa%obtained in the as-quenched CRA one,while that is 24.4 GPa%obtained in the HR specimen after tempered at 300℃ for 5 min.

Gap junctions, consisting of connexins, allow the exchange of small molecules (<1 kD) between adjacent cells, thusproviding a mechanism for synchronizing the responses of groups of cells to environmental stimuli. Connexin 31 is amember of the connexin family. Mutations on connexin 31 are associated with erythrokeratodermia variabilis, hearingimpairment and peripheral neuropathy. However, the pathological mechanism for connexin 31 mutants in these diseasesare still unknown. In this study, we analyzed the assembly, trafficking and metabolism of connexin 31 in HeLa cellsstably expressing connexin 31. Calcein transfer assay showed that calcein transfer was inhibited when cells weretreated with Brefeldin A or cytochalasin D, but not when treated with nocodazole or α-glycyrrhetinic acid, suggestingthat Golgi apparatus and actin filaments, but not microtubules, are crucial to the trafficking and assembly of connexin31, as well as the formation of gap junction intercellular communication by connexin 31. Additionally, α-glycyrrhetinicacid did not effectively inhibit gap junctional intercellular communication formed by connexin 31. Pulse-chase assayrevealed that connexin 31 had a half-life of about 6 h. Moreover, Western blotting and fluorescent staining demonstratedthat in HeLa cells stably expressing connexin 31, the amount of connexin 31 was significantly increased after these cellswere treated with proteasomal or lysosomal inhibitors. These findings indicate that connexin 31 was rapidly renewed,and possibly degraded by both proteasomal and lysosomal pathways.

The durability of wear-resistant tetrahedral amorphous carbon（ta-C） coatings is intimately linked to their thickness and the concentration of *** enhance the lifespan of the coatings,we have prepared a multilayer coating consisting of alternating layers of Ti and ta-C,denoted as（Ti/ta-C）_n,using arc ion plating.A multi-layer structure in conjunction with stage cooling is employed to enhance the thickness and promote *** results indicate that the ID/IGvalue,representing the ratio of the intensity of the D peak to that of the G peak in Raman spectroscopy,decreases from 0.85 when no stage cooling is applied to 0.35 when stage cooling is employed,suggesting an enhancement in the fraction of sp3bonds within the *** obtained（Ti/ta-C）_n multilayer coating without peeling off has a maximum thickness of 1.14 μm,which is almost double that of the ta-C coating single layer *** the same time,the coating has a low coefficient of friction,down to 0.069,and maintains excellent friction properties with a wear rate of 3.4×10-6mm3·N-1·*** results conclusively show that the preparation technology can enhance both thickness and sp3bonding in ta-C coatings,significantly expanding their utility across tools,molds,and precision engineering components.
