Attention shifting during child-robot interaction:a preliminary clinical study for children with autism spectrum disorder

There is an increasing need to introduce socially interactive robots as a means of assistance in autism spectrum disorder(ASD) treatment and rehabilitation, to improve the effectiveness of rehabilitation training and the diversification of treatment, and to alleviate the shortage of medical personnel in china's Mainland and other places in the world. In this preliminary clinical study, three different socially interactive robots with different appearances and functionalities were tested in therapy-like settings in four different rehabilitation facilities/institutions in Shenzhen, china. Seventy-four participants, including 52.children with ASD, whose processes of interacting with robots were recorded by three different cameras, all received a single-session three-robot intervention. Data were collected from not only the videos recorded, but also the questionnaires filled mostly by parents of the participants. Some insights from the preliminary results were obtained. These can contribute to the research on physical robo it design and evaluations on robots in therapy-like settings. First, when doing physical robot design, some preferential focus should be on aspects of appearances and functionalities. Second, attention analysis using algorithms such as estimation of the directions of gaze and head posture of a child in the video clips can be adopted to quantitatively measure the prosocial behaviors and actions(e.g., attention shifting from one particular robot to other robots) of the children. Third, observing and calculating the frequency of the time children spend on exploring/playing with the robots in the video clips can be adopted to qualitatively analyze such behaviors and actions. Limitations of the present study are also presented.

Dynamical investigation of tunable magnetism in Au@Ni-carbide nanocrystals by a combined soft and hard X-ray absorption spectroscopy

Nickel based magnetic nanocrystals have been widely applied in magnetic and catalytic *** magnetic properties of nickel can be easily obtained via non-magnetic doping or phase ***,phase transformation from face centered cubic(fcc)to hexagonal close packed(hcp)induced magnetism adjustment of Ni are always confused with nickel carbide(Ni_(3)C),due to the similar atomic structures of hcp-Ni and ***,we present series of Au@Ni-carbide magnetic materials achieved from the controlled carbonation of Au@Ni core-shell structures,whose magnetism is tunable by adjusting the amount of carbon in the Ni ***-situ hard X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS)at the metal K edge and soft XAS at both metal L edge and carbon K edge provide solid evidence for the carbonation process from fcc-Ni to Ni_(x)C,rather than phase transformation to *** investigation reveals that the magnetism of the hybrids is mainly contributed from the residual *** result represents an accurate and effective way to distinguish hexagonal Ni_(3)C from hcp-Ni,and provides the pathway to control magnetism of Ni-based materials for applications.

probing the axis of a rotator is important in astrophysics,aerospace,manufacturing,machinery,automation,and virtual reality,*** optical solutions commonly require multiple sequential measurements via symmetry-broken light fields,which make them time-consuming,inefficient,and prone to accumulated ***,we propose the concept of a dual-point noncoaxial rotational Doppler effect(DNrDE)and demonstrate a one-shot detection technique to solve this *** on-demand synthetic orbital angular momentum(OAM)light beam impinges on a rotating scatterer surface,supporting dual-point rotational Doppler shifts,in which the information of the rotating axis is acquired by comparing these two frequency shifts with a prescribed *** existence of arbitrary dual-point Doppler shifts enables the one-time direct identification of rotating axis orientations,which is fundamentally inaccessible in single-point *** robust detection technique is compatible with generalised synthetic OAM light fields by utilising optical modal *** with traditional approaches,our DNrDE-driven detection approach exhibits a four-fold enhancement in measurement speed,higher energy efficiency,and superior accuracy with a maximal absolute measurement error of 2.2.°.The proposed dual-point detection method holds great promise for detecting rotating bodies in various applications,such as astronomical surveys and industrial manufacturing.

In the centenary year of Einstein's General Theory of relativity, this paper reviews the current status of gravitational wave astronomy across a spectrum which stretches from attohertz to kilohertz frequencies. Sect. 1 of this paper reviews the historical development of gravitational wave astronomy from Einstein's first prediction to our current understanding the spectrum. It is shown that detection of signals in the audio frequency spectrum can be expected very soon, and that a north-south pair of next generation detectors would provide large scientific benefits. Sect. 2.reviews the theory of gravitational waves and the principles of detection using laser interferometry. The state of the art Advanced LIGO detectors are then described. These detectors have a high chance of detecting the first events in the near future. Sect. 3 reviews the KAGrA detector currently under development in Japan,which will be the first laser interferometer detector to use cryogenic test masses. Sect. 4 of this paper reviews gravitational wave detection in the nanohertz frequency band using the technique of pulsar timing. Sect. 5 reviews the status of gravitational wave detection in the attohertz frequency band, detectable in the polarisation of the cosmic microwave background, and discusses the prospects for detection of primordial waves from the big bang. The techniques described in sects. 1–5 have already placed significant limits on the strength of gravitational wave sources. Sects. 6 and 7 review ambitious plans for future space based gravitational wave detectors in the millihertz frequency band. Sect. 6 presents a roadmap for development of space based gravitational wave detectors by china while sect. 7 discusses a key enab{2.g technology for space interferometry known as time delay interferometry.

在光电成像系统中,多相机/孔径的计算成像技术正逐渐成为实现宽视场高分辨率图像重建的关键手段,以突破单一成像系统空间带宽积受限的固有瓶颈。然而,多孔径图像合成通常涉及子眼图像间特征点提取、描述子匹配和对齐等步骤,重建计算量大,面临着实时性不足的挑战。尤其是当场景中存在运动物体时,重建图像通常会出现伪影和错位等“鬼影”现象,影响成像质量。针对上述成像问题,提出了一种基于多孔径复眼相机阵列的动态全景图像合成技术,采用统一计算架构(CUDA)对基于加速鲁棒特征(SUrF)配准算法进行优化加速,并结合帧差法降低多帧配准过程中冗余的信息量,将合成图像的配准精度提升了15.91%,配准时间减少了91.2.%。同时在接缝线的能量函数中引入基于视觉背景提取(VIBE)算法并建立相应的接缝线更新准则,从而实现多帧运动图像的无错位、伪影的全景图像合成。基于上述算法,构建了5×5多孔径复眼相机阵列成像系统,实现横向90°视场合成。与传统的接缝线算法相比,本文方案在无参考图像空间质量评估指标(BrISQUE)与基于感知的图像质量评估指标(pIQE)上分别实现了1.96与1.85的优化降低。此外,该系统能够在交互帧速率13 frame/s下,完成2.张子图的拼接、重建及合成工作,相较于非CUDA加速的拼接算法重建时间减少99.7%。

Sensory hair cells(HCs)in the cochlea cannot regenerate spontaneously in adult mammals after being damaged by external or genetic ***,several genes and signaling pathways are reported to induce cochlear HC regeneration at the early neonatal ***14 encodes a ribosomal protein that is involved in the regulation of cell differentiation and proliferation in ***,its roles in the cochlea have not been reported in ***,we specifically overexpressed rps14 in Lgr5+progenitor cells in the newborn mouse cochlea and found that rps14 conditional overexpression(cOE)mice had significantly increased the ectopic HCs,including inner and outer *** further explored the source of these ectopic HCs and found no EdU+supporting cells observed in the rps14 cOE *** lineage tracing results,on the other hand,revealed that rps14 cOE mice had significantly more tdTomato+HCs in their cochleae than {2. *** results indicated that regenerated HCs by cOE of rps14 are most likely derived from inducing the direct trans-differentiation of Lgr5+progenitor cells into ***,real-time qpCr results suggested that the transcription factor genes Atoh1 and Gfi1,which are important in regulating HC differentiation,were upregulated in the cochlear basilar membrane of rps14 cOE *** summary,this study provides in vivo evidence that,in the postnatal mouse cochlea,rps14 is a potential gene that can promote the spontaneous trans-differentiation of Lgr5+progenitor cells into *** gene may one day be exploited as a therapeutic target for treating hearing loss.
