Management of coal mining and coal processing wastes, particularly of high sulfur coals, can generate excessive amounts of sulfate （SO4^2-） and chloride （Cl^-） in mine drainage that are known to negatively impact quality of both surface and ground water. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency provides guidance to states on allowable SO4^2- and Cl^- discharges from mine sites. This research evaluates the hypothesis that co-disposal of CCPW and FCPW with appropriate compaction can result in improved geochemical and geotechnical environments that will minimize acid mine drainage formation and SO4^2- and Cl^- discharges. Addition of ground limestone （ag-lime） to the mix was also evaluated as a drying agent and for improvement in overall geochemistry by buffering higher pH values within the coal waste. These objectives were to develop and implement innovative concepts for engineered co-management of CCPW and FCPW at coal mining sites. The authors performed long-term field column leaching studies to analyze improvement in SO4^2- and Cl^- in water quality. Requirements for stricter standards in some states led to the need for development of potentially improved environmental practices. This paper presents the overall encouraging results of the field kinetic studies.

Effective landscape-scale fuel management strategies are essential for reducing wildfire risk in Mediterranean fire-prone *** this study,the minimum travel time(MTT)fire-spread algorithm as implemented in FlamMap was applied to assess the potential of alternative fuel treatments for lowering wildfire losses in a 5,740-ha study area in eastern Sardinia,***-seven wildfires at 10-m resolution were simulated considering three wind speeds(15,18,and 21 km h-1)to compare fuel treatments:no treatment(NT),irrigated agroforestry areas with shrub clearing(T1),prescribed fire in eucalyptus stands(T2),and irrigated grasslands(T3).The simulations replicated a recent large wildfire that occurred in the study area(Orrìwildfire,2019)and considered the weather and fuel moisture conditions associated with this *** average wildfire exposure outputs(burned area,probability of burning,conditional flame length,potential crown fire occurrence,and surfaces withflame lengths above 2.5 m)decreased after fuel treatments,compared to no treatment.T1 was the most effective strategy in mitigating wildfire hazards and provided the most significant performance for several wildfire exposure *** only 0.5%of the study area(~30 ha)resulted in a decrease in all wildfire exposure metrics to~10%within the study *** addition,the total surface characterized by high flame length(average>2.5 m)was the lowest in the T1 *** study can help land and fire managers optimize fuel treatment opportunities and wildfire risk mitigation strategies in Mediterranean areas.

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) negatively affect quality of life, causing pain and restricted jaw movements. This study evaluates the effectiveness of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) on TMD patients before orthodontic treatment at the Juarez Autonomous University of Tabasco. A quantitative, quasi-experimental study was conducted with 30 patients who met the inclusion criteria: aged 18 to 65 years, with TMJ pain symptoms, diagnosed with temporomandibular disorders using the Helkimo index, and who had provided informed consent for the study. The range of mandibular movement and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were measured to record values before therapy. The electrodes of the TENS therapy were positioned on both sides of the jaw in the preauricular area and the masseter muscle, the therapy was administered for 40 minutes, utilizing a frequency of 2 - 4 Hz and a pulse duration of 300 microseconds. Following this, the range of mandibular movement and the VAS were reassessed to evaluate the outcomes., significantly improved maximum mouth opening (37.7 ± 6.4 mm to 44.6 ± 5.88 mm), right laterality (3.86 ± 1.57 mm to 5.43 ± 1.21 mm), left laterality (3.13 ± 1.63 mm to 4.53 ± 1.61 mm), protrusion (4.01 ± 1.7 mm to 5.36 ± 1.32 mm), and pain perception (4.56 ± 2.045 to 2.03 ± 1.5) (P < 0.01). TENS therapy enhances mandibular movement and reduces pain, making it a well-tolerated, non-invasive complementary treatment for TMD.

The hippocampus is involved in important brain functions such as learning and memory,spatial navigation,fear processing,and social behavior(Dudek et al,2016).The most prominent areas of the hippocampus are typically denoted as the dentate gyrus and the three areas of the cornu ammonis(CA1,CA2,and CA3).Discovered by Lorente de Nó(1934),the CA2 region of the hippocampus is a relatively small area interposed between CA3 and CA1 that forms the nexus linking the input of the entorhinal cortex to the output of CA1(Chevaleyre and Siegelbaum,2010).

Background:The possibility of assessing meat quality traits over the meat chain is strongly limited,especially in the context of selective breeding which requires a large number of *** main objective of this study was to investigate the suitability of portable infrared spectrometers for phenotyping beef cattle aiming to genetically improving the quality of their *** quality traits(pH,color,water holding capacity,tenderness)were appraised on rib eye muscle samples of 1,327 Piemontese young bulls using traditional(i.e.,reference/gold standard)laboratory analyses;the same traits were also predicted from spectra acquired at the abattoir on the intact muscle surface of the same animals 1 d after *** parameters were estimated for both laboratory measures of meat quality traits and their spectra-based ***:The prediction performances of the calibration equations,assessed through external validation,were satisfactory for color traits(R^(2) from 0.52 to 0.80),low for pH and purge losses(R^(2) around 0.30),and very poor for cooking losses and tenderness(R^(2) below 0.20).Except for lightness and purge losses,the heritability estimates of most of the predicted traits were lower than those of the measured traits while the genetic correlations between measured and predicted traits were high(average value 0.81).Conclusions:Results showed that NIRS predictions of color traits,pH,and purge losses could be used as indicator traits for the indirect genetic selection of the reference quality *** for cooking losses were less effective,while the NIR predictions of tenderness were affected by a relatively high uncertainty of ***,genetic selection of some meat quality traits,whose direct phenotyping is difficult,can benefit of the application of infrared spectrometers technology.

This paper explores the asymmetric effect of COVID-19 pandemic news,as measured by the coronavirus indices(Panic,Hype,Fake News,Sentiment,Infodemic,and Media Coverage),on the cryptocurrency *** daily data from January 2020 to September 2021 and the exponential generalized autoregressive conditional heter-oskedasticity model,the results revealed that both adverse and optimistic news had the same effect on Bitcoin returns,indicating fear of missing out behavior does not ***,when the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag model is esti-mated,both positive and negative shocks in pandemic indices promote Bitcoin’s daily changes;thus,Bitcoin is resistant to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic crisis and may serve as a hedge during market *** analysis of frequency domain causality supports a unidirectional causality running from the Coronavirus Fake News Index and Sentiment Index to Bitcoin returns,whereas daily fluctuations in the Bitcoin price Granger affect the Coronavirus Panic Index and the Hype *** findings may have significant policy implications for investors and governments because they highlight the impor-tance of news during turbulent *** empirical results indicate that pandemic news could significantly influence Bitcoin’s price.

This paper presents assessments of the fragmentation of the temperate and tropical forests in Mexico at the national level for two dates 1993 and *** study was based on land use and vegetation cover data sets scale 1：250,*** broad forest types（Temperate Forests and Tropical Forests） and five more specific forest types（Broadleaf Forests,and Coniferous Forests;Tropical Dry Deciduous Forests,Tropical Sub-evergreen Forests,and Tropical Evergreen Forests） were defined to conduct the *** 3.3 was used to estimate nine metrics of the spatial pattern of the forests for each forest type and date *** results indicate that the land cover transitions that have occurred between 1993 and 2002 have resulted in more isolated forest patches with simpler shapes in both the Temperate and Tropical *** remaining Tropical Forest patches have become smaller and more *** contrast,the remaining Temperate Forest patches are fewer and on average *** the more specific forest types defined in this study,the Broadleaf Forests have the highest indicators of *** these forests are usually embedded or adjacent to Coniferous *** more concern for conservation purposes are the high values of fragmentation metrics found for the Tropical Evergreen Forests and Tropical Dry Deciduous Forests,because these forest types are usually surrounded by non-forest land covers or anthropogenic land uses.

AIM:To provide a comprehensive and more representative national data on the disease,especially on treatment options and outcomes,and to determine access of retinoblastoma patients from Luzon,Visayas and Mindanao to eye care,and determine if access is associated with delay in consultation,staging and ***:Cohort study of retinoblastoma patients seen in eleven institutions located in the three major areas of the Philippines namely Luzon,Vizayas and Mindanao from ***:Totally 636 patients,involving 821 eyes,were ***(57%)were from Luzon and were seen in institutions in Luzon(72%).Annually,58±10 new cases were seen with 71%having unilateral *** delay of consultation remained long at 9(3,17)mo,longest in patients with unilateral disease(P<0.02)and those from the Visayas(P<0.003).Based on the International Retinoblastoma Staging System,only 35%of patients had Stage 1 while 47%already had extraocular *** was the most common treatment received by 484 patients while intravenous chemotherapy was received by *** were 250(39%)patients alive,195(31%)dead,85(13%)abandoned,17(3%)refused and 89(14%)with no ***:This study presents the largest cohort of retinoblastoma patients in the Philippines in terms of patients’and participating institutions’number and geographical location and type of institution(private and public).It also presents more comprehensive data on the treatments used and outcomes(survival,globe salvage,and vision retention rates).Delay in consultation was still long among patients leading to advanced disease stage and lower survival *** increasing capacity to diagnose and manage retinoblastoma in the country,the delay of consultation remains long primarily due to accessibility issues to eye care institutions especially in the Visayas and financial *** delay was still significant that overall survival rate remain low.

Peroxisome proliferator activated receptors： In the early 1990s, seminal work on rodent liver demonstrated that the hypolipidemic effect of xenobiotics, referred to as peroxisome proliferators, was mediated by a member of steroid hormone receptor superfamily, thus designated peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors （PPARs）（Issemann and Green, 1990; Dreyer et al., 1992）. The research field opened by this discovery led to the identification of three isotypes, namely PPARa （NR1C1）, PPAR[3/6 （NRIC2）, PPARy （NRIC3）, in a wide range of tissues. All these receptors act as ligand-activated transcription factors, binding lipid molecules with different, though overlapping, specificity.
