Influence of Deposition Temperature and Pressure on Microstructure and Tribological Properties of Arc Ion Plated Ag Films

The films deposited at low temperature（LT-films） have increasingly attracted theoretical and technical interests since such films exhibit obvious difference in structure and performances compared to those deposited at room *** on the tribological properties of LT-films are rarely reported in available *** this paper,the structure,morphology and tribological properties of Ag films,deposited at LT（166 K） under various Ar pressures on AISI 440C steel substrates by arc ion plating（AIP）,are studied by X-ray diffraction（XRD）,atomic force microscopy（AFM） and a vacuum ball-on-disk tribometer,and compared with the Ag films deposited at RT（300 K）.XRD results show that（200） preferred orientation of the films is promoted at LT and low Ar *** Crystallite sizes are 70 nm-80 nm for LT-Ag films deposited at 0.2 Pa and 0.8 Pa and larger than 100 nm for LT-Ag films deposited at 0.4 Pa and 0.6 Pa,while they are 55 nm-60 nm for RT-Ag films deposited at 0.2 Pa-0.6 Pa and 37 nm for RT-Ag films deposited at 0.8 *** surfaces of LT-Ag films are fibre-like at 0.6 Pa and 0.8 Pa,terrace-like at 0.4 Pa,and sphere-like at 0.2 Pa,while the surfaces of RT-Ag films are composed of sphere-like grains separated by *** tests reveal that,due to the compact microstructure LT-Ag films have better wear resistances than RT-Ag *** results indicate that the microstructure and wear resistance of Ag films deposited by AIP can be improved by low temperature deposition.

We report on the development of a“two-field-scan”harmonic Hall voltage(HHV)analysis,which collects the second HHVas a function of a swept in-plane magnetic field at 45°and 0°relative to the excitation current,for the determination of the spin-orbit torques of transverse spins in magnetic heterostructures without significant perpendicular spins,longitudinal spins,and longitudinal/perpendicular Oersted *** demonstrate that this two-field-scan analysis is as accurate as the well-established but time-consuming angle-scan HHV analysis even in the presence of considerable thermoelectric effects but takes more than a factor of 7 less measurement *** also show that the fit of the HHV data from a single field scan at 0°,which is commonly employed in the literature,is not reliable because the employment of too many free parameters in the fitting of the very slowly varying HHV signal allows erroneous conclusion about the spin-orbit torque efficiencies.

Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction(DMI)is the key ingredient of chiral spintronic phenomena and the emerging technologies based on such phenomena.A nonzero DMI usually occurs at magnetic interfaces or within non-centrosymmetric single ***,we report the observation of a strong unexpected DMI within a centrosymmetric polycrystalline ferromagnet that has neither a crystal inversion symmetry breaking nor a composition *** DMI is a bulk effect,increases with the thickness of the magnetic layer,and is insensitive to the symmetry of the interfaces or the neighboring *** observe a total DMI strength that is a factor of>2 greater than the highest interfacial DMI in the *** DMI most likely arises from the strong spin-orbit coupling,strong orbital hybrization,and a“hidden”long-range asymmetry in the *** discovery of the strong unconventional bulk DMI in centrosymmetric,composition-uniform magnetic single layers provides fundamental building blocks for the emerging field of spintronics and will stimulate the exploitation of unconventional spin-orbit phenomena in a wide range of materials.

Fiber-optic distributed strain sensing(FO-DSS)has been successful in monitoring strain changes along horizontal wellbores in hydraulically fractured ***,the mechanism driving the various FO-DSS responses associated with near-wellbore hydraulic fracture properties is still *** address this knowledge gap,we use coupled wellbore-reservoir-geomechanics simulations to study measured strain-change behavior and infer hydraulic fracture *** crossflow among fractures is captured through explicit modeling of the transient wellbore *** addition,local grid refinement is applied to accurately capture strain changes along the fiber.A Base Case model was designed with four fractures of varying properties,simulating strain change signals when the production well is shut-in for 10 d after 240 d of production and reopened for 2 ***-pressure plots for different fracture clusters were used to gain insights into inferring fracture properties using DSS *** comparing the model with and without the wellbore,distinct strain change signals were observed,emphasizing the importance of incorporating the wellbore in FO-DSS *** effects of fracture spacing and matrix permeability on strain change signals were thoroughly *** results of our numerical study can improve the understanding of the relation between DSS signals and fracture hydraulic properties,thus maximizing the value of the dataset for fracture diagnostics and characterization.

Because DC conductivities of oil-paper materials can be easily affected by electric field and temperature,the electrical properties under electro-thermal coupling of oil-paper materials should be considered when optimising the insulation structure of valve-side winding of the converter *** on the finite element multi-physical field coupling simulation,the multi-objective optimisation of main insulation structure of valve-side winding is carried *** view of the high time consuming of multi-physical field calculation and the actual needs of an insulation structure optimisation,the Kriging method and technique for order preference by similarity to the ideal solution(TOPSIS)method are introduced,and combines them with NSGA-II to obtain a joint algorithm that can be used for the optimisation of insulation structure of the converter *** using the joint algorithm of multi-objective optimisation,the insulation structure configuration scheme of valve-side winding is *** can be seen from the experiment result that,on the one hand,the joint algorithm adopted can obtain the insulation structure configuration scheme that meets the design *** the other hand,when facing the configuration scheme optimisation under multi-field coupling,the computational time required by this method is only 0.15%of that required by original genetic algorithm.

In order to understand the dynamics of granular flow on an erodible base soil,in this paper,a series of material point method-based granular column collapse tests were conducted to investigate numerically the mobility and dynamic erosion process of granular flow subjected to the complex settings,i.e.,the aspect ratio,granular mass,friction and dilatancy resistance,gravity and presence of water.A set of power scaling laws were proposed to describe the final deposit characteristics of granular flow by the relations of the normalized run-out distance and the normalized final height of granular flow against the aspect ratio,being greatly affected by the complex geological settings,e.g.,granular mass,the friction and dilatancy resistance of granular soil,and presence of water in granular *** index of the coefficient of friction of granular soil was defined as a ratio of the target coefficient of friction over the initial coefficient of friction to quantify the scaling extent of friction change(i.e.,friction strengthening or weakening).There is a characteristic aspect ratio of granular column corresponding to the maximum mobility of granular flow with the minimum index of the apparent coefficient of *** index of the repose coefficient of friction of granular flow decreased gradually with the increase in aspect ratio because higher potential energy of granular column at a larger aspect ratio causes a larger kinetic energy of granular soil to weaken the friction of granular soil as a kind of velocity-related friction *** increase in granular mass reduces gradually the indexes of the apparent and repose coefficients of friction of granular soil to enhance the mobility of granular *** mobility of granular flow increases gradually with the decrease in friction angle or increase in dilatancy angle of granular ***,the increase of gravity accelerates granular flow but showing the same final deposit profile without any dependence on ***

We propose and analyze a single-interval Legendre-Gauss-Radau(LGR)spectral collocation method for nonlinear second-order initial value problems of ordinary differential *** design an efficient iterative algorithm and prove spectral convergence for the single-interval LGR collocation *** more effective implementation,we propose a multi-interval LGR spectral collocation scheme,which provides us great flexibility with respect to the local time steps and local approximation ***,we combine the multi-interval LGR collocation method in time with the Legendre-Gauss-Lobatto collocation method in space to obtain a space-time spectral collocation approximation for nonlinear second-order evolution *** results show that the proposed methods have high accuracy and excellent long-time *** comparison between our methods and several commonly used methods are also provided.

Capacitor Voltage Imbalance Mechanism and Balancing Control of MMC When Riding Through PTG Fault

Modular multilevel converter (MMC) based fault ride through (FRT) control is a promising solution to deal with the pole-to-ground (PTG) fault in high voltage direct current (HVDC) system. However, when MMC switches to the FRT control, capacitor voltage imbalance between upper and lower arms will occur, resulting in the deterioration of FRT performance. This letter provides a comprehensive analysis for the imbalance issue from the perspective of fundamental frequency circulating current (FFCC). It is found the imbalance during FRT stage will not expand continuously, but converge to a certain value gradually. The specific imbalance degree is closely associated with the amplitude of FFCC. In order to solve the imbalance issue, an open-loop balancing control is proposed. By introducing a fundamental frequency feedforward item to the inherent circulating current control, the proposed method can not only balance the capacitor voltages, but also minimize the amplitude of FFCC, and consequently the power loss of MMC during FRT process can be reduced. Finally, simulation results of PSCAD/ EMTDC verify the validity of theoretical analysis.
