Immunotherapy is a promising approach for preventing postoperative tumor recurrence and metastasis. However, inflammatory neutrophils, recruited to the postoperative tumor site, have been shown to exacerbate tumor regeneration and limit the efficacy of cancer vaccines. Consequently, addressing postoperative immunosuppression caused by neutrophils is crucial for improving treatment outcomes. This study presents a combined chemoimmunotherapeutic strategy that employs a biocompatible macroporous scaffold-based cancer vaccine (S-CV) and a sialic acid (SA)-modified, doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded liposomal platform (DOX@SAL). The S-CV contains whole tumor lysates as antigens and imiquimod (R837, Toll-like receptor 7 activator)-loaded PLGA nanoparticles as immune adjuvants for cancer, which enhance dendritic cell activation and cytotoxic T cell proliferation upon localized implantation. When administered intravenously, DOX@SAL specifically targets and delivers drugs to activated neutrophils in vivo, mitigating neutrophil infiltration and suppressing postoperative inflammatory responses. In vivo and vitro experiments have demonstrated that S-CV plus DOX@SAL, a combined chemo-immunotherapeutic strategy, has a remarkable potential to inhibit postoperative local tumor recurrence and distant tumor progression, with minimal systemic toxicity, providing a new concept for postoperative treatment of tumors.

Diabetic mellitus(DM) is a common degenerative chronic metabolic disease often accompanied by severe cardiovascular complications(DCCs) as major causes of death in diabetic patients with diabetic cardiomyopathy(DCM) as the most common DCC. The metabolic disturbance in DCM generates the conditions/substrates and inducers/triggers and activates the signaling molecules and death executioners leading to cardiomyocyte death which accelerates the development of DCM and the degeneration of DCM to heart failure.Various forms of programmed active cell death including apoptosis, pyroptosis, autophagic cell death, autosis,necroptosis, ferroptosis and entosis have been identified and characterized in many types of cardiac disease.Evidence has also been obtained for the presence of multiple forms of cell death in DCM. Most importantly,published animal experiments have demonstrated that suppression of cardiomyocyte death of any forms yields tremendous protective effects on DCM. Herein, we provide the most updated data on the subject of cell death in DCM, critical analysis of published results focusing on the pathophysiological roles of cell death, and pertinent perspectives of future studies.

Rare earth elements(REEs)as nonessential trace elements are enriched in living organisms and threaten their health.To early detect and reduce REE enrichment in living organisms,scientists are focused on clarifying the enrichment process of REEs in living organisms and its risks.However,the enrichment process of REEs in edible plant cells has remained unclear.Herein,by using interdisciplinary methods and techniques,the enrichment process of lanthanum(La(Ⅲ))in the leaf cells of lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.)was investigated.(1)When La(Ⅲ)exposure dose is 0.5-5μmol/L,La(Ⅲ)is enriched outside the plasma membrane(PM).In this zone,La(Ⅲ)is bound to vitronectin-like protein(VN)to form La-VN complexes;(2)When La(Ⅲ)exposure dose is 5-20μmol/L,besides the zone outside the PM,La(Ⅲ)is also enriched on the PM and bound to arabinogalactan proteins(AGPs)to form La-AGPs complexes;(3)When La(Ⅲ)exposure dose is 20-140μmol/L,besides the zone outside and on the PM,La(Ⅲ)is enriched inside the PM;(4)When La(Ⅲ)exposure dose is 60-140μmol/L,malondialdehyde content(an important indicator of invisible damage)significantly increases.Thus,as La(Ⅲ)exposure dose increases,La(Ⅲ)gradually migrates from outside the PM to the PM and inside the PM,enriching in these zones in turn.The enriched La(Ⅲ)will cause invisible damage to lettuce leaf cells and even enter human bodies along food chains.These results provide references for investigating the enrichment process of REEs in plants and its environmental risks,and finding strategies to early detect and reduce REE enrichment in plants.

Using the discrete element method to investigate the behavior of particles is a crucial strategy in the research and development of novel equipment.Green pepper(Zanthoxylum armatum)is a globally renewable plant-derived medicinal and food homologous commodity with a wide range of uses and great demand,but the mechanical properties needed to develop its processing equipment are scarce.Thus,this case study aimed to systematically explore the necessary input parameters to model green pepper,and to provide new insights for the guidance of future industrial applications worldwide.On the basis of the experimental measured physical properties,the contact properties of green pepper on zinc-coated steel were first calibrated and then used to determine the contact properties between particles.The differences between the experimental and simulation results were analyzed for selection and verification of the contact properties accurately.Difference analysis confirmed that the co-efficient of restitution,coefficient of static friction and coefficient of rolling friction for contact between the particle and zinc-coated steel have values of 0.392,0.650,and 0.168,and those coefficients for particle-to-particle contact have values of 0.199,0.710,and 0.184,respectively.Discoveries in this work may contribute to the research and development of production equipment for green pepper.

Alkenes are ubiquitous,and the difunctionalization of alkenes represents one of the most practical approaches for the construction of value-added compounds.Dicarbonylation of alkenes provides direct access to value-added 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds.However,selectivity control for unsymmetric 1,2-dicarbonylation is of great challenge.We herein describe NHCs and photocatalysis co-catalyzed three-component radical 1,2-dicarbonylation of alkenes by distinguishing two carbonyl groups,providing structurally diversified 1,4-diketones.Distinct properties of acyl radical and NHCs-stabilized ketyl radical contributed to selectivity control.Acyl radicals are rapidly added to alkenes delivering alkyl radicals,which undergo subsequent radicalradical cross-coupling with NHCs-stabilized ketyl-type radicals,affording 1,2-dicarbonylation products.This transformation features mild reaction conditions,broad substrate scope,and excellent selectivity,providing a general and practical approach for the dicarbonylation of olefins.

ncFO:A Comprehensive Resource of Curated and Predicted ncRNAs Associated with Ferroptosis

Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death driven by the accumulation of lipid hydroperoxides.Regulation of ferroptosis might be beneficial to cancer treatment.Non-coding RNAs(ncRNAs)are a class of RNA transcripts that generally cannot encode proteins and have been demonstrated to play critical roles in regulating ferroptosis.Herein,we developed ncFO,the ncRNA-ferroptosis association database,to document the manually curated and predicted ncRNAs that are associated with ferroptosis.Collectively,ncFO contains 90 experimentally verified entries,including 46 microRNAs(miRNAs),21 long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs),and 17 circular RNAs(circRNAs).In addition,ncFO also incorporates two online prediction tools based on the regulation and co-expression of ncRNA and ferroptosis genes.Using default parameters,we obtained 3260 predicted entries,including 598 miRNAs and 178 lncRNAs,by regulation,as well as 2,592,661 predicted entries,including 967 miRNAs and 9632 lncRNAs,by ncRNA-ferroptosis gene co-expression in more than 8000 samples across 20 cancer types.The detailed information of each entry includes ncRNA name,disease,species,tissue,target,regulation,publication time,and PubMed identifier.ncFO also provides survival analysis and differential expression analysis for ncRNAs.In summary,ncFO offers a user-friendly platform to search and predict ferroptosisassociated ncRNAs,which might facilitate research on ferroptosis and discover potential targets for cancer treatment.

The uncertainty distribution can more effectively express the uncertainty of decision makers' judgments during a pairwise comparison of any alternatives. This paper investigates the priority models of group intuitionistic fuzzy preference relations with normal uncertainty distribution. The mathematical equivalence between the membership, non-membership degree interval fuzzy preference relation and the intuitionistic fuzzy preference relation is constructed, showing that there exists an inverse relationship between the priority of alternatives using these two types of interval preference relations. The new optimal models regarded the event that the deviation between the ideal judgement meeting the multiplicative consistency and the actual judgement obeying normal uncertainty distribution shall not exceed a threshold value under the given belief degree as a constraint, and regarded the minimum sum of all the threshold values as the objective function. The chance constraint was introduced to measure the degree to which multiplicative consistency can be realized under different belief degrees. The priority model provides a new method for simulating uncertainty and fuzziness in the real-world decision making environment.

Characterization of arsenate transformation and identification of arsenate reductase in a green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii

Arsenic （As） is a pervasive and ubiquitous environmental toxin that has created catastrophic human health problems world-wide. Chlamydomonas reinhardtii is a unicellular green alga, which exists ubiquitously in freshwater aquatic systems. Arsenic metabolism processes of this alga through arsenate reduction and sequent store and efflux were investigated. When supplied with 10 μmol/L arsenate, arsenic speciation analysis showed that arsenite concentration increased from 5.7 to 15.7 mg/kg dry weight during a 7-day period, accounting for 18%–24% of the total As in alga. When treated with different levels of arsenate （10, 20, 30, 40, 50 μmol/L） for 7 days, the arsenite concentration increased with increasing external arsenate concentrations, the proportion of arsenite was up to 23%–28% of the total As in alga. In efflux experiments, both arsenate and arsenite could be found in the efflux solutions. Additionally, the efflux of arsenate was more than that of arsenite. Furthermore, two arsenate reductase genes of C. reinhardtii （CrACR2s） were cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli strain WC3110 （？arsC） for the first time. The abilities of both CrACR2s genes to complement the arsenate- sensitive strain were examined. CrACR2.1 restored arsenate resistance at 0.8 mmol/L. However, CrACR2.2 showed much less ability to complement. The gene products were demonstrated to reduce arsenate to arsenite in vivo. In agreement with the complementation results, CrACR2.1 showed higher reduction ability than CrACR2.2, when treated with 0.4 mmol/L arsenate for 16 hr incubation.

Since launching in 2008,Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences(JIOHS)has been published for 15 years umtil 2022.Supported by the founding advisor Prof.Britton Chance and other founding Editorial Members,JIOHS was quickly embraced by the biomedical optics community,especially in Asia.Authors submitted some of their high quality papers to JIOHS,which led to a constant Impact Factor(IF)increase frcom the first IF 0.632 to IF 2396(Journal Citation Report 2021).
