Insights into in-situ imbibition behavior of fracturing fluid in propped shale fractures based on nuclear magnetic resonance:A case study from Longmaxi Formation shale,Sichuan Basin,China

Shale gas is an important component of unconventional oil and gas *** the imbibition behavior is helpful to optimize flowback parameters and enhance gas *** imbibition studies have focused on shale matrix,and the pressure conditions discussed were mostly *** initial imbibition behavior begins from propped fractures to matrix,but there are few studies working on explaining the imbibition behavior in propped fractures or the phenomenon of many shale wells exhibit higher productivity after a“soaking”***,propped fracture samples were designed for imbibition and migration *** order to accurately study the mechanism and main influencing factors of fracturing fluid imbibition and migration in propped and unpropped shale fractures under high temperature and high pressure,a series of experiments based on nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)were carried *** showed that NMR T_(2) spectra of all samples exhibited a bimodal *** final imbibition volume of fracturing fluid was positively related to pressure and fracture *** imbibition effect of fracturing fluid was more evident in matrix pores under high *** the migration during soaking stage,the fracturing fluid gradually migrated from large pores to small pores and gradually displaced the shale gas from the matrix,thus allowing the water blocking in propped fractures to self-unlock to some *** permeability decreased in the imbibition stage,while it recovered in the migration stage to some extent.

Inter-layer interference for multi-layered tight gas reservoir in the absence and presence of movable water

Due to the dissimilarity among different producing layers,the influences of inter-layer interference on the production performance of a multi-layer gas reservoir are ***,systematic studies of inter-layer interference for tight gas reservoirs are really limited,especially for those reservoirs in the presence of *** this work,five types of possible inter-layer interferences,including both absence and presence of water,are identified for commingled production of tight gas ***,a series of reservoir-scale and pore-scale numerical simulations are conducted to quantify the degree of influence of each type of *** field evidence from the Yan'an tight gas reservoir(Ordos Basin,China)is found to support the simulation ***,suggestions are proposed to mitigate the potential inter-layer *** results indicate that,in the absence of water,commingled production is favorable in two situations:when there is a difference in physical properties and when there is a difference in the pressure system of each *** reservoirs with a multi-pressure system,the backflow phenomenon,which significantly influences the production performance,only occurs under extreme conditions(such as very low production rates or well shut-in periods).When water is introduced into the multi-layer system,inter-layer interference becomes nearly *** both the gas-rich layer and water-rich layer for commingled production is not desirable,as it can trigger water invasion from the water-rich layer into the gas-rich *** gas-rich layer might also be interfered with by water from the neighboring unperforated water-rich layer,where the water might break the barrier(eg weak joint surface,cement in fractures)between the two layers and migrate into the gas-rich ***,the gas-rich layer could possibly be interfered with by water that accumulates at the bottom of the wellbore due to gravitational diff

Pressure dynamics of asymmetrically fractured wells in an arbitrarily shaped reservoir

A numerical model is established and with the model, the boundary element method and the coupled boundary/finite element method are used to analyze the pressure dynamics of an asymmetrically fractured well in an arbitrarily shaped reservoir. The equation is solved in the Laplace domain, with different flow regimes with or without considerations of the wellbore storage and skin effects. The parameter sensitivity analyses, including the asymmetry factor, the fracture conductivity, the outer boundary shape, the boundary size and the well location, are conducted. The model is validated by comparing the results with those of analytical solutions of two simplified cases and a field case study. The study can be used for the well testing interpretation and the hydraulic fracturing design.

Productivity analysis of a fractured horizontal well in a shale gas reservoir based on discrete fracture network model

The treatment of horizontal wells with massive hydraulic fracturing technology is important for the economical development of shale gas reservoirs, but sometimes is complex because of the induced fractures during the fracturing process. The studies of the fluid flow characteristics in such formations are rare. In this study, a numerical method based on a finite element method (FEM) is developed for the productivity analysis of a horizontal well in a shale gas reservoir with complex fractures. The proposed method takes into account the adsorbed gas and the complex hydraulic fracture branches. To make the problem more tractable, the dimension of the fracture system is reduced from 2-D to 1-D based on the discrete fracture network (DFN) model. The accuracy of the new method is verified by comparing its results with those obtained by the Saphir commercial software. Finally, the productivity of the fractured horizontal wells in shale gas reservoirs with complex fractures systems is evaluated and analyzed. Results show that if a well is produced with a constant bottomhole pressure, the well productivity is much increased due to the existence of fracture branches that can increase the stimulated reservoir volume (SRV). In addition, the number of hydraulic fractures (Nf) and the fracture halMengths (Lf) have an important influence on the well's productivity. The larger the values of Nf,Lf,the greater the well productivity will be. The existence of adsorbed gas can markedly improve the well productivity, and the greater the Langmuir volume, the greater the productivity will be. The conclusions drawn by this study can provide a guidance for the development of unconventional shale gas reservoirs.

Prediction of the viscosity of natural gas at high temperature and high pressure using free-volume theory and entropy scaling

Eighteen models based on two equations of state(EoS),three viscosity models,and four mixing rules were constructed to predict the viscosities of natural gases at high temperature and high pressure(HTHP)*** pure substances,the parameters of free volume(FV)and entropy scaling(ES)models were found to scale with molecular weight,which indicates that the ordered behavior of parameters of Peng-Robinson(PR)and Perturbed-Chain Statistical Associating Fluid Theory(PC-SAFT)propagates to the behavior of parameters of viscosity *** the viscosities of natural gases showed that the FV and ES models respectively combined with MIX4 and MIX2 mixing rules produced the best ***,the FV models were more accurate for predicting the viscosities of natural gases than ES models at HTHP conditions,while the ES models were superior to PRFT *** average absolute relative deviations of the best accurate three models,i.e.,PC-SAFT-FV-MIX4,tPR-FVMIX4,and PC-SAFT-ES-MIX2,were 5.66%,6.27%,and 6.50%,respectively,which was available for industrial *** with the existing industrial models(corresponding states theory and LBC),the proposed three models were more accurate for modeling the viscosity of natural gas,including gas condensate.

Al doped ZnO(AZO)films were deposited on glass,polyethylene naphthalate(PEN)and polyethylene terephthalate(PET) at room temperature by radio frequency magnetron *** structural,surface morphology,electrical and optical properties of the AZO films were characterized by X-ray diffractometry(XRD),atomic force microscopy(AFM),Hall effect measurement and ultraviolet-visible spectrometer,*** films exhibit highly c-axis preferred orientation,and AZO film on glass exhibits compressive stress while that on plastic substrates presents tensile *** electrical property of the AZO film on glass is the best among the films on three kinds of *** value of the figure of merit for the AZO film on PEN is much better than that of the AZO film on PET and is close to that of AZO on glass in the wavelength range of 500-900 nm.

Revealing the Regulation Effect of Surface Charge at Aromatic Interface to Dynamic Conformational Changes of α-Synuclein at Early Aggregation Stage

The aggregation ofα-synuclein(α-syn)is strongly influenced by membrane interfaces,but the mechanism of transition from monomers to oligomers at early aggregation stage is not ***,we investigate the adsorption and structure changes ofα-syn on oppositely charged aromatic interfaces through in-situ surface-enhanced infrared absorption(SEIRA)spectroscopy and nano-IR *** results show that the synergy of electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions leads to a“fast-slow”two-step aggregation pathway on negatively charged *** adsorption induces the formation of an extended helix structure and subsequently partial helix unwinding in NAC region,which enables the hydrophobic stacking between nearby NAC *** antiparallel β-sheet rich aggregates are gradually emerging as further interactions of monomers with the fast formed“first layer”.Monomers electrostatically adsorb on positively charged interface by C-terminus with NAC region and N-terminus stretched in solvent,which serve as an aggregation core and induce further adsorption and gradual formation of aggregates with C-terminus *** results demonstrate the modulation of surface charge and synergy of electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions on the interaction modes and aggregation pathways,which provide insights into dynamic conformation changes ofα-syn at early aggregation stage and imply the important role of spatial-temporal heterogeneity of membranes inα-synucleinopathies.

Numerical simulation study on the hygrothermal performance of building exterior walls under dynamic wind-driven rain condition

Wind-driven rain(WDR)has a significant influence on the hygrothermal performance,durability,and energy consumption of building *** calculation of WDR loads using semi-empirical models has been incorporated into the boundary conditions of coupled heat and moisture transfer ***,prior research often relied on fixed WDR absorption ratio,which fail to accurately capture the water absorption characteristics of porous building materials under rainfall ***,this study aims to investigate the coupled heat and moisture transfer of exterior walls under dynamic WDR boundary conditions,utilizing an empirically obtained WDR absorption ratio model based on field *** developed coupled heat and moisture transfer model is validated against the HAMSTAD *** findings reveal that the total WDR flux calculated with the dynamic WDR boundary is lower than that obtained with the fixed WDR boundary,with greater disparities observed in orientations experiencing higher WDR *** variations in moisture flow significantly impact the surface temperature and relative humidity of the walls,influencing the calculation of cooling and heating loads by different *** to the transient heat transfer model,the coupled heat and moisture transfer model incorporating dynamic WDR boundary exhibits maximum increases of 17.6%and 16.2%in cooling and heating loads,*** dynamic WDR boundary conditions provide more precise numerical values for surface moisture flux,offering valuable insights for the thermal design of building enclosures and load calculations for HVAC systems.

Stabilization/solidification mechanisms of tin tailings and fuming slag-based geopolymers for different heavy metals

Tin mine tailings(TMT)and fuming slag(FS)contain many heavy metals(As,Cr,Cu,Zn and Mn)that cause severe pollution to the ***,geopolymers were prepared using TMT,FS and flue gas desulfurization gypsum(FGDG)to immobilize heavy metals,and their compressive strength and heavy metal leaching toxicity were *** was first determined that T4F5(TMT:FS=4:5)sample exhibited the highest compressive strength(7.83 MPa).T4F5 achieved 95%immobilization efficiency for As and Cr,and nearly 100%for Cu,Zn and Mn,showing good immobilization performance.A series of characterization analyses showed that heavy metal cations can balance the charge in the geopolymer and replace Al in the geopolymer structure to form covalent *** addition,about 2%–20%of heavy metal Fe was immobilized in hydration products,heavy metal hydroxides and non-bridging Si–O and Al–O coordination with silica-aluminate ***_(3)^(3−) was oxidized into AsO_(4)^(3−),which may form Ca–As or Fe–As ***_(2)O_(7)^(2−)was converted to CrO_(4)^(2−)under alkaline environment and then combined with OH−to form Cr(OH)3 ***^(2+)may react directly with dissolved silicate to form Mn_(2)SiO_(4) and also form Mn(OH)_(2) *** unstable Mn(OH)_(2) can be further oxidized to MnO_(2).The heavy metal cations were immobilized in the silicoaluminate lattice,while the anions tended to form insoluble *** results may benefit the industry and government for better handling of TMT,FS and solid wastes containing the abovementioned five heavy metals.

Geochronological and geochemical constraints on the petrogenesis and geodynamic process of Hemler,Vlinder,and Il'ichev seamount lavas in NW Pacific

Oceanic intraplate volcanoes with linear age progressions are usually accepted to be derived from melting of an upwelling mantle *** seamount groups in NW Pacific,however,show complex age-distance relationships that are difficult to explain using the classic“mantle plume hypothesis”,and thus their origins are *** this study,we present ^(40)Ar-^(39)Ar age,geochemical,and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopic data of lavas from Hemler,Vlinder,and Il’ichev seamounts in NW Pacific,to elucidate their petrogenesis and geodynamic *** lavas from Hemler,Vlinder,and Il’ichev seamounts are classified as alkali basalt,basanite/nephelinite,and *** with Mg O>8 wt.%exhibit high contents of CaO,FeO^(T),and TiO_(2),similar to the composition of melts formed from reaction between carbonated eclogite-derived melts and fertile *** lavas have elevated Zr/Hf ratios(40.6-45.2)and negative Zr and Hf anomalies,indicating the presence of a carbonate component in the mantle *** are enriched in incompatible trace elements and have enriched mantle 1(EM1)-like SrNd-Pb-Hf isotopic *** isotopic compositions of Vlinder,Il’ichev basanite,and Hemler lavas in this study are similar to the Rarotonga *** occurring at the same seamount,the Il’ichev alkali basalts display more depleted SrNd-Hf isotopic compositions compared to Il’ichev *** to plate tectonic reconstruction results,the ages of Hemler(100.1 Ma),Vlinder pre-(100.2 Ma)and post-shield(87.5 Ma),and Il’ichev(56.4 Ma)lavas clearly deviate from the Macdonald,Arago,Rarotonga,and Samoa hotspot tracks,indicating that they cannot directly originate from mantle *** propose that in the mid-Cretaceous,when the Pacific plate passed over Rarotonga hotspot,melting of Rarotonga plume formed the Vlinder(main-shield stage),Pako,and Ioah *** Rarotonga(and possibly Samoa)plume materials would have been dispersed into the surrounding asthenosphere by mantle conve
