Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignancies in China. To date, surgery is still the best solution to it. However, metastatic recurrences after curative hepatic resections are very common. Tang et al have reported that recurrence rate within 5 years of curative hepatic resection is 61.5% [1]. As curative hepatic resection has a high tendency for metastatic recurrence, therapeutic interventions such as transarterial embolization and antiangiogenesis have been tried to further improve prognosis of HCC patients. Therefore, establishing a dependable, sensitive, easy, and economical method to predict metastatic recurrence following curative hepatic resection is of clinical urgency.

AIM: To develop a prognostic gene set that can predict patient overall survival status based on the whole genome expression analysis. METHODS: Using Illumina HumanWG-6 BeadChip followed by semi-supervised analysis, we analyzed the expression of 47 296 transcripts in two batches of gastric cancer patients who underwent surgical resection. Thirty-nine samples in the first batch were used as the training set to discover candidate markers correlated to overall survival, and thirty-three samples in the second batch were used for validation. RESULTS: A panel of ten genes were identified as prognostic marker in the first batch samples and classified patients into a lowand a high-risk group with significantly different survival times (P = 0.000047). This prognostic marker was then verified in an independent validation sample batch (P = 0.0009). By comparing with the traditional Tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging system, this ten-gene prognostic marker showed consistent prognosis results. It was the only independent prognostic value by multivariate Cox regression analysis (P = 0.007). Interestingly, six of these ten genes are ribosomal proteins, suggesting a possible association between the deregulation of ribosome related gene expression and the poor prognosis. CONCLUSION: A ten-gene marker correlated with overall prognosis, including 6 ribosomal proteins, was identified and verified, which may complement the predictive value of TNM staging system.

The estuary wetland is the last barrier for inland pollutants flowing into the sea. The possibility to use the natural wetland, mainly reed marsh and Suaeda heteroptera community as land treatment system to polluted river water was studied. Experimental results indicated that the reed march has a high retention rate to pollutants like COD, N, P and oil. The canal system has high a purification rate to these elements as well. There is also a big potential to use the Suaeda community as a treatment system to exchange water from prawn and crab breeding ponds along the coast. As the pollution problem of coastal seawater has become more and more serious in Eastern China, and Liaohe is among the most seriously polluted 7 rivers in China, this study will greatly contribute to the strategy makers to take suitable reactions.

Over-expression of Metastasis-associated in Colon Cancer-1 (MACC1) Associates with Better Prognosis of Gastric Cancer Patients

Objective： The aim of this study was to detect metastasis-associated in colon cancer-1 （MACC1） expression in Chinese gastric cancer and analyze the relationship between MACC1 expression and postoperative survival. Methods： The expression of MACC1 and c-MET protein in a sample of 128 gastric cancer tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry. A retrospective cohort study on the prognosis was carried out and data were collected from medical records. Results： The positive rate of MACC1 protein expression in gastric cancer was 47.66%, higher than that in adjacent noncancerous mucosa （P0.001）. MACC1 protein expression was not related to the clinicopathological variables involved. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that the survival of MACC1 positive group tended to be better than that of MACC1 negative group, particularly in patients with stage III carcinoma （P=0.032）. Cox regression analysis revealed that MACC1 protein over-expression in gastric cancer tended to be a protective factor with hazard ratio of 0.621 （P=0.057）. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the positive rate of c-MET protein expression was much higher in cases with positive MACC1 expression in gastric cancer （P=0.002）, but P53 expression was not associated with MACC1 expression. Conclusion： MACC1 over-expression implies better survival and may be an independent prognostic factor for gastric cancer in Chinese patients.

Single-atom catalyst has garnered widespread attention to mimic mature enzymes due to its well-defined atomic structure and coordination environments. However, since the carbon–carbon（C–C） coupling reactions require synergistic catalysis of multiple sites, single-atom catalysts suffer from insufficient active sites and unclear reaction mechanisms. Controlling the reaction intermediates in a precisely targeted pocket through careful metal–organic cage design is therefore crucial. Here, we prepare a tetrahedral [Cu6L4]-type boron–imidazolate cage integrating highly active Cu sites and optimized cavity, which exhibits enzyme like specific catalytic performance in electrochemical CO2reduction reaction（CO2RR） to enhance the selectivity of *** analyses and computational calculations suggest that the single Cu site together with neighboring boron–imidazolate ligands provides suitably synergistic effects that enable the energetically favorable formation of an *COCHO intermediate, a key step determining selectivity. As a result, the [Cu6L4]-type cage of BIC-145 achieves a Faradaic efficiency of 28% for C2H4maintaining an average current density of -3.54 mA cm-2over a 5-hour electrolysis period. This work represents the first example for studying single-metal site catalysts with ultra-low coordination numbers through the rational design of metal–organic cages.

Constructing type II heterostructures represents a widely recognized strategy for enhancing charge separation and photocatalytic efficiency,but it remains challenging to fabricate homologous heterostructures based on visible-light-responsive semiconductors,especially for popularly investigated （oxy）nitrides with low thermal ***,we synthesized a homologous heterostructure （denoted as YTON＿H） based on the oxynitrides of YTaO4-xNyand YTa *** heterostructure exhibits type II band structure alignment and intimate interface achieved through a magnesium （Mg） powder-assisted nitridation *** with widely reported heterologous heterostructures,the as-obtained YTON＿H homologous heterostructure could similarly exhibit enhanced charge separation as well as photocatalytic water splitting performance with respect to its counterparts(YTaO4-xNyand YTaON2).Meanwhile,detailed structural characterizations and spectroscopy analysis have been made to confirm the formation of heterostructure and promotion of spatial charge separation.

It has been shown clinically that continuous removal of ischemia/reperfusion-induced reactive oxygen species is not conducive to the recovery of late ***,previous studies have shown that excessive increases in hypochlorous acid after stroke can cause severe damage to brain *** previous studies have found that a small amount of hypochlorous acid still exists in the later stage of stroke,but its specific role and mechanism are currently *** simulate stroke in vivo,a middle cerebral artery occlusion rat model was established,with an oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation model established in vitro to mimic *** found that in the early stage(within 24 hours)of ischemic stroke,neutrophils produced a large amount of hypochlorous acid,while in the recovery phase(10 days after stroke),microglia were activated and produced a small amount of hypochlorous ***,in acute stroke in rats,hypochlorous acid production was prevented using a hypochlorous acid scavenger,taurine,or myeloperoxidase inhibitor,4-aminobenzoic acid *** results showed that high levels of hypochlorous acid(200μM)induced neuronal apoptosis after oxygen/glucose deprivation/***,in the recovery phase of the middle cerebral artery occlusion model,a moderate level of hypochlorous acid promoted the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells into neurons and *** suggests that hypochlorous acid plays different roles at different phases of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** levels of hypochlorous acid(5 and 100μM)promoted nuclear translocation ofβ-*** transfection of single-site mutation plasmids,we found that hypochlorous acid induced chlorination of theβ-catenin tyrosine 30 residue,which promoted nuclear ***,our study indicates that maintaining low levels of hypochlorous acid plays a key role in the recovery of neurological function.

Post-transcriptional ribonucleic acid (RNA) modifications play crucial roles in regulating gene expression, with both eukaryotic and prokaryotic RNA exhibiting more than 170 distinct and ubiquitous modifications. RNA turnover generates numerous free nucleosides, including unmodified nucleosides and a variety of modified ones. Unlike unmodified nucleosides, modified nucleosides are not further degraded or used in the salvage-synthesis pathway owing to a lack of specific enzymes, which leads to the cytosolic accumulation or cellular efflux of modified nucleosides. These modified nucleosides can act as signaling molecules that regulate downstream pathways once transported to the extracellular space; alternatively, they are metabolized in the bloodstream and excreted in urine. Metabolized modified nucleosides are altered by cellular stress responses and mediate abnormal physiological states. Changes in the urinary and blood levels of modified nucleosides associated with cancer can serve as biomarkers for disease. Therefore, identifying and accurately quantifying nucleosides is vital for understanding RNA degradation and associated patterns of nucleoside metabolism. Such analyses are helpful when studying the biological functions and potential clinical applications of modified nucleosides. In this regard, high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) offers significant advantages in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, and efficiency, and has been widely used to analyze DNA and RNA nucleosides/nucleotides and their analogues. Multiple MS detection patterns and quantification methods have been established to detect nucleosides in biological samples, including cultured cells, urine, blood, and tissue samples. However, the development of an accurate HPLC-MS/MS method faces several challenges.
