Use of evergreen and deciduous plants by nocturnal-roosting birds:A case study in Beijing

With continually increasing urbanization,the land cover in urban areas continues to change,resulting in the loss of *** are highly sensitive to changes in *** forest birds perch on plants that provide increased safety to reduce the risk of predation,and small birds may also consider insulation when using roosting plants in winter because of cold *** plants thus shape the nocturnal roosting environment of urban birds,and proper planting is essential for the survival of birds at *** use of roosting plants by urban birds should therefore be studied to provide a reference for *** the current study,we observed 1865 nocturnal roosting birds in Beijing from 2021 to 2022,with 23 species of birds from 12 families and 45 species of plants from 22 families *** chinensis exhibited the highest bird rarity-weighted richness,followed by Fraxinus pennsylvanica,Phyllostachys propinqua,Pinus tabuliformis,and Ulmus *** diameter at breast height,tree height,and crown width of plants used by birds was largest in summer and smallest in winter,and the perch height of birds was the highest in spring and summer and the lowest in *** used the highest proportion of deciduous plants in summer and the highest proportion of evergreen plants in winter.A significant seasonal difference in the use of evergreen and deciduous plants by small birds was noted,with a preference for deciduous plants in summer and evergreen plants in winter,while this preference was not found in large *** findings indicate that evergreen plants provide a vital nocturnal roosting environment for small birds in *** provide a better nocturnal roosting habitat for urban birds,we recommend paying attention to the combination of evergreen and deciduous plants when carrying out landscape construction.

Efficacy of rhNGF-loaded amniotic membrane transplantation for rabbit corneal epithelial and nerve regeneration

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of recombinant human nerve growth factor-loaded amniotic membrane(rh NGF-AM)on corneal epithelial and nerve regeneration in rabbit ***:Freshly prepared human amniotic membrane(AM)were immersed into PBS buffer containing 100 or 500μg/mL rh NGF for 15,30,and 60 min at 4℃.The in vitro release kinetics of rh NGF was measured with *** in vivo evaluation,the AM were immersed with 500μg/mL rh NGF for 30 ***-seven rabbits were selected to establish corneal epithelial defect *** addition to the 19 rabbits in control group,38 rabbits received AM transplantation with or without rh NGF after the removal of central *** epithelial defect area,sub-epithelial nerve fiber density,corneal sensitivity,rh NGF contents in resident AM and corneas were measured after the ***:rh NGF was sustained release from the AM within 14 d in vitro,with the positive correlation with initial immersion *** immersion of AM in 500μg/mL rh NGF for 30 min achieved the most stable release within 14 *** transplantation in rabbit cornea,a high concentration of rh NGF in resident rh NGF-AM and cornea was maintained within 8 *** epithelial healing,nerve fiber regeneration and the recovery of corneal sensitivity were significantly accelerated after the rh NGF-AM transplantation when compared to simple AM transplantation(all Plial wound healing and nerve regeneration,as well as the recovery of corneal sensitivity in rabbit.

Effects of interstitial cluster mobility on dislocation loops evolution under irradiation of austenitic steel

The evolution of dislocation loops in austenitic steels irradiated with Fe^(+)is investigated using cluster dynamics(CD)simulations by developing a CD *** CD predictions are compared with experimental results in the *** number density and average diameter of the dislocation loops obtained from the CD simulations are in good agreement with the experimental data obtained from transmission electron microscopy(TEM)observations of Fe~+-irradiated Solution Annealed 304,Cold Worked 316,and HR3 austenitic steels in the *** CD simulation results demonstrate that the diffusion of in-cascade interstitial clusters plays a major role in the dislocation loop density and dislocation loop growth;in particular,for the HR3 austenitic steel,the CD model has verified the effect of temperature on the density and size of the dislocation loops.

Heteroatom tuning in agarose derived carbon aerogel for enhanced potassium ion multiple energy storage

The incorporation of heteroatoms into carbon aerogels(CAs)can lead to structural distortions and changes in active sites due to their smaller size and electronegativity compared to pure ***,the evolution of the electronic structure from single-atom doping to heteroatom codoping in CAs has not yet been thoroughly investigated,and the impact of codoping on potassium ion(K+)storage and diffusion pathways as electrode material remains *** this study,experimental and theoretical simulations were conducted to demonstrate that heteroatom codoping,composed of multiple heteroatoms(O/N/B)with different properties,has the potential to improve the electrical properties and stability of CAs compared to single-atom *** states near the Fermi level have revealed that doping with O/N/B generates a greater number of active centers on adjacent carbon atoms than doping with O and O/N *** a result of synergy with enhanced wetting ability(contact angle of 9.26°)derived from amino groups and hierarchical porous structure,ON-CA has the most optimized adsorption capacity(−1.62 eV)and diffusion barrier(0.12 eV)of K^(+).The optimal pathway of K^(+)in ON-CA is along the carbon ring with N or O *** K^(+)storage material for supercapacitors and ion batteries,it shows an outstanding specific capacity and capacitance,electrochemical stability,and rate ***,the assembled symmetrical K^(+)supercapacitor demonstrates an energy density of 51.8 Wh kg^(−1),an ultrahigh power density of 443Wkg^(−1),and outstanding cycling stability(maintaining 83.3%after 10,000 cycles in 1M KPF6 organic electrolyte).This research provides valuable insights into the design of highperformance potassium ion storage materials.

AIM： To compare the clinical characteristics of infectious keratopathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus（T2DM） and nondiabetes mellitus（NDM） and to investigate risk factors for infectious keratopathy in T2DM patients. METHODS： Totally 230 patients with T2DM and 168 with NDM diagnosed as infectious keratopathy were hospitalized at Qingdao Eye Hospital from 2001 to 2015. Data including sex, age, occupation, season, smoking and alcohol consumption habits, duration between onset and treatments, duration of hospitalization were collected. Initially identified indicators were analyzed with a multivariate logistic regression. Glycosylated hemoglobin A1 c（Hb A1 c） in patients with T2DM was analyzed. The infectious keratopathies in the two groups were categorized and ***： The diabetic group consisted of 146（63.5%） males and 84（36.5%） females. The NDM group consisted of 111（66.1%） males and 57（33.9%） females. There was no signigicantly difference in sex distribution between the two groups（P〉0.05）. There were significant differences in age, occupation of patients, season of the onset of diseases, duration between onset and treatment, and durations of hospitalization between the two groups（P〈0.05）. In most of the patients in the diabetic group, the duration between onsetand treatment was ≤3 mo, and most was ≥3 mo in the NDM group. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age and season were related to the development of corneal infection in the T2DM group（OR=1.709, 1.706）. In the T2DM group, Hb A1 c was 9.09%±2.12%. There were statistically significant differences in the incidences of bacterial keratitis and herpes simplex keratitis in the two groups（P〈0.05）, but no significant statistical difference was found between fungal keratitis and amoebic keratitis（P〉0.05）. CONCLUSION： Advanced age and the summer and winter seasons are identified as risk factors for infectious keratopathy in T2DM patients, and T2DM patients are more prone to bacterial keratitis.

Evolution of Cenozoic sedimentary architecture in Central and Southern South China Sea basins

The Central and Southern South China Sea(CSSCS) has a complex tectonic dynamic background and abundant oil and gas resources, which has always been a hot topic of academic and industrial ***, systematic analyses are still lacking regarding its sediment filling structure and evolution, mostly due to limited borehole penetration and poor quality of seismic reflection data for deeply buried sequences. No consensus has been reached yet on the sedimentary infilling processes, which impeded the reconstruction of the palaeogeography of Southeast Asia and the oil-and-gas exploration undertakings. Here, we illustrate the Cenozoic sedimentary evolution of the CSSCS region by synthesizing relevant data from previous literature and our own observations and displaying the evolution of depositional systems in sequential reconstructions. Besides, the controlling factors of preferred sedimentary scenarios in the CSSCS incorporate the latest interpretations of the spreading of South China Sea(SCS) as well as the demise of the hypothetical Proto-South China Sea(PSCS). The results show that there are three types of sedimentary basins in the CSSCS(foreland,strike-slip, and rift basins) with different sedimentary filling structures. The foreland basins formed a depositional pattern of ‘transition from deep water to shallow water environments', dominated by deep-water depositional systems which were formed before the Early Oligocene with submarine fans developed. Later,the foreland basins were gradually dominated by shallow-water depositional systems with deltas and shallow marine facies. The strike-slip basins showed the depositional architecture of ‘transition from lake to marine environments', i.e. the basins were dominated by lacustrine deposits during the Eocene and evolved into the marine depositional environment since Oligocene with delta developed in the western part of the basin. Midterm outcomes of penetrating keratoplasty following allogeneic cultivated limbal epithelial transplantation in patients with bilateral limbal stem cell deficiency

AIM:To evaluate the midterm outcomes of penetrating keratoplasty(PK)following allogeneic cultivated limbal epithelial transplantation(CLET)for bilateral total limbal stem cell deficiency(LSCD).METHODS:Ten patients(10 eyes)with bilateral LSCD were enrolled in this prospective noncomparative case series *** participant underwent PK approximately 6 mo after a *** tacrolimus,topical and systemic steroids,and oral ciclosporin were administered ***-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),intraocular pressure(IOP),ocular surface grading scores(OSS),corneal graft epithelial rehabilitation,persistent epithelial defect(PED),immunological rejection,and graft survival rate were ***:The time interval between PK and allogeneic CLET was 6.90±1.29(6-10)*** improved from 2.46±0.32 log MAR preoperatively to 0.77±0.55 log MAR post-PK(P<0.001).Kaplan-Meier analysis of mean graft survival revealed graft survival rates of 100%at 12 and 24 mo and 80.0%at 36 *** appeared in 5 eyes at different periods post-PK,and graft rejection occurred in 4 *** total OSS decreased from 12.4±4.4 before allogeneic CLET to 1.4±1.51 after ***:A sequential therapy design of PK following allogeneic CLET can maintain a stable ocular surface with improved BCVA despite the relatively high graft rejection rate.

Method for the fruit tree recognition and navigation in complex environment of an agricultural robot

To realize the visual navigation of agricultural robots in the complex environment of orchards,this study proposed a method for fruit tree recognition and navigation based on *** YOLOv5s model was selected and trained to identify the trunks of the left and right rows of fruit trees;the quadratic curve was fitted to the bottom center of the fruit tree recognition box,and the identified fruit trees were divided into left and right columns by using the extreme value point of the quadratic curve to obtain the left and right rows of fruit trees;the straight-line equation of the left and right fruit tree rows was further solved,the median line of the two straight lines was taken as the expected navigation path of the robot,and the path tracing navigation experiment was carried out by using the improved LQR control *** experimental results show that under the guidance of the machine vision system and guided by the improved LQR control algorithm,the lateral error and heading error can converge quickly to the desired navigation path in the four initial states of[0 m,−0.34 rad],[0.10 m,0.34 rad],[0.15 m,0 rad]and[0.20 m,−0.34 rad].When the initial speed was 0.5 m/s,the average lateral error was 0.059 m and the average heading error was 0.2787 rad for the navigation trials in the four different initial *** average driving was 5.3 m into the steady state,the average value of steady state lateral error was 0.0102 m,the average value of steady state heading error was 0.0253 rad,and the average relative error of the robot driving along the desired navigation path was 4.6%.The results indicate that the navigation algorithm proposed in this study has good robustness,meets the operational requirements of robot autonomous navigation in orchard environment,and improves the reliability of robot driving in orchard.
