Dexamethasone enhances invasiveness ofAspergillusfumigatus conidia and fibronectin expression in A549 cells

Background The efficacies of current treatments for invasive aspergillus （IA） are unsatisfactory and new therapeutic targets or regimens to treat IA are urgently needed. Previous studies have indicated that the ability of conidia to invade host cells is critical in IA development and fibronectin has a hand in the conidia adherence process. In the clinical setting, many patients who receive glucocorticoid for extended periods are susceptible to Aspergillus fumigatus （A. fumigatus） infection, for this reason we investigated the effect of glucocorticoid on conidia invasiveness by comparing the invasiveness of A. fumigatus conidia in the type II human alveolar cell line （A549） cultured with different concentrations of dexamethasone. We also explored the relationships between dexamethasone and fibronectin expression. Methods Following culture with anti-fibronectin antibodies and/or dexamethasone, type II human alveolar A549 cells were infected with conidia of A. fumigatus. After 4 hours, the extracellular free conidia were washed away and the remaining immobilized conidia were released using Triton-X 100 and quantified by counting the colony-forming units. The invasiveness of conidia was measured by calculating the invasion rate （%）. The transcription of the fibronectin gene in cells cultured with different concentrations of dexamethasone for 24 hours was tested by fluorogenic quantitative RT-PCR while the expression of fibronectinin cells cultured for 48 hours was tested by Western blotting and immunocytochemistry. Results A significant reduction in the invasiveness of conidia was seen in the cells cultured with anti-fibronectin antibody （（14.42±1.68）% vs. （19.17±2.53）%, P 〈0.05）, but no significant difference was observed in cells cultured with a combination of anti-fibronectin antibody and dexamethasone （6.37×10^-5 mol/L）. Synthesis of chiral phosphine derivatives through a copper（I）-catalyzed desymmetric SNAr reaction

Axially chiral phosphines are a class of extremely important ligands in asymmetric catalysis. Herein, an unprecedented copper（I）-catalyzed asymmetric SNAr reaction with HP（S）R2is uncovered, which delivers a series of axially chiral phosphine derivatives in high yields with excellent enantioselectivity. Furthermore, the diastereoselective reaction with the kinetic resolution of racemic HP（S）ArR proceeds smoothly, providing the products with moderate diastereoselectivity and excellent enantioselectivity. Control experiments indicate that HP（S）Ph2is much more active than HPPh2and HP（O）Ph2as the pronucleophile in the present reaction. It is found that the SNAr reaction （the first SNAr） proceeds in a desymmetric manner, providing the desired chiral products while a continued SNAr reaction （the second SNAr） slightly occurs in a kinetic resolution manner in the present catalytic system, which enhances the ee of the desired chiral products. DFTcalculations support a concerted reaction pathway rather than a step-wise mechanism. Finally, axially chiral olefin-phosphines produced by the present method work as suitable ligands in Pdcatalyzed asymmetric allylic substitution with C-, N-, and O-nucleophiles and Rh-catalyzed asymmetric addition of arylboronic acid to benzil.

SiOxanode has attracted more and more attention due to its rich reserves and high theoretical capacity. However,the disadvantages of low initial Coulombic efficiency and large volume change limit its application. Therefore in this review, the research progress of SiOxanode will be summarized in detailed to demonstrate the various strategies adopted by researchers. Systematically introduction of the progress on preparation methods and modification strategies would be discussed, and the merits and challenges of various approaches will be highlighted as well, which provides valuable insights into the rational design and development of techniques to deal with the promising practical application of SiOxanode.

Rotating Bardeen black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter as a particle accelerator

We study the event horizon of a rotating Bardeen black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter and the black hole as a particle *** black hole is represented by four parameters:mass M,rotation parameter a,dark matter parameterαand magnetic charge *** is interesting that when we determine the values of magnetic charge g and dark matter parametersαwe can get a critical rotation parameter aEand then we get a contour plane withΔ=0 taking three parameters as *** also derive the effective potential of the particle and the center-of-mass(CM)energy of the two particles outside the black hole by using the motion equations of the particle in the equatorial plane of the black *** find that the CM energy depends not only on the rotation parameter a,but also on the parameters g andα.We discuss the CM energy for two particles colliding at the black hole horizon in the extreme and non-extreme cases,*** is found that the CM energy can become arbitrarily high when the angular momentum of one of the two particles is the critical angular momentum under the background of extreme black holes and there is no such result for non-extreme black holes,because the particles do not reach the black hole horizon when the angular momentum of the particles is critical angular ***,we prove that the rotating Bardeen black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter can be used as a particle accelerator.

Thermal fluctuations,deflection angle,and greybody factor of a high-dimensional Schwarzschild black hole in scalar-tensor-vector gravity

In this study,we examined the thermal fluctuations,deflection angle,and greybody factor of a high-dimensional Schwarzschild black hole in scalar-tensor-vector gravity(STVG).We calculated some thermodynamic quantities related to the correction of the black hole entropy caused by thermal fluctuations and discussed the effect of the correction parameters on these *** analyzing the changes in the corrected specific heat,we found that thermal fluctuations made the small black hole more *** is worth noting that the STVG parameter did not affect the thermodynamic stability of this black ***,by utilizing the Gauss-Bonnet theorem,the deflection angle was obtained in the weak field limit,and the effects of the two parameters on the results were ***,we calculated the bounds on the greybody factor of a massless scalar *** observed that as the STVG parameter around the black hole increased,the weak deflection angle became larger,and more scalar particles can reach ***,the spacetime dimension has the opposite effect on the STVG parameter on the weak deflection angle and greybody factor.

Soft electrochemical actuators that can generate mechanical motions in response to electrical stimuli can be used as artificial muscles in microscale *** electrode materials are the key component of the electrochemical actuator because they limit the ion diffusion and accumulation processes and thus affect the deformation in fast response-time and potential engineering ***-dimensional materials,such as one-dimensional(1D)CNT and two-dimensional(2D)vertically stood WS_(2),are great electrode due to their good electrochemical stability and high surface-to-volume ratios,but show limited performances when being used on their own in the actuators because of low reconstruction or low conductivity.A combination of 1D CNT and 2D WS_(2)could form a heterojunction with both high electrochemical activity and great mechanical ***,by depositing highly disordered graphene nanosheets(HDGNs)on CNT films and then WS_(2)on the formed low-dimensional nanocarbon film,a hybrid WS_(2)/HDGN/CNT film was synthesized through a multistep CVD *** grown WS_(2)nanosheets were achieved by taking advantage of HDGNs which limits CNTs ***,the volume expansion caused by the transition from WO_(3)to WS-2can force the vertical growth of WS_(2).This hybrid film shows excellent electrochemical properties,such as high specific capacitance and high rate *** actuators based on the WS_(2)/HDGN/CNT films show good actuating performance,including stability and reconfigurability.

Graphitic carbon nitride loaded with bismuth nanoparticles displays antibacterial photocatalytic activity

Metal-free graphitic carbon nitride nanomaterials have been widely applied in the medical antibacterial field owing to their high anisotropy, excellent stability,satisfactory biocompatibility, and non-toxicity. Herein, Bi/C_(3)N_(4) nanocomposites were successfully constructed by hydrothermal method followed by loading bismuth on the surface of graphite carbon nitride. Bi nanospheres were tightly combined with the layered g-C_(3)N_(4) surface to promote effective separation of photo-induced charges, which results in the Bi/C_(3)N_(4) composite material that exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity under visible light. In addition, the surface plasmon resonance characteristics of semi-metal Bi further enhanced the visible-light absorption of the Bi/C_(3)N_(4). However, excessive Bi may inhibit the light-trapping ability of Bi/C_(3)N_(4).1.0% Bi/C_(3)N_(4) demonstrates excellent bactericidal efficiency as high as 96.4% against Escherichia coli(E. coli), which is attributed to the promotion of the production of reactive oxidative *** enhanced mechanism of Bi/C_(3)N_(4) synergistically achieving enhanced photocatalytic antibacterial activity under the coupling of multiple advantages was clarified,providing theoretical guidance for its application in the field of water disinfection and antibacterial treatment.

Purification of specularite by centrifugation instead of flotation to produce iron oxide red pigment

This study used specularite, a high-gradient magnetic separation concentrate, as a raw material in reverse *** iron concentrate with a grade of 65.1 wt% and a recovery rate of 75.31% were obtained.A centrifugal concentrator served as the deep purification equipment for the preparation of iron oxide red pigments, and its optimal rotating drum speed, feed concentration, and other conditions were *** optimal conditions, a high-purity iron oxide concentrate with a grade of 69.38 wt% and a recovery rate of 80.89% were obtained and used as a raw material for preparing iron oxide red *** with sulfuric acid produced iron red pigments with different ***, middlings with a grade of 60.20 wt% and a recovery rate of 17.51% were obtained and could be used in blast furnace ***-value utilization of specularite beneficiation products was thus achieved.

Effect of cooling parameters on the microstructure and properties of Mo-bearing and Cr-bearing steels

To develop low-cost low carbon bainitic steel,Mo-bearing and Cr-bearing steels were melted in a vacuum induction furnace and were researched by thermal simulation and hot rolling at the *** the cooling rate increases from 0.2 to 50°C/s,the transformation temperatures of two steels lie between 650 and 400°C,and the final microstructures of them change from quasi-polygonal ferrite and granular bainite to lath *** with cooling in air or by interrupted cooling,Mo-bearing and Cr-bearing steel plates cooled by sprayed water boast higher strength and superior toughness,for large-size islands are responsible for the poor mechanical *** to Mo,Cr is effective to isolate the bainitic reaction in low carbon steel,and the bainitic microstructure can also be obtained in Cr-bearing steel cooled at a wide range of cooling rate.
