Dynamic forecasting and optimal scheduling of by-product gases in integrated iron and steel works

The by-product gases, which are generated in ironmaking, coking and steel making processes, can be used as fuel for the metallurgical processes and on-site power plants. However, if the supply and demand of by-product gases are imbalanced, gas flaring may occur, leading to energy wastage and environmental pollution. Therefore, optimal scheduling of by-product gases is important in iron and steel works. A BP_LSSVM model, which combines back-propagation (BP) neural network and least squares support vector machine (LSSVM), and an improved mixed integer linear programming model were proposed to forecast the surplus gases and allocate them optimally. To maximize energy utilization, the stability of gas holders and boilers was considered and a concise heuristic procedure was proposed to assign penalties for boilers and gas holders. Moreover, the optimal level of gas holder was studied to enhance the stability of the gas system. Compared to the manual operation, the optimal results showed that the electricity generated by the power plant increased by 2.93% in normal condition and by 22.2% in overhaul condition. The proposed model minimizes the total cost by optimizing the boiler load with less adjustment frequency and the stability of gas holders and can be used as a guidance in dynamic forecasting and optimal scheduling of by-product gases in integrated iron and steel works.

BACKGROUND: A suitable perfusate is very important in reducing various problems in liver preservation, prolonging the time of organ preservation and enhancing the quality of donor tissue. University of Wisconsin (UW) solution is the most successful solution for preserving multiple organs at present, but it has many shortcomings. We set out to develop a new liver preservation solution (KYL solution) and study its effects on apoptosis in rat liver undergoing cold preservation. METHODS: Using non-circulated isolated perfused rat liver (IPRL), we randomly preserved Sprague-Dawley rat livers for 0, 4, 8, 16, 24, and 48 hours with KYL solution or UW solution. The effects were assessed by measuring the content of free radicals in Krebs-Henseleit solution and the intracellular calcium content of hepatocytes, assessing hepatocellular apoptosis and related-gene expression, and observing the morphological changes in liver. To evaluate the protection by KYL and UW solutions in rat liver perfusion and preservation, we chosed normal saline for negative comparison. RESULTS: The intracellular calcium content of the liver preserved in KYL solution was less than that preserved in UW solution. At every different period of preservation, the malonaldehyde and superoxide dismutase content in Krebs-Henseleit solution, the percentage of apoptotic cells and the expression patterns of apoptosis-related-genes were similar in livers preserved in KYL and UW solutions. Morphological changes in the two groups were almost the same. The variables in both groups were better than those of livers preserved in normal saline. Both KYL and UW solutions protected rat liver from ischemia-reperfusion injury. CONCLUSIONS: KYL solution is superior to UW solution in preventing calcium overload. More severe hepatocyte damage may appear in the KYL group than in the UW group and the effect of KYL solution on apoptosis in rat liver preservation is similar to that of UW solution.

BACKGROUND Autoimmune hepatitis is a serious autoimmune liver disease that threatens human health worldwide,which emphasizes the urgent need to identify novel *** cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth(SHED),which are easy to obtain in a non-invasive manner,show pronounced proliferative and immunomodulatory *** To investigate the protective effects of SHED on concanavalin A(ConA)-induced hepatitis in mice,and to elucidate the associated regulatory *** We used a ConA-induced acute hepatitis mouse model and an in vitro co-culture system to study the protective effects of SHED on ConA-induced autoimmune hepatitis,as well as the associated underlying *** SHED infusion could prevent aberrant histopathological liver architecture caused by ConA-induced infiltration of CD3+,CD4+,tumor necrosis-alpha+,and interferon-gamma+inflammatory *** aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase were significantly elevated in hepatitis *** infusion could therefore block ConA-induced alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase ***,ConA upregulated tumor necrosisalpha and interferon-gamma expression,which was activated by the nuclear factor-kappa B pathway to induce hepatocyte apoptosis,resulting in acute liver *** administration protected hepatocytes from ConA-induced *** SHED alleviates ConA-induced acute liver injury via inhibition of hepatocyte apoptosis mediated by the nuclear factor-kappa B *** findings could provide a potential treatment strategy for hepatitis.

Morphological and Dimensional Control via Assembly of Polyaniline Crystals

A facile and general route to a new generation of polyaniline （PANI）-citric acid （CA） crystals such as 2D nanoplates, 2D nanosheets and 3D microrods self-assembled by the n-n stacking interaction is reported. Dramatic, 3D rectangular shaped microrods and 2D nanosheets are single crystals indicated by SAED patterns and HRTEM images. Moreover, the method does not depend on any specific equipment or heating, cooling and complex procedures. The novel polyaniline crystals will be useful for next generation organic electronics such as nano-transistors.

Relatively High Bone Mineral Density in Chinese Adolescent Dancers Despite Lower Energy Intake and Menstrual Disorder

Objective The effect of dietary restriction, intense exercise and menstrual dysfunction on bone mineral density remains controversial. The aim of this study was to assess the skeletal health status and relationship between bone mineral density and nutrient intake, menstrual status, estrogen level and other factos in Chinese adolescent dancers. Methods Sixty dancers and 77 healthy controls underwent measurements of bone density, body composition, and estrogen level. Nutrient intake, menstrual status and physical activity were assessed with questionnaires. The correlation between these factors were analyzed. Results The dancers under study had a significantly lean body mass index （18.3±1.4 kg/m^2 vs. 21.7±3.1 kg/m^2）, lower percentage of body fat （0.25±0.05 vs. 0.34±0.04） and later age at menarche （14.0±0.9 y vs. 13.0±1.3 y）, and the estrogen level, daily calorie and fat intake in them were also lower than in the controls. All the dancers undertook intensive physical activity every day and up to 69% of them suffered from irregular menarche. Yet they had relatively high BMD and BMC of the total body and legs than the controls after adjusting for BM1 and age. Site-specific BMD was positively correlated to BMI, body composition and training hours per week and negatively correlated to the age at menarche and menstrual frequency. Conclusions The relatively high BMD and BMC of the dancers at the total body and legs were probably caused by high levels of weight-bearing physical activity. To ameliorate disordered eating, especially low energy intake might be helpful to prevent the Triad and to improve the bone health in adolescent dancers.

BACKGROUND： Acute liver failure （ALF） is a severe and life- threatening clinical syndrome resulting in a high mortality and extremely poor prognosis. Recently, a water-soluble CO-releas- ing molecule （CORM-3） has been shown to have anti-inflam- matory effect. The present study was to investigate the effect of CORM-3 on ALF and elucidate its underlying mechanism. METHODS： ALF was induced by a combination of LPS/D-GalN in mice which were treated with CORM-3 or inactive CORM-3 （iCORM-3）. The efficacy of CORM-3 was evaluated based on survival, liver histopathology, serum aminotransferase activi- ties （ALT and AST） and total bilirubin （TBiL）. Serum levels of inflammatory cytokines （TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β and IL-10） and liver immunohistochemistry of NF-KB-p65 were determined; the expression of inflammatory mediators such as iNOS, COX-2 and TLR4 was measured using Western blotting. RESULTS： The pretreatment with CORM-3 significantly improved the liver histology and the survival rate of mice compared with the controls; CORM-3 also decreased the levels of ALT, AST and TBiL. Furthermore, CORM-3 significantly inhibited the increased concentration of pro-inflammatory cytokines （TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β） and increased the anti-in- flammatory cytokine （IL-10） productions in ALF mice. More- over, CORM-3 significantly reduced the increased expression of iNOS and TLR4 in liver tissues and inhibited the nudear ex- pression of NF-KB-p65. CORM-3 had no effect on the increased expression of COX-2 in the ALF mice. An iCORM-3 failed to prevent acute liver damage induced by LPS/D-GalN. CONCLUSION： These findings provided evidence that CORM-3 may offer a novel alternative approach for the management of ALF through anti-inflammatory functions.

XGBoost-based model for predicting hydrogen content in electroslag remelting

An Xtreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)-based endpoint hydrogen content prediction model was proposed for the electroslag remelting process,the data collected in the field were pre-processed,and the characteristic variables of the physical parameters related to the variation of hydrogen content in the electroslag remelting process were selected by machine learning analysis and metallurgical *** kernel ridge regression model,ridge regression model,XGBoost model,support vector regression model and gradient boosting regression model were developed and validated using the electroslag remelting data collected from the steel mills,and the model structure and parameters were adjusted several *** prediction accuracy of hydrogen content was compared *** XGBoost model was validated for the test set with the following hit rates:70.59%,82.35% and 100% for the endpoint hits at the allowable hydrogen content error of ±0.05×10^(-6),±0.10×10^(-6) and ±0.50×10^(-6),respectively.
