Numerical Simulation of Tsunami-like Wave Impacting on Breakwater by CLSVOF/IB Method

In the current study,the treatment of air/water interface has been made on dam-break induced tsunami-like wave by the Coupled Level Set and Volume of Fluid(CLSVOF)three-dimensional *** overall CLSVOF method adopts a Tangent of Hy-perbola for INterface Capturing(THINC)scheme with the Weighted linear Interface Calculation(WliC)and Level Set(LS)function for capturing interface and calculating normal vector,*** far as THINC/WliC scheme is concerned,since the convection problem of the VOF function can be solved well,the numerical diffusion can be *** spatial terms in the LS equation were discretized by the Optimized Compact Reconstruction Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory(OCRWENO)scheme with fourth-order accuracy,which can avoid false oscillation of LS *** combining CLSVOF method with Immersed Boundary(IB)method,the simulation of dam-break induced tsunami-like wave impacting on a stationary breakwater can be carried *** sensitivity,mass error and free-surface profile are first calculated for the tsunami-like wave problem to validate the proposed numerical algorithm,which shows excellent agreement between the numerical results and experimental ***-like waves with varied tailgater levels are then *** of velocity magnitude,free-surface profile and wave elevation of the tsunami-like wave are conducted to investigate its dynamics and kinematics.

Study on HOBEM Based on Analytical Panel Integrals Related to Translating-Pulsating Source for Hydrodynamic Responses of Vessels Sailing in Waves

A higher-order boundary element method(HOBEM)incorporated with analytical panel integrals related to translat-ing-pulsating source Green’s function is proposed for the hydrodynamic response prediction of ships advancing in *** this method,the 9-node bi-quadratic curvilinear elements employed to discretize the mixed-source/dipole boundary integral equation are mapped into the parametric plane through a coordinate *** in order to ease the numerical instability problem,a novel analytical quadrature is derived to calculate the influence coefficients by changing the integral order and using integration by *** singularity caused by infinite discontinuity is analyzed and eliminated by adopting some mathematical *** the calculations of panel integrals of Green’s function and its x-derivative,the analytical integral method is proved to be always accurate even for field points approaching the free surface,where numerical quadrature is impossible to give reasonable *** on this,a higher-order seakeeping program is developed and applied in the motion response prediction of two different types of ships(i.e.,a wall-sided ship Wigley III and a non-wall-sided ship S175).By comparing the computed results with the corresponding experimental data and numerical solutions of the translating-pulsating and higher-order Green’s function methods based on traditional Gauss quadrature,it is found that the HOBEM based on analytical quadrature is of better accuracy and *** the non-wall-sided ship,only the present method can produce reasonable pre-diction of motion responses,while obvious oscillatory phenomenon is observed in the results of the other two numerical methods based on Gauss quadrature.

A QICAR Model for Metal Ion Toxicity Established via PLS Method

The partial least squares（PLS） method was employed to establish a quantitative ion characteristics-activity relationship（QICAR） model for metal ion toxicity（EC50 of 15 metal ions）. The ion characteristics included AN（the atomic number）, AIP（the change in ionization potential, eV）, Xm（the electronegativity, eV）, AW（the atomic weight）, Xm2r（the covalent index）, △E0（the absolute difference between electrochemical potential of the ion and that of its first stable reduced state, eV）, ｜lgKoH｜（the absolute value of the lg of the first hydrolysis constant）, AR（the atomic radius, nm）, AR/AW（the ratio between atomic radius and atomic weight） and ap（the softness index） selected based on relative correlation analysis. The simulated and tested（with the other four metals） efficiency coefficients of the model are 0.88 and 0.96, respectively. The information revealed from the QICAR model indicates that the value of the metal ion toxicity was positively correlated with variables AN, AlP, Xm, AW and Xm2r; negatively correlated with variables AE0, ｜IgKoH｜, AR/AW, AR and ap, and ion characteristics △E0, Xm, σp and Xm2r were found to contribute more to the toxicity of metal ions via the accurate analysis method provided by PLS. The model could be used to predict the toxicity of the target metals and preliminary to assess combined pollution and environmental risk for heavy metals in the environments.

SIMULATION OF TANK SLOSHING BASED ON OPENFOAM AND COUPliNG WITH SHIP MOTIONS IN TIME DOMAIN

Tank sloshing in ship cargo is excited by ship motions, which induces impact load on tank wall and then affects the ship motion. Wave forces acting on ship hull and the retardation function are solved by using three-dimensional frequency domain theory and an impulse response function method based on the potential flow theory, and global ship motion is examined coupling with nonlinear tank sloshing which is simulated by viscous flow theory. Based on the open source Computational Fluid Dynamics （CFD） development platform Open Field Operation and Manipulation （OpenFOAM）, numerical calculation of ship motion coupled with tank sloshing is achieved and the corresponding numerical simulation and validation are carried out. With this method, the interactions of wave, ship body and tank sloshing are completely taken into consideration. This method has quite high efficiency for it takes advantage of potential flow theory for outer flow field and viscous flow theory for inside tank sloshing respectively. The numerical and experimental results of the ship motion agree well with each other.

Microwave-assisted regeneration of hypercrosslinked polymeric adsorbent saturated with nitrophenols

Thermal regeneration ofhypercrosslinked polymeric adsorbent （HPA） was performed at 67℃. Experiments were carried out using a multimode microwave oven operating at 2450 MHz and a thermostatic water bath so as to compare the effect of the different heating mechanisms on the regeneration efficiency of the HPA saturated with nitrophenols. The temperature rise action of the heterogeneous regeneration system under microwave irradiation was described. Additionally, a complete structure and chemical characterization of the regenerated HPA was also carried out in order to study the influence of the subsequent regeneration cycles on the structure and the adsorption capacities of the adsorbents. Structure characterization of the regenerated HPA was accomplished by means of the analysis of FTIR spectra.

Dynamic Properties of Steel Catenary Riser near Touchdown Point Under Coplanar Vessel Heave and Vortex Induced Vibration

The present study establishes a simple numerical model for the coupled response of a steel catenary riser(SCR) subjected to coplanar vessel motion and vortex-induced vibration(VIV). Owing to the large deflection of the SCR, the geometric nonlinearity is considered in this model. The hydrodynamic force comprises the excitation force and hydrodynamic damping, where the excitation force that only exists when the non-dimensional frequency is located in the lock-in range, is associated with the VIV. The hydrodynamic force model is validated based on the published VIV test *** for the seabed resistance at the touchdown zone(TDZ), integrated with an initial seabed trench, the hysteretic feature is modeled. Based on the model, the study emphasizes on the coupled response characteristics near the touchdown point(TDP) induced by coplanar vessel heave and VIV, and analyzes the sensitivity of the coupled response to the heaving amplitude and frequency. It is found that with the increase of the heave amplitude and frequency, the VIV can be obviously mitigated, but the heave-related response in the coupled analysis seems to be close to that in the heave-only simulation. Finally, the fatigue damage near TDP is parametrically investigated based on the separate analysis and the coupled analysis. The results demonstrate that the coupled effect plays a significant role in the fatigue assessment near TDP. Besides, the proportion of the coupled effect accounting for the total fatigue damage decreases with the increasing seabed stiffness, while increases with the increasing seabed trench depth.

Correlation of Exciton and Biexciton from a Single InAs Quantum Dot

The peaks of exciton and biexciton from the single quantum dot(QD)micro-photoluminescence spectra are identified by observing the intensity of those peaks in relation to increasing excitation *** order to further verify the properties of the exciton and biexciton,we perform auto-and cross correlation *** the former,we confirm the antibunching property of the signal light emitted from the single *** cross correlation measurement,we verify that the exciton and biexciton emissions originate from the same QD and they are strongly correlated with each ***,we analyze the behavior of the cross correlation function in both the cases of saturated and unsaturated excitation of the QD.

Identification of Zinc Deficiency-Responsive MicroRNAs in Brassica juncea Roots by Small RNA Sequencing

The importance of zinc （Zn） as a micronutrient essential for plant growth and development is becoming increasingly apparent. Much of the world’s soil is Zn-deficient, and soil-based Zn deficiency is often accompanied by Zn deficiency in human populations. MicroRNAs （miRNAs） play important roles in the regulation of plant gene expression at the level of translation. Many miRNAs involved in the modulation of heavy metal toxicity responses in plants have been identiifed;however, the role of miRNAs in the plant Zn deifciency response is almost completely unknown. Using high-throughput Solexa sequencing, we identiifed several miRNAs that respond to Zn deifciency in Brassica juncea roots. At least 21 conserved candidate miRNA families, and 101 individual members within those families, were identiifed in both the control and the Zn-deifcient B. juncea roots. Among this, 15 miRNAs from 9 miRNA families were differentially expressed in the control and Zn-deifcient plants. Of the 15 differentially expressed miRNAs, 13 were up-regulated in the Zn-deifcient B. juncea roots, and only two, miR399b and miR845a, were down-regulated. Bioinformatics analysis indicated that these miRNAs were involved in modulating phytohormone response, plant growth and development, and abiotic stress responses in B. juncea roots. These data help to lay the foundation for further understanding of miRNA function in the regulation of the plant Zn deifciency response and its impact on plant growth and development.

Down-regulation of miR-622 in gastric cancer promotes cellular invasion and tumor metastasis by targeting ING1 gene

AIM:To evaluate the biological and clinical characteristics of miR-622 in gastric cancer. METHODS:We analyzed the expression of miR-622 in 57 pair matched gastric neoplastic and adjacent non-neoplastic tissues by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Functional analysis of miR-622 expression was assessed in vitro in gastric cancer cell lines with miR-622 precursor and inhibitor. The roles of miR-622 in tumorigenesis and tumor metastasis were analyzed using a stable miR-622 expression plasmid in nude mice. A luciferase reporter assay was used to assess the effect of miR-622 on inhibitor of growth family,member 1 (ING1) expression. RESULTS:Expression of miR-622 was down-regulated in gastric cancer. MiR-622 was found involved in differentia-tion and lymphatic metastasis in human gastric cancer. Ectopic expression of miR-622 promoted invasion,tumorigenesis and metastasis of gastric cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo. ING1 is a direct target of miR-622. CONCLUSION:These findings help clarify the molecular mechanisms involved in gastric cancer metastasis and indicate that miR-622 modulation may be a bona fide treatment of gastric cancer.
