decolorization of Methyl Orange by a new clay-supported nanoscale zero-valent iron:Synergetic effect,efficiency optimization and mechanism

In this study, a novel nanoscale zero-valent iron（n ZVI） composite material was successfully synthesized using a low-cost natural clay, ＂Hangjin 2~#clay＂（HJ clay） as the support and tested for the decolorization of the azo dye Methyl Orange（MO） in aqueous solution by n ZVI particles. According to the characterization and MO decolorization experiments, the sample with 5：1 HJ clay-supported n ZVI（HJ/n ZVI） mass ratio（HJ-n ZVI5） showed the best dispersion and reactivity and the highest MO decolorization efficiency. With the same equivalent Fe0 dosage, the HJ-n ZVI1 and HJ-n ZVI5 samples demonstrated a synergetic effect for the decolorization of MO： their decolorization efficiencies were much higher than that achieved by physical mixing of HJ clay and n ZVIs, or the sum of HJ clay and n ZVIs alone. The synergetic effect was primarily due to the improved dispersion and more effective utilization of the n ZVI particles on/in the composite materials. Higher decolorization efficiency of MO was obtained at larger HJ-n ZVI dosage, higher temperature and under N2 atmosphere, while the MO initial concentration and p H were negatively correlated to the efficiency. HJ clay not only works as a carrier for n ZVI nanoparticles, but also contributes to the decolorization through an ＂adsorption-enhanced reduction＂ mechanism. The high efficiency of HJ-n ZVI for decontamination gives it great potential for use in a variety of remediation applications.

Aperture shape optimization in intensity-modulated radiation therapy planning

A Double-Stage Surrogate-Based Shape Optimization Strategy for Blended-Wing-Body Underwater Gliders

In this paper,a Double-stage Surrogate-based Shape Optimization(DSSO)strategy for Blended-Wing-Body Underwater Gliders(BWBUGs)is proposed to reduce the computational *** this strategy,a double-stage surrogate model is developed to replace the high-dimensional objective in shape ***,several First-stage Surrogate Models(FSMs)are built for the sectional airfoils,and the second-stage surrogate model is constructed with respect to the outputs of ***,a Multi-start Space Reduction surrogate-based global optimization method is applied to search for the *** order to validate the efficiency of the proposed method,DSSO is first compared with an ordinary One-stage Surrogate-based Optimization strategy by using the same optimization ***,the other three popular surrogate-based optimization methods and three heuristic algorithms are utilized to make *** indicate that the lift-to-drag ratio of the BWBUG is improved by 9.35%with DSSO,which outperforms the comparison ***,DSSO reduces more than 50%of the time that other methods used when obtaining the same level of ***,some considerations of the proposed strategy are further discussed and some characteristics of DSSO are identified.

Layout effects and optimization of runoff storage and filtration facilities based on SWMM simulation in a demonstration area

The layout effects and optimization of runoff storage and filtration facilities are crucial to the efficiency and management of the cost of runoff control, but related research is still lacking. In this study, scenarios with different layouts were simulated using the storm water management model(SWMM), to investigate the layout effects on control efficiency with different precipitations. In a rainfall event with 50 mm of precipitation in two hours, 1820 scenarios with different layouts of four facilities constructed in 16 sub-catchments were simulated, the reduction rates of internal flow presented a standard deviation of 10.9%, and the difference between the maximum and minimum reduction rates reached59.7%. Based on weighting analysis, an integrated ranking index was obtained and used to determine the optimal layout scenarios considering different rainfall events. In the optimal scenario(storage and filtration facilities constructed in sub-catchments 14, 12, 7, and 2), the reduction rates of the total outflow reached 31.4%, 26.4%, and 14.7%, respectively, with 30, 50, and 80 mm of precipitation. The reduction rate of the internal outflow reached 95% with 50 mm of precipitation and approximately 56% with 80 mm of precipitation.

Numerical simulation study on the mold strength of magnetic mold casting based on a coupled electromagnetic-structural method

The properties of the magnetic mold in magnetic mold casting directly determine the quality of the final cast *** this study,the magnetic mold properties in magnetic mold casting,were studied utilizing a coupled electromagnetic-structural method through numerical *** study investigated key factors including equivalent stress,the distribution of tensile and compressive stresses,and the area ratio of tensile *** compared molds made entirely of magnetic materials with those made partially of magnetic *** results indicate that as current increases from 4 A to 8 A,both the initial magnetic mold and the material-replaced magnetic mold initially show an increasing trend in equivalent stress,tensile-compressive stress,and the area ratio of tensile stress,peaking at 6 A before *** material replacement,the area ratio of tensile stress at 6 A decreases to 19.84%,representing a reduction of 29.72%.Magnetic molds comprising a combination of magnetic and non-magnetic materials exhibit sufficient strength and a reduced area ratio of tensile stress compared to those made entirely from magnetic *** study provides valuable insights for optimizing magnetic mold casting processes and offers practical guidance for advancing the application of magnetic molds.

Influence of Exhaust Gas Recirculation on Low-Load Diesel Engine Performance

In the condition of constant speed and light load, an experimental study of a turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine with exhaust gas recirculation （EGR） system focuses on the influence of different EGR rates on combustion process, dynamic performance, economic performance and emission performance of a diesel engine. With the increase of EGR rate, the oxygen concentration of the intake-side decreases, the fuel air equivalence ratio increases, and the maximum explosion pressure in the cylinder decreases. Meanwhile, the average temperature in the cylinder drops, the ignition delay is prolonged, the ignition timing delays, and the maximum heat release rate decreases. The increase of EGR rate makes NOx emissions decrease obviously and continue to decline. When EGR is low, the smoke rate enlarges slowly with the increase of EGR rate, and enlarges greatly at the rate higher than 43% and reaches the maximum at the rate of 57%. When EGR rate is higher than 61%, the smoke rate drops rapidly, and the content of CO and hydrocarbon （HC） increases rapidly with high EGR rate.

Performance of microbiological control by a point-of-use filter system for drinking water purification

Purification capacity of a faucet mounted type water filter for home use was evaluated, particularly with regard to microbiological performance under different running conditions. Biofilms were formed inside the filter, affecting the bacterial quality of the effluent water. Low flow rate, long stagnation period and high filter temperature were found favorable for bacterial growth inside. By commercial analytical profile index （API） kits, ten different bacterial species were identified in drinking water, four of which were probably contributed to the biofilm formation since they were also present in the biofilm. Fluorescence in situ hybridization （FISH） was used to confirm the API identification results, and direct viable count （DVC） method was employed to improve the sensitivity of FISH for the isolated Acinetobacter spp. and Pseudomonas putida as models. Relationship between the filter operating condition and the bacterial community alteration was partly revealed, which could provide the basic knowledge for the filter design and its practical use.

Fuzzy mathematics and game theory based D2D multicast network construction

device to device(D2 D) multi-hop communication in multicast networks solves the contradiction between high speed requirements and limited bandwidth in regional data sharing communication services. However, most networking models demand a large control overhead in eNodeB. Moreover, the topology should be calculated again due to the mobility of terminals, which causes the long delay. In this work, we model multicast network construction in D2 D communication through a fuzzy mathematics and game theory based algorithm. In resource allocation, we assume that user equipment(UE) can detect the available frequency and the fuzzy mathematics is introduced to describe an uncertain relationship between the resource and UE distributedly, which diminishes the time delay. For forming structure, a distributed myopic best response dynamics formation algorithm derived from a novel concept from the coalitional game theory is proposed, in which every UE can self-organize into stable structure without the control from eNodeB to improve its utilities in terms of rate and bit error rate(BER) while accounting for a link maintenance cost, and adapt this topology to environmental changes such as mobility while converging to a Nash equilibrium fast. Simulation results show that the proposed architecture converges to a tree network quickly and presents significant gains in terms of average rate utility reaching up to 50% compared to the star topology where all of the UE is directly connected to eNodeB.
