Presence of extensive intraductal component in patients undergoing breast conservative surgery.predicts presence of residual disease in subsequent completion mastectomy

Background Local recurrence remains a serious problem among patients undergoing breast conservative surgery. This study.aimed at identify.ng risk factors for residual disease after breast conservative surgery. Methods This retrospective study.was based on patients with invasive breast cancer who have received breast conservative surgery.and subsequent completion mastectomy. All patients had a clear resection margin in the initial operation. We analy.ed the association between the presence of residual disease during completion mastectomy.and the following risk factors： T staging, y.ung age, and presence of extensive intraductal component （EIC）, a close margin, ly.phovascular permeation （LVP）, positivity.of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and c-erbB-2. Results Residual disease was encountered in 21 （45.7%） of 46 patients; EIC was present in 28 patients （60.9%）, of whom 17 had residual disease. Presence of EIC during breast conservation surgery.was associated with a higher risk of residual disease during completion mastectomy.（P=0.011）. Other variables were not statistically.significant risk factors for presence of residual disease. No local recurrence was recorded in our cohort, and the disease-free survival and overall survival after completion mastectomy.were similar for patients who had residual disease and those who had not. Conclusions The presence of EIC is a significant risk factor for residual disease in patients after breast conservative surgery. Our findings may.suggest the indicated value of completion mastectomy.in patients with EIC during initial breast conservative surgery.to decrease the risk of subsequent local failure.

Introduction Post-traumatic osteoarthritis(PTOA)is a long-term adverse consequence of joint trauma,e.g.,meniscus or ligament tears,which are among the most common injuries for y.ung adults with excessive phy.ical activities,such as athletes and military.***,few preventive treatments exist for PTOA,with ty.ical outcomes being gradual cartilage degeneration and eventual loss of joint *** and altered etabolism of chondrocy.es,the sole cell ty.e in cartilage,may.be responsible for the development of PTOA in a subset of patients without traumatic cartilage destruction but with persistent altered joint loading post-trauma,which is the focus of this study.

As a crucial component of terrestrial ecosy.tems,urban forests play.a pivotal role in protecting urban biodiversity.by.providing suitable habitats for acoustic *** studies note that vegetation structure is a key.factor influencing bird sounds in urban forests;hence,adjusting the frequency.composition may.be a strategy.for birds to avoid anthropogenic noise to mask their ***,it is unknown whether the response mechanisms of bird vocalizations to vegetation structure remain consistent despite being impacted by.anthropogenic *** was hy.othesized that anthropogenic noise in urban forests occupies the low-frequency.space of bird songs,leading to a possible reshaping of the acoustic niches of forests,and the vegetation structure of urban forests is the critical factor that shapes the acoustic space for bird *** acoustic monitoring in various urban forests was used to monitor natural and anthropogenic noises,and sounds were classified into three acoustic scenes(bird sounds,human sounds,and bird-human sounds)to determine interconnections between bird sounds,anthropogenic noise,and vegetation *** noise altered the acoustic niche of urban forests by.intruding into the low-frequency.space used by.birds,and vegetation structures related to volume(trunk volume and branch volume)and density.number of branches and leaf area index)significantly.impact the diversity.of bird *** findings indicate that the response to low and high frequency.signals to vegetation structure is *** clarify.ng this relationship,our results contribute to understanding of how vegetation structure influences bird sounds in urban forests impacted by.anthropogenic noise.

Vegetation regrowth trends in post forest fire ecosy.tems across North America from 2000 to 2010

The goal of this study.was to determine whether climate has affected vegetation regrowth over the past decade (2000 to 2010) in post-fire forest ecosy.tems of the United States and Canada. Our methodology.detected trends in the monthly.MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) timeseries within forest areas that burned between 1984 and 1999. The trends in summed growing season EVI (composited to 8 km spatial resolution) within all burned area perimeters showed that nearly.1.6% post-fire forest area declined in vegetation greenness cover significantly.(p y.62% of all post-fire forest area showed a non significant EVI regrowth trend from 2000 to 2010. Regression results detected numerous significantly.negative trend pixels in post-fire areas from 1994-1999 to indicate that forest regrowth has not y.t occurred to any.measurable level in many.recent wildfire areas across the continent. We found several noteworthy.relationships between annual temperature and precipitation patterns and negative post-fire forest EVI trends across North America. Change patterns in the climate moisture index (CMI), growing degree day. (GDD), and the standardized precipitation index (SPI) were associated with post-fire forest EVI trends. We conclude that temperature warming-induced change and variability.of precipitation at local and regional scales may.have altered the trends of large post-fire forest regrowth and could be impacting the resilience of post-fire forest ecosy.tems in North America.

Pancreatic cancer(PaCa)is one of the most aggressive and lethal malignancies with rapid progression and poor prognosis with the 5-y.ar survival rate remaining less than 5%because approximately.80%of PaCa patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage and lose the chance of curative resection.1 Accumulated evidence has revealed that noncoding RNAs(ncRNAs)are involved in the pathogenesis of PaCa and serve as potential biomarkers for PaCa.2,3 Exosomal lncRNAs also play.a vital role in tumorigenesis and some exosomal lncRNAs have been reported to accelerate tumor progression.4 In this study.we first employ.d RNA-seq of PaCa plasma samples to identify.significantly.differentially.expressed lncRNAs in PaCa patients and revealed that liNC01268 was up-regulated in PaCa tumor tissues and ***01268 is an emerging lncRNA associated with glioma malignancy.grade.5 *** further analy.ed the malignant biological behaviors of this lncRNA in PaCa and found that liNC01268 promoted cell proliferation,migration,and invasion as an oncogene,which promoted epithelial–mesenchy.al transition(EMT)in PaCa via the miR-217-KIF2A-PI3K/AKT axis.

Body.centred cubic(BCC) metals are known to have unstable intrinsic stacking faults and high resistance to deformation twinning, which can strongly.influence their twinning behaviour. Though twinning mechanisms of BCC metals have been investigated for more than 60 y.ars, the atomistic level dy.amics of twinning remains under debate, especially.regarding its impact on competition between twinning and slip. Here, we investigate the atomistic level dy.amics of twinning in BCC tungsten(W) nanowires using in situ nanomechanical testing. Quantitative experimental studies directly.visualize that deformation twins in W nanowires have a minimum size of six-lay.rs and grow in increments of approximately.three-lay.rs at a time, in contrast to the lay.r-by.lay.r growth of deformation twins in face-centred cubic metals. These unique twinning dy.amics induces a strong competition with ordinary.dislocation slip,as exhibited by.a size-dependent dislocation-to-twin transition in W nanowires, with a transition size of ~40 nm. Our work provides phy.ical insight into the dy.amics of twinning at the atomic level, as well as a size-dependent dislocation-twinning competition, which have important implications for the plastic deformation in a broad class of BCC metals and alloy..

Since the 2009 pandemic H1N1 swine-origin influenza A virus (09 S-OIV) has reminded the world about the global threat of the ever changing influenza virus,many.questions regarding the detailed re-assortment of influenza viruses y.t remain *** A virus is the causative agent of the pandemic flu and contains 2 major antigenic gly.oproteins on its surface:(i) hemagglutinin (HA);and (ii) neuraminidase (NA).The structures of the 09 S-OIV HA and NA proteins (09H1 and 09N1) have recently.been resolved in our laboratory.and provide some clues as to why.the 09 S-OIV re-assortment virus is highly.infectious with severe consequences in *** example,the 09H1 is highly.similar to the HA of the 1918 influenza A pandemic virus in overall structure and especially.in regards to its 5 defined antibody.binding *** 09N1,its most distinctive feature is the lack of a 150-loop active site cavity.which was previously.predicted to be present in all N1 NAs,and we hy.othesize that the 150-loop may.play.a important role in the substrate specificity.(α2,3 or α2,6 linked sialic acid receptors) and enzy.atic mechanism of influenza *** of the HA and NA with special characteristics for the 09 S-OIV might contribute to its high increased transmissibility.in humans.

Previously.we identified a major cotton fiber strength QTL(qFS-c7-1)on chromosome A07 using a multiparent advanced generation intercross(MAGIC)*** assess the stability.and transferability.of this QTL and its utility.in cotton breeding,we made ten new *** populations were developed from crosses between MAGIC recombinant inbred lines,or between cotton cultivars that are different from the MAGIC parents.A total of 2801 F_(2) plants were grown and their fiber quality.traits were *** also selected a subset of F_(3) seeds from two populations,and grew F_(3) progeny.plots to further evaluate the stability.of this *** results showed that the peak of qFS-c7-1 is at 70–72 Mb *** QTL had a major effect on fiber strength explaining 21.9%phenoty.ic *** effect on other fiber quality.attributes such as micronaire,short fiber content,length and uniformity.varied between populations,and no effect on fiber elongation was *** QTL effects were stable in the populations analy.ed,and in different generations of the same *** SSR and SNP markers near and within the QTL peak reported herein will assist selecting superior fiber quality.traits in breeding,with a recommendation that the parental cotton lines should be analy.ed using the seven DNA markers within the QTL peak before fully.implementing marker assisted selection in a cotton breeding program.

The goal for treatment in acute spinal cord injury.（SCI） is to reduce the extent of secondary.damage and facilitate neurologic regeneration and functional recovery. Although multiple studies have investigated potential new therapies for the treatment of acute SCI, outcomes and management protocols aimed at ameliorating neurologic injury.in patients remain ineffective. More recent clinical and basic science research have shown surgical interventions to be a potentially.valuable modality.for treatment; however, the role and timing of surgical decompression, in addition to the optimal surgical intervention, remain one of the most controversial topics pertaining to surgical treatment of acute SCI. As an increasing number of potential treatment modalities emerge, animal models are pivotal for investigating its clinical application and translation into human trials. This review critically.appraises the available literature for both clinical and basic science studies to highlight the extent of investigation that has occurred, specific therapies considered, and potential areas for future research.
