This paper presents basic tests to develop an airborne photogrammetric methodology that derives grain size characteristics of gravel bed rivers. The data acquisition was done using a light weight action cam and a hand-held digital single lens reflex camera. Image processing comprised the structure from motion technique and multiview-stereo algorithms to obtain digital elevation models of non-cohesive gravel beds. Laboratory results indicate that the method accuracy is about four to six times lower than laserscan data when based on action cam data. The accuracy of digital elevation models computed via photos taken by the reflex camera is almost of the same range as the laser data. Field experiments were done to test the performance of image based gravelometry against manual surface sampling. For this application the action cam was mounted to a low-cost quadrocopter, while the reflex camera was operated by *** indicate that this combination has a high potential to generate data from which characteristic grain size parameters can be estimated.

Integrative role of pathophysiology in medicine is analogous to that of systemic biology among non-medical life sciences. Pathology rooted in morphology,because autopsy and microscopy in early 19th century revealed some loci and elements of disease. However,this was not enough for comprehension of systemic disorders and relations between elements. This promoted the involvement of physiology and birth of pathophysiology. For a long time the methodological options for bedside studies were scarce,so generations of physicians percepted pathophysiology as a science of lab and vivarium only,unlike pathomorphology,had integrated in clinics earlier. This lead to fornication between two sister branches of pathology and teaching of pathology and clinical subjects separated. Methodological progress of 20th century created basis for less or non-invasive patient studies. Current advances of pathochemistry,medical genetics,immunopathology,bioinformatics-give the chance to pathophysiology and pathomorphology spread far beyond the constraint of their historical names and intermingle. Current Pathophysiology grew into clinics (via laboratory and functional diagnosis,which contains clinical experimenting). This promotes re-integration of pathology sister branches,not via absorption,but through mutual shift to clinical correlations. Holistic approach to patient,disease and education is traditional for Russian medicine. In our pathophysiology teaching,classical lab experiments are joint to early start of clinical pathology (6th term),case history analysis,lectures co-delivered by pathologist and clinician with demonstration of patients. Pathomorphologist and clinician are included in state board for pathophysiology exam. In teaching posters pathophysiological,clinical and pathomorphological data are fused. A marine sediment core obtained from a methane seepage site off the northern coast of Irelandwas analysed, at 3 depths, for catabolic genes associated with the aerobic and anaerobic degradation of aromatic compounds. Catabolic gene copy numbers varied through the core peaking at 2.1 meters below sediment surface (mbsf)-just above the sulphate boundary. Beyond the sulphate boundary gene copy numbers fell considerably, suggesting the boundary may be a critical factor in the degradation of aromatic compounds within marine sediments. At the 2.1 mbsf depth our data also suggest that known benzoyl CoA reductase utilizing bacteria are readily detectable.
