Unusually strong lateral interaction in the CO overlayer in phosphorene-based systems

By means of vibrational spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT), we investigate CO adsorption on phosphorene-based systems. We find stable CO adsorption at room temperature on both phosphorene and bulk black phosphorus. The adsorption energy and vibrational spectrum are calculated for several possible configurations of the CO overlayer. We find that the vibrational spectrum is characterized by two different C–O stretching energies. The experimental data are in good agreement with the prediction of the DFT model and reveal the unusual C–O vibrational band at 165–180 meV, activated by the lateral interactions in the CO overlayer. Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a global health *** to the high prevalence in low-income countries,hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus infections remain the main risk factors for HCC occurrence,despite the increasing frequencies of non-viral *** addition,hepatitis D virus coinfection increases the oncogenic risk in patients with HBV *** molecular processes underlying HCC development are complex and various,either independent from liver disease etiology or *** reciprocal interlinkage among non-viral and viral risk factors,the damaged cellular microenvironment,the dysregulation of the immune system and the alteration of gutliver-axis are known to participate in liver cancer induction and *** mechanisms and pathways change throughout the natural history of viral hepatitis with the worsening of liver *** high risk of cancer incidence in chronic viral hepatitis infected patients compared to other liver disease etiologies makes it necessary to implement a proper surveillance,both through clinical-biochemical scores and periodic ultrasound *** review aims to outline viral and microenvironmental factors contributing to HCC occurrence in patients with chronic viral hepatitis and to point out the importance of surveillance programs recommended by international guidelines to promote early diagnosis of HCC.

Liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma: Where do we stand?

Hepatocellular carcinoma represents an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. It is the sixth most common cancer and the fourth leading cause of cancer death. Liver transplantation is a key tool for the treatment of this disease in human therefore hepatocellular carcinoma is increasing as primary indication for grafting. Although liver transplantation represents an outstanding therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma, due to organ shortage, the careful selection and management of patients who may have a major survival benefit after grafting remains a fundamental question. In fact, only some stages of the disease seem amenable of this therapeutic option, stimulating the debate on the appropriate criteria to select candidates. In this review we focused on current criteria to select patients with hepatocellular carcinoma for liver transplantation as well as on the strategies (bridging) to avoid disease progression and exclusion from grafting during the stay on wait list. The treatments used to bring patients within acceptable criteria (down-staging), when their tumor burden exceeds the standard criteria for transplant, are also reported. Finally, we examined tumor reappearance following liver transplantation. This occurrence is estimated to be approximately 8%-20% in different studies. The possible approaches to prevent this outcome after transplant are reported with the corresponding results.

Monospecific and bispecific genera are of special concern as they represent unique phylogenetic/evolutionary trajectories within larger *** addition,as phylogenetically older taxa are supposed to be exposed to higher rarity and extinction risk,monospecific and bispecific genera may be intrinsically more prone to extinction risks than multispecies genera,although extinction risks also depend on the ecological and biological strategy of the ***,the distribution across biogeographical zones and the levels of threat to 2 speciose orders of mammals(monospecific and bispecific genera of Rodentia and Soricomorpha)are investigated in order to highlight major patterns at the worldwide *** Rodentia,39.7%of the genera(n=490)were monospecific and 17.9%were *** Soricomorpha,44.4%of the total genera(n=45)were monospecific and 15%were *** was a positive correlation between the number of monospecific genera and the total number of genera per *** of monospecific and bispecific genera richness were observed in Neotropical,Oriental and Afrotropical regions in rodents and in the Palearctic region in *** size was significantly uneven across biogeographic region in rodents(with larger ranges in Nearctic and Oriental regions and smaller ranges in the Australian region),but there was no difference across biogeographic regions in terms of range size in *** of the monospecific and bispecific genera occurred in forest habitat in both *** frequency distribution of the monospecific and bispecific genera across IUCN categories did not differ significantly from the expected pattern using the total rodent genera and the multispecies genera.
