The impacts of suspended mariculture on coastal zones in China and the scope for Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture

Introduction:China is responsible for more than 60%of global aquaculture *** the frontiers of food production have expanded,the cultivation of marine organisms in coastal zones and the open ocean has grown *** dominant mariculture industry in China is suspended mariculture,which uses net cages,ropes,or other structures suspended in the water column to cultivate aquatic *** systematic,quantitative review provides a clear and comprehensive account of research that has investigated the adverse impacts of suspended mariculture in China and reviews research that has applied Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture(IMTA)systems for mitigating *** work builds on 218 peer reviewed papers that have been published in English-language ***:Eighteen impacts were identified,including chemical,ecological,physical,and socioeconomic *** measures for improving suspended mariculture were recommended consisting of government department,farm management,and ecological engineering *** was the most frequently recommended *** capabil-ities of IMTA for bioremediation and increased farm production were the most frequently studied *** other benefits have been explored but remain *** current challenges facing the expansion of commercial IMTA include limited use of new technology,limited skills development,decreasing production of low trophic-level species,biogeographic and temporal barriers,and negative system ***:Despite challenges,implementing commercial IMTA is a promising measure for reducing the impacts of sus pended mariculture because it presents a range of secondary benefits that can improve the overall sustainability of aquaculture in the coastal zone.

Comparison of reversed-phase enantioselective HPLC methods for determining the enantiomeric purity of (s)-omeprazole in the presence of its related substances

A simple analytical high-performance liquid chromatography （HPLC） method was applied for the en- antiomeric excess determination of esomeprazole （（s）-OME）, the enantiopure active ingredient con- tained in drug products, in the presence of its potential organic impurities A-E. The enantioselective separation was accomplished on the immobilized-type Chiralpak ID-3 chiral stationary phase （CsP） under reversed-phase conditions. The results were evaluated and compared with those obtained by the official enantioselective method of European Pharmacopoeia used as the reference for checking the enantiomeric excess of （s）-OME. It has been established that the use of the Chiralpak ID-3 CsP allows the determination of the enantiomeric purity of （s）-OME without any interference coming from its chiral and achiral related substances. The analytical procedure of the drug regulatory agencies based on the AGP CsP suffered instead from poor specificity due to overlap of the peaks pertinent to the achiral impurity A and the chiral impurity （R）-OME （impurity F）.

The Physical Laws and Mathematical Axioms of the Brain’s Os and the Traditional Fundamental Laws of Thought of Logic and Philosophy

This article presents four (4) additions to a book on the brain’s Os published by sciRP in 2015 [1]. It is a kind of appendix to the book. some familiarity with the earlier book is presupposed. The book itself proposes a complete physical and mathematical blueprint of the brain’s Os. A first addition to the book (see Chapters 5 to 10 below) concerns the relation between the afore-mentioned blueprint and the more than 2000-year-old so-called fundamental laws of thought of logic and philosophy, which came to be viewed as being three (3) in number, namely the laws of 1) Identity, 2) Contradiction, and 3) the Excluded Middle. The blueprint and the laws cannot both be the final foundation of the brain’s Os. The design of the present paper is to interpret the laws in strictly mathematical terms in light of the blueprint. This addition constitutes the bulk of the present article. Chapters 5 to 8 set the stage. Chapters 9 and 10 present a detailed mathematical analysis of the laws. A second addition to the book (Chapter 11) concerns the distinction between the laws and the axioms of the brain’s Os. Laws are part of physics. Axioms are part of mathematics. since the theory of the brain’s Os involves both physics and mathematics, it exhibits both laws and axioms. A third addition (Chapter 12) to the book involves an additional flavor of digitality in the brain’s Os. In the book, there are five (5). But brain chemistry requires a sixth. It will be called Existence Digitality. A fourth addition (Chapter 13) concerns reflections on the role of imagination in theories of physics in light of the ignorance of deeper causes. Chapters 1 to 4 present preliminary matter, for the most part a brief survey of general concepts derived from what is in the book [1]. some historical notes are gathered at the end in Chapter 14.

By means of the dimensional analysis a spherically simmetric universe with a mass M = csup>3sup>/(2HG) and radius equal to c/H is considered, where H is the Hubble constant, c the speed of light and G the Newton gravitational constant. The density corresponding to this mass is equal to the critical density ρsub>cr sub>= 3Hsup>2sup>/(8πG). This universe evolves according to a Bondi-Gold-Hoyle scenario, with continuous creation of matter at a rate such to maintain, during the expansion, the density always critical density. Using the Margolus-Levitin theorem and the Landauer’s principle, an entropy is associated with this universe, obtaining a formula having the same structure as the Bekenstein-Hawking formula of the entropy of a black hole. Furthermore, a time-dependent cosmological constant Λ, function of the Hubble constant and the speed of light, is proposed.

Lessons learned from the Youngstown, Ohio induced earthquake sequence from January 2011 to January 2012

The Youngstown earthquake sequence of 2011 is one of the clearest examples of inadvertently induced seismicity for which detailed documentation is *** this paper,we investigate(i) likely stress states in the vicinity of the injection well,(ii) a range of likely permeability scenarios,and(iii) relatively simple methods by which induced seismicity can be evaluated and *** use relocated hypocenters from the seismic sequence to construct a basement fault structure,which is then used to serve as a reference surface within the basement,and on which we calculate the effects of pore pressure changes induced by the injection activities of the Northstar #1 injection *** also deduce an in situ(preinjection) strike-slip stress regime,where ρ2≈ρ3,and it is consistent with both recent earthquake data and published stress estimates for the *** the reactivation characteristics of the basement are known or assumed,a critical or threshold slip tendency can be determined and the basement faults can be analyzed for the likelihood of reactivation in a perturbed pore pressure *** of well injection pressures and simulated pore pressure perturbations within the basement below the injection well indicates that permeability anisotropy is necessary to generate sufficient pore pressure perturbation to induce fault *** of the well’s injection history show that our estimate of in situ stress state,coupled with a highly anisotropic permeability structure,can generate sufficient pore pressure perturbation on the inferred basement structure to cause reactivation,potentially slipping an area of approximately 4×10~5 m~2.

A seed blend refuge has been implemented in the *** Belt for Bt maize resistance *** fall armyworm,spodoptera frugiperda(***),is a target pest of Bt maize in the *** larvae of this pest are mobile,which may affect the efficacy of seed blend *** this study,field and greenhouse trials were conducted to determine the performance of Bt-susceptible(aabb)and-heterozygous dual-gene-resistant(AaBb)genotypes of *** in seed blends of non-Bt and pyramided Bt *** field trials evaluated larval survival,larval growth,and plant injury with aabb in seed blends of Bt maize expressing Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2/Vip3A with 0–30%non-Bt *** tests investigated the performance of aabb and AaBb in seed blends of Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 with 0–30% non-Bt *** pure non-Bt maize plots,after 9–13 d of neonates being released on the plants,0.39 and 0.65 larvae/plant survived with leaf injury ratings of 4.7 and 5.9(Davis's 1–9 scale)in the field and greenhouse,*** contrast,live larvae and plant injury were virtually not observed on Bt plants across all planting *** occurrence and plant injury by aabb on non-Bt plants were similar between seed blends and pure non-Bt plantings,suggesting that the blended refuges could provide an equivalent susceptible population as structured refuge under the test *** the greenhouse,the two insect genotypes in seed blends performed similarly,indicating that the seed blends did not provide more favorable conditions for AaBb over *** information generated from this study should be useful in managing *** and evaluating if send blends could be suitable refuge options for Bt resistance management in the regions where the insect is a primary target pest.

The Monty Hall Problem and beyond: Digital-Mathematical and Cognitive Analysis in Boole’s Algebra, Including an Extension and Generalization to Related Cases

The Monty Hall problem has received its fair share of attention in mathematics. Recently, an entire monograph has been devoted to its history. There has been a multiplicity of approaches to the problem. These approaches are not necessarily mutually exclusive. The design of the present paper is to add one more approach by analyzing the mathematical structure of the Monty Hall problem in digital terms. The structure of the problem is described as much as possible in the tradition and the spirit—and as much as possible by means of the algebraic conventions—of George Boole’s Investigation of the Laws of Thought (1854), the Magna Charta of the digital age, and of John Venn’s symbolic Logic (second edition, 1894), which is squarely based on Boole’s Investigation and elucidates it in many ways. The focus is not only on the digital-mathematical structure itself but also on its relation to the presumed digital nature of cognition as expressed in rational thought and language. The digital approach is outlined in part 1. In part 2, the Monty Hall problem is analyzed digitally. To ensure the generality of the digital approach and demonstrate its reliability and productivity, the Monty Hall problem is extended and generalized in parts 3 and 4 to related cases in light of the axioms of probability theory. In the full mapping of the mathematical structure of the Monty Hall problem and any extensions thereof, a digital or non-quantitative skeleton is fleshed out by a quantitative component. The pertinent mathematical equations are developed and presented and illustrated by means of examples.

Wireless Body Area Network(WBAN)technologies are emerging with extensive applications in several *** is a fascinating domain of WBAN for smart monitoring of a patient’s *** important factor to consider in WBAN is a node’s *** the lifetime of nodes is critical to address many issues,such as utility and *** routing protocols have addressed the energy conservation problem but considered only a few parameters,thus affecting their ***,most of the existing schemes did not consider traffic prioritization which is critical in *** this paper,an adaptive multi-cost routing protocol is proposed with a multi-objective cost function considering minimum distance from sink,temperature of sensor nodes,priority of sensed data,and maximum residual energy on sensor *** performance of the proposed protocol is compared with the existing schemes for the parameters:network lifetime,stability period,throughput,energy consumption,and path *** is evident from the obtained results that the proposed protocol improves network lifetime and stability period by 30%and 15%,respectively,as well as outperforms the existing protocols in terms of throughput,energy consumption,and path loss.

The number circle—that is, the notion that the largest possible positive numbers are followed by infinity and then by the smallest possible negative numbers—is not new. L. Euler defended it in the eighteenth century and, before him, J. Wallis considered something vaguely similar. However, in the nineteenth century, the number circle was for the most part abandoned—even if something similar is on occasion accepted in geometry, in the sense that space is circular. The design of the present paper is to present positive proof of the veracity of the number circle and therefore, at the same time, to falsify the number line. Verifying the number circle implies falsifying negative infinity and positive infinity—infinity instead being neither negative nor positive, just like 0. Part of said proof involves showing that infinity can be defined both as 1+1+1+1+1+1+... and as -1-1-1-1-1-... and that the following Equation applies: 1+1+1+1+1+1+...=-1-1-1-1-1-... The principal mathematical technique that will be used to provide said proof is introduced here for the first time. It is called the two dimensional infinite series. It is an infinite series of infinite series. some additional observations regarding the geography of infinity will be made. A more detailed description of the geography of infinity will be reserved for other papers. The Equation is discussed in this paper only to the extent that the attention that has been paid to it has necessitated the construction of a theory of infinity that, upon closer inspection, makes the Equation more self-evident and intuitively apparent;a fuller discussion will take place in a later paper.
