Ba.kground To control the boll weevil a.thonomus gra.dis gra.dis(Coleoptera.Curculionida.),a.key pest of cotton in the a.erica.,insecticides ha.e been intensively used to ma.a.e their popula.ions,increa.ing selection pressure for resista.t ***,this study a.med to detect insecticide resista.ce a.d a.sess insecticide control fa.lure likelihood of boll weevil popula.ions exposed to ma.a.hion,profenophos+cypermethrin,a.d fipronil *** Twelve popula.ions of the boll weevil were collected from commercia. cotton fileds of the sta.e of Ba.ia.northea.tern *** popula.ions were exposed to ma.a.hion,profenophos+cypermethrin mixture,a.d fipronil,a. their respective ma.imum la.el dose for field *** replica.es of 10 a.ult beetles were exposed to the insecticides a.d morta.ity wa. recorded a.ter 24 h *** control fa.lure likelihood wa. determined a.ter 48 *** media. letha. times(LT_(50))were observed for ma.a.hion a.d the profenophos+cypermethrin *** to a. lea.t one insecticide wa. detected in 11 popula.ions;three popula.ions were resista.t to ma.a.hion a.d profenophos+cypermethrin;seven were resista.t to a.l insecticides *** resista.ce levels were low(a.ions tested,58%of them exhibited significa.t risk of control fa.lure for the insecticides ma.a.hion a.d profenophos+*** insecticide fipronil wa. efficient for the control of the boll weevil in 83%of the *** The results confirm the significa.t risk of insecticide control fa.lure in the boll weevil popula.ions to the ma.n compounds used in the ***,proper insecticide resista.ce ma.a.ement pla.s a.e necessa.y for the boll weevil in the region,pa.ticula.ly for ma.a.hion a.d profenophos+cypermethrin insecticides.
