FOLFiRi plus bevacizumab as a second-line therapy for metastatic intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

Aim:To evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of FOLFiRi plus bevacizumab treatment outcome as second-line treatment for metastatic intrahepatic ***:Thirteen consecutive patients with metastatic intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma who were refractory tofirst-line therapy consisting of gemcitabine plus oxaliplatinbased first-line chemotherapy given intravenously via intra-arterial infusion were treated with FOLFiRi[irinotecan(180 mg/m2 *** 90 min)concurrently with folinic acid(400 mg/m2 *** 120 min)followed by fluorouracil(400 mg/m2 ***)then fluorouracil 2400 mg/m2 intravenous infusion over 46 h]and bevacizumab(5mg/kg)every 2 *** response was evaluated by computed tomography scan every 4 ***:The best tumor responses using response evaluation criteria in solid tumor criteria were:complete response for 1 patient,partial response for 4 patients,and stable disease for 6 patients after 6 mo of *** response rate was 38.4%(95%Ci:12.5-89)and the disease control rate was 84.5%(95%Ci:42-100).Seven deaths occurred at the time of analysis,progression free survival was 8 mo(95%Ci:7-16),and median overall survival was 20 mo(95%Ci:8-48).No grade 4toxic events were *** grade 3 hematological toxicities and one grade 3 digestive toxicity *** adaptive reduction in chemotherapy dosage was required in 2 patients due to hematological toxicity,and a delay in chemotherapy cycles was required for 3 ***:FOLFiRi plus bevacizumab combination treatment showed promising efficacy and safety as second-line treatment for metastatic intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma after failure of the first-line treatment of gemcitabine plus oxaliplatin chemotherapy.

Objective:To evaluate the effects of phenolic acids(caffeic,ferulic,and coumaric acids)and flavones(luteolin and apigenin)on the proliferation and melanogenesis in murine melanoma B16-F10 ***:Cell proliferation was determined after 24 and 48 hours of incubation using mTT *** effects of these tested compounds on cell cycle progression were analyzed by flow ***,the melanin content and tyrosinase activity were measured spectrophotometrically at 475 ***:Luteolin and apigenin exhibited significant anti-proliferative activity against B16-F10 cells,while caffeic,ferulic,and coumaric acids induced slight inhibition after 24 and 48 hours of *** tested compounds disturbed cell cycle progression of B16-F10,by a subsequent decrease in G1 and arrested cycle progression in either G1/S or G2/m ***,apigenin provoked an increase in melanin content of B16-F10 *** contrast,luteolin,caffeic,ferulic and coumaric acids induced a decrease in melanin content of B16-F10 cells by inhibiting tyrosinase ***:These active polyphenols may be used as skin whitening agents or natural tanning agents to treat skin pigmentation disorders.

Natural regeneration of oriental beech(Fagus orientalis Lipsky)trees in canopy gaps and under closed canopy in a forest in northern iran

For developing nature-based silvicultural practices in a beech forest to promote, abundance, height, vitality, and preferred growth form, regenerated trees growing in gaps were compared with those under closed canopies. A systematic 50 ×50 m grid was plotted in a beech stand in the Kheyrud Experimental Forest for selecting trees to measure variables in gaps and under closed canopies. Abundance and mean height of regenerated beech trees were significantly higher in closed canopies than in canopy gaps. Beech seedlings with excurrent growth were significantly taller within regeneration patches under closed canopy. moreover, regenerated trees with high vitality were more abundant in closed canopy areas than in gaps. Thus, beech regeneration should improve under closed canopies; hence, gaps in a near natural forest should be created only after adequate regeneration and appropriate growth under the parent tree in a closed canopy area is ensured. The results of this research have profound implications for the sustainable management of the forest and for ensuring sustainable beech regeneration. The presence of a closed canopy cover likely will reduce potential stresses on oriental beech regeneration.

Background: Obesity is a major public health problem and its occurrence is markedly increasing in developed and developing countries. However, few studies have investigated the use of natural products to treat obesity. The effects of taking a combination of oxymel and Zataria multiflora Boiss.(Zm), herein referred to as Zataria oxymel(ZO), on obesity, lipid profile and insulin resistance have not yet been ***: This study evaluates the effects of oxymel and ZO on obesity, lipid profile and insulin ***, setting, participants and interventions: in this randomized, controlled, triple-blind trial, overweight patients were randomly divided into three groups and received doses of study compounds twice per day for twelve weeks. Group A received 0.75 g Zm in 10 mL oxymel in each treatment;group B received 1.5 g Zm in 10 m L of oxymel in each treatment and group C(control) only received 10 mL of oxymel in each *** outcome measures: Anthropometric parameters, including body mass index(Bmi), waist circumference and hip circumference, were measured at the time of registration. Blood tests were carried out at the beginning and once again at end of the study. Blood parameters included fasting blood sugar(FBS), insulin levels, serum lipid profile(total cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol) and liver enzymes(aspartate transaminase and alanine transaminase).Serum creatinine was also measured at the beginning of the project and in monthly intervals for three months. The homeostasis model assessment index was calculated as fasting insulin(μiU/mL)×FBS(mg/dL)/***: The results showed that patients receiving ZO experienced significant reduction in waist circumference in groups A, B and C, respectively(P ignificant change in Bmi. Objective:To determine the polymorphisms of interleukin-10(iL-10)(-592,-1082) in pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB)with and without type 2 diabetes(T2D).methods:We studied a mexican mestizo population of 37 patients with TB in remission(TBr) and 40 with active pulmonary TB (PTB),21 patients with TB + T2D.47 blood donors accepted,and 13 healthy health-care workers with tuberculin skin lest *** of iL-10 polymorphisms was performed by real-lime Polymerase chain ***:iL-10-592C/A presented in a greater proportion in healthy individuals than in patients with type 2 diabetes and TB in a not quite significant statistically ***-10-1082A/A presented more frequently in the group of patients with both diseases,not being statistically significant in comparison with the group of healthy subjects. Conclusions:This study describes two important new ***,it reveals that the iL-10 (-592 A/A and -592 C/C) polymorphisms were found in a greater proportion in a group of patients with T2D and TB than in healthy ***,the study provides evidence that the(-1082 G/G) polymorphism presented with greater frequency in healthy individuals than in patients with both ol these diseases.

mechanisms associated with winter intraseasonal extreme sea ice extent in the Weddell Sea

Previous studies have shown evidence of atmospheric extratropical wave trains modulating sea ice area in the Weddell and Amundsen/Bellingshausen seas on intraseasonal time-scales(20–100 d). Here we investigate mechanisms relating intraseasonal extreme sea ice extent and Ekman layer dynamics with emphasis on the Weddell Sea. This study extends from 1989 to 2013 and focuses on the winter season. Wind stress τ is calculated with winds from the Climate Forecast System reanalysis(CFSR) to evaluate momentum transfer between the atmosphere and the Ekman layer. Lag-composites of the anomalies of Ekman transport and the Ekman pumping indicate that divergence of mass in the Ekman layer and upwelling lead the occurrence of extreme sea ice contraction on intraseasonal time-scales in the Weddell Sea. Opposite conditions(i.e., convergence of the mass and downwelling) lead extreme sea ice expansion on intraseasonal time-scales. This study suggests that the Ekman pumping resulting from the anomalous wind stress on intraseasonal time-scales can transport these warmer waters to the surface contributing to sea ice melting. Additionally, high resolution sea ice fraction and ocean currents obtained from satellite and in situ data are used to investigate in detail mechanisms associated with persistent extreme sea ice expansion and contraction on intraseasonal time-scales. These case studies reveal that atmospheric circumpolar waves on intraseasonal time-scales can induce contrasting anomalies of about ±20% in sea ice concentration at the Weddell and western Antarctica Peninsula margins within less than 30 d. This study shows that extreme anomalies in sea ice may lag between 5–25 d(1–5 pentads) the ocean-atmospheric forcing on intraseasonal time-scales.
