Pore shrinkage capacity of Shajiang black soils(Vertisols)on the North China Plain and its influencing factors

Different pore sizes present different pore shrinkage capacities in a nonrigid soil.However,the shrinkage capacities of different pore sizes and their influencing factors are not clear.We aimed to quantify the shrinkage capacities of different pore sizes(large pores,>50μm;medium pores,0.2-50μm;fine pores,<0.2μm)and determine how soil properties impact soil shrinkage capacity at the regional scale.Two sampling transects from west to east(360 km long,35 samples)and from north to south(190 km long,29 samples)were selected to investigate soil shrinkage capacity and physicochemical properties of at0-20 cm depth in the Vertisol(locally known as Shajiang black soil)region of the North China Plain.The results showed that soil total shrinkage capacity,indicated by the coefficient of linear extensibility(COLE),had a mean value of 0.041-0.051 in the west-east and north-south transects.Large pores had higher pore shrinkage index(PSI)values(0.103-0.109)than medium(0.077-0.096)and fine(0.087-0.091)pores.The PSI of fine pores showed a fluctuating increasing trend from northwest to southeast,and the fine pore shrinkage capacity determined the COLE(r^(2)=0.789,P<0.001).The PSI of large pores had a significant relationship with soil bulk density(r=0.281,P<0.05)and organic carbon(r=-0.311,P<0.05),whereas those of medium and fine pores were correlated with soil clay content(r=0.381 and 0.687,respectively,P<0.001).In addition,the PSI of fine pores was also correlated with montmorillonite content(r=0.387,P<0.01).It can be concluded that the PSI of large pores is related to anthropogenically influenced soil properties with low stability,whereas those of medium and fine pores are related to pedogenic properties.The high variability in anthropogenic and pedogenic factors explains the spatial pattern of Vertisol shrinkage capacity on the North China Plain.

Lipid remodeling is crucial for cold tolerance in plants.However,the precise alternations of lipidomics during cold responses remain elusive,especially in maize(Zea mays L.).In addition,the key genes responsible for cold tolerance in maize lipid metabolism have not been identified.Here,we integrate lipidomic,transcriptomic,and genetic analysis to determine the profile of lipid remodeling caused by cold stress.We find that the homeostasis of cellular lipid metabolism is essential for maintaining cold tolerance of maize.Also,we detect 210 lipid species belonging to 13 major classes,covering phospholipids,glycerides,glycolipids,and free fatty acids.Various lipid metabolites undergo specific and selective alterations in response to cold stress,especially mono-/di-unsaturated lysophosphatidic acid,lysophosphatidylcholine,phosphatidylcholine,and phosphatidylinositol,as well as polyunsaturated phosphatidic acid,monogalactosyldiacylglycerol,diacylglycerol,and triacylglycerol.In addition,we identify a subset of key enzymes,including ketoacyl-acyl-carrier protein synthase II(KAS II),acyl-carrier protein 2(ACP2),male sterility33(Ms33),and stearoyl-acyl-carrier protein desaturase 2(SAD2)involved in glycerolipid biosynthetic pathways are positive regulators of maize cold tolerance.These results reveal a comprehensive lipidomic profile during the cold response of maize and provide genetic resources for enhancing cold tolerance in crops.

Stable α-CsPbI3 with extremely red emission for expanding the color gamut

The wider color gamut represents the better reproducibility of the real natural colors. Perovskite materials exhibit promising potential in full-color wide-gamut displays because of the wide tunability and high saturability of their photon emission. However, the full-color wide gamut(>100% Rec.2020) has not been constructed due to the lack of the extreme red primary color(～700 nm). Herein, the widest color gamut is realized, whereinα-CsPbI3 is used to generate the extreme red primary color. An in-situ encapsulation approach is advised to stabilizeα-CsPbI3 at room temperature by means of polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP).Theα-CsPbI3 encapsulated by PVP(denoted as P-CPI) shows highly saturated(FWHM(full width at half maximum) ～28 nm) and extremely(～697 nm) red emission. The green emission is provided by P-CPBr(CsPbBr3 with PVP) which is also synthesized using the universal in-situ encapsulation approach. With the assistance of a commercial Ga N chip, the RGB gamut is extended to the widest(151% NTSC, 113%Rec.2020).

miR-24-3p promotes proliferation and inhibits apoptosis of porcine granulosa cells by targeting P27

Ovarian follicle development is associated with the physiological functions of granulosa cells(GCs),including proliferation and apoptosis.The level of miR-24-3p in ovarian tissue of high-yielding Yorkshire×Landrace sows was significantly higher than that of low-yielding sows.However,the functions of miR-24-3p on GCs are unclear.In this study,using flow cytometry,5-ethynyl-2′-de-oxyuridine(EdU)staining,and cell count,we showed that miR-24-3p promoted the proliferation of GCs increasing the proportion of cells in the S phase and upregulating the expression of cell cycle genes,moreover,miR-24-3p inhibited GC apoptosis.Mechanistically,on-line prediction,bioinformatics analysis,a luciferase reporter assay,RT-qPCR,and Western blot results showed that the target gene of miR-24-3p in proliferation and apoptosis is cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1B(P27/CDKN1B).Furthermore,the effect of miR-24-3p on GC proliferation and apoptosis was attenuated by P27 overexpression.These findings suggest that miR-24-3p regulates the physiological functions of GCs.

The reprogramming of parental epigenomes in human early embryos remains elusive. To what extent the characteristics of parental epigenomes are conserved between humans and mice is currently unknown. Here,we mapped parental haploid epigenomes using human parthenogenetic and androgenetic embryos. Human embryos have a larger portion of genome with parentally specific epigenetic states than mouse embryos.The allelic patterns of epigenetic states for orthologous regions are not conserved between humans and mice. Nevertheless, it is conserved that maternal DNA methylation and paternal H3K27me3 are associated with the repression of two alleles in humans and mice. In addition, for DNA-methylation-dependent imprinting, we report 19 novel imprinted genes and their associated germline differentially methylated regions. Unlike in mice, H3K27me3-dependent imprinting is not observed in human early embryos.Collectively, allele-specific epigenomic reprogramming is different in humans and mice.

In this study,a novel method is proposed for producing perovskite rare-earth manganese oxide magnetic refrigeration materials that exhibit superior properties compared to similar materials.The maximum magnetic entropy change values for this sample are 1.44 and 3.75 J·kg-1·K-1for magnetic fields of 2 and 7 T,respectively.Additionally,its relative cooling power has been calculated to be 101.96 and 404.78 J·kg-1,indicating good performance.Both results were obtained using the sample synthesized under a pressure of 4 GPa,and the sample has undergone a second phase transition.The critical behavior of the sample fits well with the mean field model.For different magnetic fields,there is a significant overlap between the values of the maximum magnetic entropy change and the temperature-averaged entropy change,indicating that the refrigeration performance of the sample after high pressure can approach its maximum capability.

The remote forcing from land surface changes in the Sahara is hypothesized to play a pivotal role in modulating the intensity of the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM)through ocean-atmospheric teleconnections.This modulation has far-reaching consequences,particularly in facilitating societal shifts documented in northern China.Here,we present a well-dated lake-level record from the Daihai Lake Basin in northern China,providing quantitative assessments of Holocene monsoonal precipitation and the consequent migrations of the northern boundary of the EASM.Our reconstruction,informed by a water-and-energy balance model,indicates that annual precipitation reached700 mm during 8–5 ka,followed by a rapid decline to tween 5 and 4 ka.This shift coherently aligns with a signi550 mm be-ficant300 km northwestward movement of the EASM northern boundary during the Middle Holocene(MH),in contrast to its current position.Our findings underscore that these changes cannot be entirely attributed to orbital forcing,as corroborated by simulation tests.Climate model simulations deployed in our study suggest that the presence of the Green Sahara during the MH significantly strengthened the EASM and led to a northward shift of the monsoon rainfall belt.Conversely,the Sahara’s reversion to a desert landscape in the late Holocene was accompanied by a corresponding southward retraction of monsoon influence.These dramatic hydroclimate changes during5–4 ka likely triggered or at least contributed to a shift in Neolithic cultures and societal transformation in northern China.With decreasing agricultural productivity,communities transitioned from millet farming to a mixed rainfed agriculture and animal husbandry system.Thus,our findings elucidate not only the variability of the EASM but also the profound implications of a remote forcing,such as surface transformations of the Sahara,on climatic changes and cultural evolution in northern China.

Background:Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is associated with disordered lipid and iron metabolism.Our previous study has substantiated the pivotal role of Caveolin-1(Cav-1)in protecting hepatocytes and mediating iron metabolism in the liver.This study aimed to explore the specific mechanisms underlying the regulation of iron metabolism by Cav-1 in NAFLD.Methods:Hepatocyte-specific Cav-1 overexpression mice and knockout mice were used in this study.Cav-1-knockdown of RAW264.7 cells and mouse primary hepatocytes were performed to verify the changes in vitro.Moreover,a high-fat diet and palmitic acid plus oleic acid treatment were utilized to construct a NAFLD model in vivo and in vitro,respectively,while a high-iron diet was used to construct an in vivo iron overload model.Besides,iron concentration,the expression of Cav-1 and iron metabolism-related proteins in liver tissue or serum were detected using iron assay kit,Prussian blue staining,Western blotting,immunofluorescence staining,immunohistochemical staining and ELISA.The related indicators of lipid metabolism and oxidative stress were evaluated by the corresponding reagent kit and staining.Results:Significant disorder of lipid and iron metabolism occurred in NAFLD.The expression of Cav-1 was decreased in NAFLD hepatocytes(P<0.05),accompanied by iron metabolism disorder.Cav-1 enhanced the iron storage capacity of hepatocytes by activating the ferritin light chain/ferritin heavy chain pathway in NAFLD,subsequently alleviating the oxidative stress induced by excess ferrous ions in the liver.Further,CD68^(+) CD163^(+) macrophages expressing Cav-1 were found to accelerate iron accumulation in the liver,which was contrary to the effect of Cav-1 in hepatocytes.Positive correlations were also observed between the serum Cav-1 concentration and the serum iron-related protein levels in NAFLD patients and healthy volunteers(P<0.05).Conclusions:These findings confirm that Cav-1 is an essential target protein that regulates iron and lipid metabolic homeostasis.It i

DNA damage occurs across tumorigenesis and tumor development.Tumor intrinsic DNA damage can not only increase the risk of mutations responsible for tumor generation but also initiate a cellular stress response to orchestrate the tumor immune microenvironment(TIME)and dominate tumor progression.Accumulating evidence documents that multiple signaling pathways,including cyclic GMP-AMP synthase-stimulator of interferon genes(cGAS-STING)and ataxia telangiectasia-mutated protein/ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3-related protein(ATM/ATR),are activated downstream of DNA damage and they are associated with the secretion of diverse cytokines.These cytokines possess multifaced functions in the anti-tumor immune response.Thus,it is necessary to deeply interpret the complex TIME reshaped by damaged DNA and tumor-derived cytokines,critical for the development of effective tumor therapies.This manuscript comprehensively reviews the relationship between the DNA damage response and related cytokines in tumors and depicts the dual immunoregulatory roles of these cytokines.We also summarize clinical trials targeting signaling pathways and cytokines associated with DNA damage and provide future perspectives on emerging technologies.

In this paper, we consider the unified optimal subsampling estimation and inference on the lowdimensional parameter of main interest in the presence of the nuisance parameter for low/high-dimensionalgeneralized linear models (GLMs) with massive data. We first present a general subsampling decorrelated scorefunction to reduce the influence of the less accurate nuisance parameter estimation with the slow convergencerate. The consistency and asymptotic normality of the resultant subsample estimator from a general decorrelatedscore subsampling algorithm are established, and two optimal subsampling probabilities are derived under theA- and L-optimality criteria to downsize the data volume and reduce the computational burden. The proposedoptimal subsampling probabilities provably improve the asymptotic efficiency of the subsampling schemes in thelow-dimensional GLMs and perform better than the uniform subsampling scheme in the high-dimensional GLMs.A two-step algorithm is further proposed to implement, and the asymptotic properties of the correspondingestimators are also given. Simulations show satisfactory performance of the proposed estimators, and twoapplications to census income and Fashion-MNIST datasets also demonstrate its practical applicability.
