AIM: To study and determine the resting energy ex- penditure (REE) and oxidation rates of glucose, fat and protein in severe chronic hepatitis B patients. METHODS: A total of 100 patients with liver diseases were categorized into three groups: 16 in the acute hepatitis group, 56 in the severe chronic hepatitis group, and 28 in the cirrhosis group. The REE and the oxidation rates of glucose, fat and protein were as- sessed by indirect heat measurement using the CCM-D nutritive metabolic investigation system. RESULTS: The REE of the severe chronic hepatitis group (20.7 ± 6.1 kcal/d per kg) was significantly lower than that of the acute hepatitis group (P = 0.014). The respiratory quotient (RQ) of the severe chronic hepatitis group (0.84 ± 0.06) was significantly lower than that of the acute hepatitis and cirrhosis groups (P = 0.001). The glucose oxidation rate of the severe hepatitis group (39.2%) was significantly lower than that of the acute hepatitis group and the cirrhosis group (P < 0.05), while the fat oxidation rate (39.8%) in the severe hepatitis group was markedly higher than that of the other two groups (P < 0.05). With improve- ment of liver function, the glucose oxidation rate in- creased from 41.7% to 60.1%, while the fat oxidation rate decreased from 26.3% to 7.6%. CONCLUSION: The glucose oxidation rate is signifi-cantly decreased, and a high proportion of energy is provided by fat in severe chronic hepatitis. These re- sults warrant a large clinical trail to assess the optimal nutritive support therapy for patients with severe liver disease.

AIM:To study the clinical outcome of antiviral therapy in hepatitis B-related decompensated cirrhotic ***:Three hundred and twelve patients with decompensated hepatitis B cirrhosis were evaluated in a prospective *** two years of follow-up,198patients in the group receiving antiviral therapy with nucleos(t)ide analogues and 39 patients in the control group without antiviral treatment were ***:Among the antiviral treatment patients,162had a complete virological response(CVR),and 36 were drug-resistant(DR).The two-year cumulative incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)in the DR patients(30.6%)was significantly higher than that in both the CVR patients(4.3%)and the control group(10.3%)(P<0.001).Among the DR patients in particular,the incidence of HCC was 55.6%(5/9)in those who failed rescue therapy,which was extremely *** rtA181T mutation was closely associated with rescue therapy failure(P=0.006).The Child-Pugh scores of the CVR group were significantly decreased compared with the baseline(8.9±2.3 vs 6.0±1.3,P=0.043).CONCLUSION:This study showed that antiviral drug resistance increased the risk of HCC in decompensated hepatitis B-related cirrhotic patients,especially in those who failed rescue therapy.

Exploring low-cost and high-performance catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction(OER)remains to be a great ***-based perovskite oxide has large potential in OER because of its intrinsic activity and outstanding physicochemical *** this study,iridium-doped strontium titanate(Ir-STO)solution is brushed on a Ti sheet by the traditional method to obtain the Ir-STO/Ti electrodes after being calcined at a high *** microstructure and electrocatalysis properties of the Ir-STO are further modified by a facile and scalable NH_(3)-plasma *** addition to the doping of Ir,the NH_(3) plasma treatment further results in N-doping into Ir-STO,which enriches active species and causes oxygen vacancies near doped *** resulting N,Ir-STO/Ti electrode reveals excellent acidic OER activity with the lowest overpotential of 390 m V at 10 m A/cm^(2) and the smallest Tafel slope of 140 mV/dec after 10-min plasma ***,the great potential of activated N,Ir-STO/Ti is regarded as a catalyst for the OER,and thus making a new opportunity for developing other perovskite catalysts via NH_(3) plasma treatment.

Genetic Analysis on Overwintering Character of Glutinous Rice 89-1

This article discusses the overwintering ability and genetic variation of the main agronomic traits in a new germplasm resource, glutinous rice 89-1. Survival rates of overwintering axillary buds and stems were observed in different altitudes. The F1, backcross F1 and F2 populations were constructed from sexual crossing between glutinous rice 89-1 and Hongmangnuo, Fuhui 838, Minghui 63, Ce 64. The overwintering ability and genetic variation of the main agronomic traits were analyzed in different seasons. Results showed that glutinous rice 89-1 could overwinter by axillary buds in low temperatures at different altitudes. Axillary buds would ratoon in the following year. The survival rates of rice stem and axillary buds were 82.6 and 29%, respectively. The grain yields were 6 291.0 kg ha^-1 in the overwintering ratooning season, and corresponded in the main season. Genetic analysis and chi-square test showed that the overwintering ability of glutinous rice 89-1 was likely controlled by polygene, and heritabilities showed diversity in different hybrid combinations. The highest heritabilities of 1 000-grain weight and plant height were in the main crop season, whereas the lowest were in the overwintering season, and the heritabilities of grain numbers per panicle and the seed setting rate reached the highest in the ratooning season. The spikelets per panicle, the seed setting rate, the 1 000-grain weight, the plant height, and the spikelet length had nearly normal distribution in F2 populations of glutinous rice 89-1/Minghui 63, but the seed setting rate had bimodal distribution. Overwintering glutinous rice 89-1 was a useful new genetic germplasm resource.
