Prediction of salinity intrusion in the sheltered estuary of Terengganu River in Malaysia using 1-D empirical intrusion model

Generally one dimensional （l-D） empirical salinity intrusion model is limited to natural alluvial estuary. However, this study attempts to investigate its ability to model a sheltered alluvial estuary of the Terengganu River in Malaysia. The constructed breakwater at the mouth of the river shelters the estuary from direct influence of the open sea. The salinity density along the estuary was collected during the wet and dry seasons for scenarios before and after the constructed breakwater. Moreover, the freshwater discharges, tidal elevations and bathymetry data were also measured as model inputs. A good fit was demonstrated between simulated and observed variables, namely salinity distribution and intrusion length for both scenarios. Thus, the results show that 1-D empirical salinity model can be utilized for sheltered estuarine condition at the Terengganu Estuary, but with an appropriate determination of an initial point. Furthermore, it was observed that the salinity intrusion in the study area is largely dependent on the freshwater discharge rather than tidal elevation fluctuations. The scale of the salinity intrusion length in the study area is proportional to the river discharge of the -1/2 power. It was appeared that the two lines of the 1-D empirical salinity model and discharge power based equation fitted well to each other, with the average predicted minimum freshwater discharge of 150 m^3/s is going to be required to maintain acceptable salinity levels during high water slack （HWS） near the water intake station, which is located at 10.63 km from river mouth.

Background High success rate of intubation and short intubation time have been needed to endoscopists for a complete and comfortable coolonoscopy,if *** purpose of present study was to compare procedure efficiencies according to adult-colonoscope *** This was a prospective,randomized,single-blinded controlled trial.A total of 239 healthy Korean subjects were randomly assigned to two groups：one group receiving intermediate-length adult-colonoscope （n=119）,and the other group receiving long-length adult-colonoscope （n=120）.Cecal intubation time and rate,and terminal ileal intubation time and rate as well as other procedure-related outcomes （adenoma detection rate,withdrawal time,and total procedure time） were *** There were significant differences in cecal intubation time and terminal ileal intubation rate according to colonoscope *** time of cecal intubation was shorter in the intermediate-scope group than that in the long-scope group （（222.13±101.67） s vs.（253.85±109.40） s,P=-0.014）.However,the rate of terminal ileal intubation was higher in the long-scope group than that in the intermediate-scope group （94.2％ vs.83.2％,P=-0.007）.In addition,terminal ileal intubation time was also shorter in the long-scope group than that in the intermediate-scope group （（35.21±38.89） s vs.（44.09±33.87） s,P ＜0.001）.There were no significant differences in other procedure-related outcomes between the two *** The intermediate-length adult-colonoscope had an advantage over the long-length adult-colonoscope regarding cecal intubation time,whereas the long-scope had an advantage over the intermediate-scope regarding the rate and time of terminal ileal *** results suggest that it is rational to prepare and use these two types of colonoscope properly,instead of employing only one type of colonoscope.

The Relationship between Visual Satisfaction and Water Clarity and Quality Management in Tourism Fishing Ports

Visual satisfaction of the tourists with a water body is strongly influenced by water clarity, which is in turn influenced by a number of water quality parameters. Visual satisfaction thus stands to benefit from having a water quality management tool that results in better water clarity. A Clarity Suitability Index of Water Quality (CSIWQ), derived from clarity suitability curves of selected water quality parameters, can allow estimation of optimal values for these parameters, while ensuring high visual satisfaction among tourists. The present study used sampling and survey methodologies to investigate water clarity and quality at five tourism fishing ports;simultaneously, tourists’ visual satisfaction with a water body was assessed through a questionnaire based on their perceptions. The relationship between tourists’ visual satisfaction and water clarity was found to be positive and strong, with water clarity having predictive power of 74.2%. The study showed that DO, BOD, TP, and SS were the most critical parameters for water clarity. A continued product approach of CSIWQ was found to be most appropriate for describing the relationship between water clarity and these four parameters. This enabled a CSIWQ Index value to be calculated. With a CSIWQ value of 0.6, water clarity would be more than 2.08 m, and tourists would experience very high satisfaction. CSI curves showed that DO would preferably be 9.0 mg/L, and BOD, TP, and SS less than 0.5 mg/L, 0.12 mg/L, and 45.0 mg/L, respectively. The model thus produced valuable insights for assessing and improving water quality and ensuring high levels of visual satisfaction among tourists in tourism fishing ports. This model identified only four parameters but could be improved by ensuring that other water quality parameters were included, to encourage an increase in the number of tourists and to include monitoring of more pollutant sources.

The appearance of the water is just one aspect of a waterscape that can be appreciated aesthetically. Water appearance is affected by water clarity and water colour. Here, an aesthetic assessment model of waterscape was suggested. In the model, water clarity and colour have direct effects, whereas water quality and phytoplankton biomass have indirect effects, on tourists’ aesthetic assessment of water bodies. The preferred water colour is aquamarine to blue, regardless of depth of clarity. Water colour ranges from pastel yellow to yellow-green are not favoured by tourists. Four water-quality parameters were correlated with water clarity and phytoplankton biomass. The coefficient of indirect effect of river pollution index on tourists’ aesthetic valuation of aquamarine to blue water colour was -0.457, and for pastel yellow to yellowgreen, it was -0.209. The research results showed observation of water colour could not only reflect waterscape aesthetic value, but also serve as a guide of judging water quality, and the status of phytoplankton benefited to simplify the process of water-quality management for waterscape.

Mineralization, mineralization age, mineral assemblage, mineral chemistry, host rock alteration, fluid inclusion and stable isotope geochemistry are briefly presented in this paper. The origin and evolution of ore forming fluid in this mineralization are concluded.

A model is presented to describe the dynamic physical processes that occur in a transitional boundary layer flow. The CS-solitons, the closed vortex, the secondary closed vortex and the chain of ring-like vortices are postulated to be the basic flow structures of the transitional boundary layer as well as the turbulent boundary layer. It is argued that the central features of transitional and developed turbulent boundary layer flows can be explained in terms of how the series vortices interact with each other, and with the CS-solitons. The physical process that leads to the regeneration of the new closed vortex along the border of the CS-soliton, as well as the processes of evolution of the vortices to high frequency vortices, is described. The model is supported by the important developments in a number of "kernel" experiments, which illustrate both transitional and developed turbulent boundary layer. An important aspect of the model is that it has been formulated to be consistent with accepted rational mechanics concepts that are known to provide a proper physical description of other flows.

The objective of this paper is to design units with well-lighted environment and low-energy consumption in the apartment building. Their daylight and energy performance can be determined by the building shape and orientation. The paper initially produced the results of illuminations and energy efficiency using the daylight and thermal simulations by Autodesk ＂ECOTECT＂. It then provided the comparison on simulation results of two type buildings： Flat-type and L-type apartment. The available options for the design incorporating the environmental performance have less flexibility in fiat-type apartments than in L-type ones. The best unit in the fiat apartment is fixed from -45 to 45 degrees rotation, however, that in the L-type one can change depending on rotating the building. Moreover, if the upper level units had the appropriate environment, the lower level could have larger window areas in order to meet those daylight performance needs. Results show that the facade design should have the different window areas depending on the location of each unit. It can assist in the comfort and low-energy consumption design by using simulation tools that achieve the more predictable understandings.

As the voltage has local characteristics in a power system, system voltage control has depended on human experts in distribution substation local reactive power control station so far in Korea. Since coordinative automatic control has been possible due to the recent advances in computers and communication networks, the hierarchical voltage control system, consisting of primary, secondary, and tertiary control, has been applied in several European countries. Recently the Korea power system has been operated more closely to stability limits because of rapid growth in load-demand as seen in Europe. For this reasons, Korea electric power corporation recognized the need of the voltage control system and developed the voltage control system. This paper presents an intelligent voltage control system for domestic power system using numerical algorithm based on the sensitivity matrix and the expert system. Dynamic characteristics of the developed system are investigated using EMTDC （electromagnetic transient DC analysis program） and RTDS （real time digital simulator）. Several case studies showed the promising performance.
