Bojungbangdocktang inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor induced angiogenesis via blocking the VEGF/VEGFR2 signaling pathway in human umbilical vein endothelial cells

Oriental herbal medicines have been widely used for the prevention or treatment of various diseases including cancer in Asia. However, to prove their chemo preventive efficacies in modern times, scientific evidence for those herbal medicines is required. Thus, in the present study, an effective herbal cocktail Bojungbangdocktang (BJBDT) was investigated to elucidate antiangiogenic mechanism in vitro and in vivo. BJBDT significantly inhibited vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) induced proliferation in HUVECs at nontoxic concentrations, despite weak cytotoxicity against human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). BJBDT also significantly suppressed VEGF-induced migration and tube formation of HUVECs. Furthermore, BJBDT treatment resulted in pale color and low hemoglobin level in Matrigel plugs, as well as dark red color and high hemoglobin level in untreated control. Interestingly, BJBDT specifically inhibited the binding of VEGF to vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2), but not VEGFR1. In addition, friedelin, formononetin, ginsenoside Rb1, naringin, atractyloside, diosgenin, and allantonin were identified from BJBDT by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis as a quality of control. Taken together, these results suggest that BJBDT is a potent angiogenesis inhibitor blocking the VEGF/VEGFR2 signaling pathway in HUVECs.

An on-line scaling method for improving scalability of a database cluster

The explosive growth of the Internet and database applications has driven database to be more scalable and available, and able to support on line scaling without interrupting service. To support more client’s queries without downtime and degrading the response time, more nodes have to be scaled up while the database is running. This paper presents the overview of scalable and available database that satisfies the above characteristics. And we propose a novel on line scaling method. Our method improves the existing on line scaling method for fast response time and higher throughputs. Our proposed method reduces unnecessary network use, i.e., we decrease the number of data copy by reusing the backup data. Also, our on line scaling operation can be processed parallel by selecting adequate nodes as new node. Our performance study shows that our method results in significant reduction in data copy time.

Ru/NiMnB spherical cluster pillar for highly proficient green hydrogen electrocatalyst at high current density

Advanced OER/HER electrocatalytic alternatives are crucial for the wide adaptation of green hydrogen ***,Ru/NiMnB spherical cluster pillar （SCP）,denoted as Ru/NiMnB,is synthesized using a combination of electro-deposition and hydrothermal *** investigation of Ru doping in the NiMnB matrix revealed significant improvements in electrocatalytic *** Ru/NiMnB SCPs demonstrate superior OER/HER activity with low overpotentials of 150 and 103 mV at 50mA/cm2in 1 M KOH,making them highly competitive with state-of-the-art ***,the Ru/NiMnB SCPs exhibit a low 2-E cell voltage of 2.80 V at ultra-high current density of 2,000 m A/cm2in 1 M KOH,outperforming the standard benchmark electrodes of RuO2||Pt/C,thereby positioning Ru/NiMnB as one of the best bifunctional *** SCPs exhibit exceptional high-current characteristics,stability and corrosion resistance,as evidenced by continuous operation at 1,000 mA/cm2high-current density for over 150 h in 6 M KOH at elevated temperatures under harsh industrial *** a small amount of Ru incorporation significantly enhances the electrocatalytic performances of NiMnB,attributed to increased active sites and improved intrinsic properties such as conductivity,adsorption/desorption capability and reaction ***,Ru/NiMnB SCPs present a promising bi-functional electrode concept for efficient green H2production.

A critical challenge hindering the practical application of lithium–oxygen batteries(LOBs)is the inevitable problems associated with liquid electrolytes,such as evaporation and safety *** study addresses these problems by proposing a modified polyrotaxane(mPR)-based solid polymer electrolyte(SPE)design that simultaneously mitigates solvent-related problems and improves ***-SPE exhibits high ion conductivity(2.8×10^(−3)S cm^(−1)at 25℃)through aligned ion conduction pathways and provides electrode protection ability through hydrophobic chain *** this mPR-SPE into solid-state LOBs resulted in stable potentials over 300 *** situ Raman spectroscopy reveals the presence of an LiO_(2)intermediate alongside Li_(2)O_(2)during oxygen *** situ X-ray diffraction confirm the ability of the SPE to hinder the permeation of oxygen and moisture,as demonstrated by the air permeability *** present study suggests that maintaining a low residual solvent while achieving high ionic conductivity is crucial for restricting the sub-reactions of solid-state LOBs.

Testicular torsion,a common urologic emergency,is primarily caused by ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)injury of the *** oxide (NO)-derived from nitrite (NO2-)has been reported to have prominent therapeutic effects on I/R injury in the heart,liver,and brain;however,its effects on testicular I/R injury have not been *** study,therefore,investigated whether NO from NO2^-is beneficial in a rat model of testicular I/R injury which eventually results in impaired *** Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to the following seven groups:group A,sham-operated control group;Group B,I/R with no treatment;Groups C, D,and E,I/R followed by treatment with three different doses of NO2^-;Group F,I/R followed by administration of NO2-and NO scavenger (2-(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-l-oxyl-3-oxide potassium salt [C-PTIO]);and Group G,I/R followed by administration of nitrate (NO3^-).NO2^-,NO3^-,and C-PTIO were intravenously *** examination of the testes and the western blot analysis of caspase-3 were *** of antioxidant enzymes and lipid peroxidation were measured. Germ cell apoptosis,oxidative stress,antioxidant enzymatic function,and lipid peroxidation in Group B were significantly higher than those in Group *** B exhibited an abnormal testicular morphology and impaired *** contrast,testicular damages were attenuated in the NO2^-treatment groups,which were caused by reduction in superoxide and peroxynitrite levels and an inhibition of caspase-3-dependent *** results of this study suggest NO2^-to be a promising therapeutic agent with anti-oxidant and anti-apoptotic properties in testicular I/R injury.

Orally absorbable gold nanoparticles(AuNP)having cancer ablation therapy is strongly demanded to treat glioblastoma multiforme(GBM)for patients with its highest incidence ***,we develop a milk protein lactoferrin-conjugated AuNP for its oral absorption and targeting to the GBM through the interaction between lactoferrin(Lf)and lactoferrin receptor(LfR)that is highly expressed in the intestine,blood-brain barrier and *** stability and long circulation of AuNP,glutathione and polyethylene glycol(PEG)is introduced,which is called to *** Lf-PEG-AuNP are orally administered to orthotopic GBM-bearing mice,11-fold and 8-fold higher concentrations of AuNP are measured in bloodstreams and GBM in the brain,respectively,compared with ***,orally administered Lf-PEG-AuNP exhibit an outstanding temperature rise in GBM by irradiating laser and significantly reduce tumor ***,we suggest that the Lf-PEG-AuNP can fundamentally target GBM in the brain through oral absorption,and that its efficient photothermal therapy is possible.

Horizontal distribution of Changjiang Diluted Water in summer inferred from total suspended sediment in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea

During the summer in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea, the resuspension of the bottom sediment is obstructed by strong stratification and, as a result, the concentration of total suspended sediment（TSS） can be used as an excellent tracer for Changjiang Diluted Water（CDW）. To analyze the spatial and temporal variations of the CDW distribution, the monthly mean TSS from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer（MODIS） ocean color data are constructed and are converted to salinity using the relationship between salinity observed from AQUARIUS and TSS. The process produces the detailed horizontal distribution of salinity with very high resolution（1 km）. From monthly mean salinity map from 2002 to 2012 in July and August, the expansion patterns of CDW are analyzed. The southerly wind in July and southeasterly wind in August transport the CDW eastward and northeastward, respectively. It is found that the yearly variation of the expansion of CDW toward the southern sea area of Korea is mostly due to the variation of southerly wind and the fluctuations of fresh water discharge into the Changjiang estuary show relatively little impact on the eastward extend of CDW. When 11-year mean（from2002 to 2012） salinity map in August is compared with World Ocean Atlas 2013, it is revealed that wind in August strengthened six times from 1994 and it causes the expansion of CDW extended 150 km further eastward.

Simultaneous emission of orthogonal handedness in circular polarization from a single luminophore

The direct emission of circularly polarized(CP)light improves the efficiency of an organic light-emitting diode and characterizes the secondary structure of *** most cases,CP light is generated from a luminescent layer containing chiral characteristics,thereby generating only one kind of CP light in an entire ***,we propose direct CP light emissions using a twisted achiral conjugate polymer without any chiral dopant as an emitting layer(EML).The twisted structure is induced in the mesogenic conjugate polymer due to its elasticity by applying different alignment directions to its upper and lower ***,we demonstrate the simultaneous emission of orthogonal CP light in a single luminescent device by patterning different alignment directions on the surfaces of the *** light source with multipolarization including the orthogonal CP states is applicable to many applications in biosensors and optical devices.

A comprehensive approach to a variability analysis between earthquake activity and hydro-environmental factors on the Korean Peninsula

Following the Pohang and Gyeongju earthquakes and their aftershocks,there is no longer any zone that is safe from earthquake-related disasters in the Korean *** order to monitor and predict earthquakes,correlation analysis of earthquakes and hydro-environmental factors are insufficient,and the development and application of hydro-environmental factor measurement equipment is still in the early *** study developes and verifies a more precise radon measurement *** specific earthquake cases(2019–2020)were selected,and the correlation of the analyses of the earthquakes and hydro-environmental factors(radon,electric conductivity(EC),water-level(WL),and water-temperature(WT))was conducted at the three specific groundwater ***,was confirmed that four factors are affected by earthquakes or seismic ***,the variability of the EC showed an identical tendency for a certain period before an earthquake occurred,and,in particular,the variability trends for radon,WL,and EC coincided at the time of the earthquake′s occurrence.
