The functionalities and diverse metastable phases of multiferroic BiFeO3 (BFO) thin films depend on the misfit strain. Although mixed phase-induced strain relaxation in multiphase BFO thin films is well known, it is unclear whether a single-crystalline BFO thin film can accommodate misfit strain without the involvement of its polymorphs. Thus, understanding the strain relaxation behavior is key to elucidating the lattice strain-property relationship. In this study, a correlative strain analysis based on dark-field inline electron holography (DIH) and quantitative scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) was performed to reveal the structural mechanism for strain accommodation of a single-crystalline BFO thin film. The nanoscale DIH strain analysis results indicated a random combination of multiple strain states that acted as a primary strain relief, forming irregularly strained nanodomains. The STEM-based bond length measurement of the corresponding strained nanodomains revealed a unique strain accommodation behavior achieved by a statistical combination of multiple modes of distorted structures on the unit-cell scale. The globally integrated strain for each nanodomain was estimated to be close to -1.5%, irrespective of the nanoscale strain states, which was consistent with the fully strained BFO film on the SrTiO3 substrate. Density functional theory calculations suggested that strain accommodation by the combination of metastable phases was energetically favored compared to single-phase-mediated relaxation. This discovery allows a comprehensive understanding of strain accommodation behavior in ferroelectric oxide films, such as BFO, with various low-symmetry polymorphs.

BACKGROUND Congestive ischemic colitis is a rare subtype of ischemic colitis with an unknown *** conservative management,such as fasting,no established treatment exists;therefore,surgical intervention should be considered in some cases if symptoms *** literature suggests that anti-inflam-matory agents may effectively treat congestive ischemic *** suMMARY We present the case of a 68-year-old female patient who underwent laparoscopic left hemicolectomy for transverse colon cancer 3 years ***,follow-up included an annual colonoscopy and abdominal computed tomography(CT)at a local ***,progressive erythema and edema of the sigmoid colon were observed 1 year *** admission to our hospital,she complained of abdominal pain and *** CT showed thickening of the sigmoid colon walls,and colonoscopy revealed erythema,edema,and multiple ulcers with exudate in the sigmoid *** angiography showed engorgement of the sigmoid vasa recta without any vascular *** diagnosis was congestive ischemic colitis,and we treated the patient with anti-inflammatory *** 2 mo of glucocorticoid therapy(20 mg once daily)and 7 mo of 5-aminosalicylate therapy(1 g twice daily),the ulcers completely *** has not experienced any recurrence for 2 *** Anti-inflammatory therapy,specifically glucocorticoids and 5-aminosalicylate,has demonstrated promising efficacy and introduces potential novel treatment options for congestive ischemic colitis.

Net Effect of Short-Term Smoking Cessation on Mental Health Changes: Inverse Probability of Treatment Weighting and Difference-in-Differences Method

Background In response to the need for research clearly demonstrating the net effect of smoking cessation on mental health status, considering the causal relationship between smoking cessation and changes in mental health status, this study was undertaken. Thus, this study aimed to examine the net effect of short-term smoking cessation on five specific mental health metrics and the overall mental health status score. Methods We used data from the first wave of the Korean Health Panel (KHP) survey (2011–2013, 2016–2018) and focused on men aged 19 years and older, to explore the effects of smoking cessation. We compared mental health status before and after cessation among current non-smokers who had quit smoking and continuous smokers. We ensured homogeneity between the two groups via inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) and employed a difference-in-differences (DID) analysis to assess changes in mental health status. This study controlled for factors that could influence mental health and explored the net effect of short-term smoking cessation through difference-in-differences model using multiple regression analysis. Results The results showed that short-term smoking cessation significantly alleviated mental and physical stress ( p sults highlight a meaningful link between positive health behavior changes, such as smoking cessation, and enhanced mental health. Moreover, the application of temporal variables further improved the understanding of the causal relationship between health behaviors and mental health.

In combination with theoretical calculations,experiments were conducted to investigate the evolution behavior of nonmetallic inclusions(NMIs)during the manufacture of large-scale heat-resistant steel ingots using 9CrMoCoB heat-resistant steel and CaF_(2)–CaO–Al_(2)O_(3)–SiO_(2)–B_(2)O_(3)electroslag remelting(ESR)-type slag in an 80-t industrial ESR *** main types of NMI in the consumable electrode comprised pure alumina,a multiphase oxide consisting of an Al_(2)O_(3)core and liquid CaO–Al_(2)O_(3)–SiO_(2)–MnO shell,and M_(23)C_(6)carbides with an MnS *** Al_(2)O_(3)and MnS inclusions had higher precipitation temperatures than the M_(23)C_(6)-type carbide under equilibrium and nonequilibrium solidification ***,inclusions can act as nucleation sites for carbide layer *** ESR process completely removed the liquid CaO–Al_(2)O_(3)–SiO_(2)–MnO oxide and MnS inclusion with a carbide shell,and only the Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions and Al_(2)O_(3)core with a carbide shell occupied the remelted *** M_(23)C_(6)-type carbides in steel were determined as Cr_(23)C_(6)based on the analysis of transmission electron microscopy *** substitution of Cr with W,Fe,or/and Mo in the Cr_(23)C_(6)lattice caused slight changes in the lattice parameter of the Cr_(23)C_(6)***,Cr_(21.34)Fe_(1.66)C_(6),(Cr_(19)W_(4)C_(6),Cr_(18.4)Mo_(4.6)C_(6),and Cr_(16)Fe_(5)Mo_(2)C_(6)can match the fraction pattern of Cr_(23)C_(6)*** Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions in the remelted ingot formed due to the reduction of CaO,SiO_(2),and MnO components in the liquid *** increased Al content in liquid steel or the higher supersaturation degree of Al_(2)O_(3)precipitation in the remelted ingot than that in the electrode can be attributed to the evaporation of CaF_(2)and the increase in CaO content in the ESR-type slag.

Pelleting and particle size reduction of corn increase net energy and digestibility of fiber,protein,and fat in corn-soybean meal diets fed to group-housed pigs

Real-world utility of serological tests in patients with suspected scrub typhus in the Republic of Korea:A single-center,retrospective,observational study
