Unveiling the intrinsic properties of single NiZnFeO_x entity for promoting electrocatalytic oxygen evolution

Although considerable research efforts have been devoted to the design and development of non-noble electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction(OER), substantial enhancement of OER performa.ce with commercial-scale water electrolysis rema.ns a big challenge. This could result from the difficulties in detecting the intrinsic properties and overlooking the assembly process for electrochemical OER process. Here, we employ a microjet collision method to investigate the intrinsic OER activities of individual NiZnFeO_x entities with and without a moderate ma.netic field. Our results demonstrate that single NiZnFeO_x nanoparticles(NPs) show the excellent OER performa.ce with a lowest onset potential(~1.35 V vs. RHE) and a greatest ma.netic enhancement(~118%) among bulk ma.erials, single agglomerations and NPs. Furthermore, we explore the utility of theoretical investigation by density functional theory(DFT)calculations for studying OER process on NiZnFeO_x surfaces without and with spin alignment, indicating monodispersed NiZnFeO_xNPs with totally spin alignment facilitates the OER process under the external ma.netic field. It is found that the well-dispersion of NiZnFeO_x NPs would increase the electrical conductivity and the surface spin state, resulting in promoting their OER activities. This work provides a test for uncovering the essential roles of NPs assembly to a significant promotion of their ma.net-assisted OER.

Proposing a ma.hine learning approach to analyze and predict basic high-temperature properties of iron ore fines and its factors

The basic high-temperature properties of iron ore play a crucial role in optimizing sintering and ore blending,but the testing process for these properties is complex and has significant lag time,which cannot meet the actual needs of ore blending.A prediction model for the basic high-temperature properties of iron ore fines was thus proposed based on a combination of ma.hine learning algorithms and genetic ***,the prediction accuracy of different ma.hine learning models for the basic high-temperature properties of iron ore fines was ***,a random forest model optimized by genetic algorithms was built,further improving the prediction accuracy of the *** test results show that the random forest model optimized by genetic algorithms has the highest prediction accuracy for the lowest assimilation temperature and liquid phase fluidity of iron ore,with a determination coefficient of 0.903 for the lowest assimilation temperature and 0.927 for the liquid phase fluidity after *** trained model meets the fluctuation requirements of on-site testing and has been successfully applied to actual production on site.

A ma.hine learning-based strategy for predicting the mechanical strength of coral reef limestone using X-ray computed tomography

Different sedimentary zones in coral reefs lead to significant anisotropy in the pore structure of coral reef limestone(CRL),ma.ing it difficult to study mechanical *** X-ray computed tomography(CT),112 CRL samples were utilized for training the support vector ma.hine(SVM)-,random forest(RF)-,and back propagation neural network(BPNN)-based models,***,the ma.hine learning model was embedded into genetic algorithm(gA)for parameter optimization to effectively predict uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)of *** indicate that the BPNN model with five hidden layers presents the best training effect in the data set of *** SVM-based model shows a tendency to overfitting in the training set and poor generalization ability in the testing *** RF-based model is suitable for training CRL samples with large *** of Pearson correlation coefficient ma.rix and the percentage increment method of performa.ce metrics shows that the dry density,pore structure,and porosity of CRL are strongly correlated to ***,the P-wave velocity is almost uncorrelated to the UCS,which is significantly distinct from the law for homogenous *** addition,the pore tensor proposed in this paper can effectively reflect the pore structure of coral framework limestone(CFL)and coral boulder limestone(CBL),realizing the quantitative characterization of the heterogeneity and anisotropy of *** pore tensor provides a feasible idea to establish the relationship between pore structure and mechanical behavior of CRL.

Carbon uptake by cement in China:Estima.ion and contribution to carbon neutrality goals

Cement is a widely used construction ma.erial *** ma.ufacturing contributes to anthropogenic CO_(2)emissions ***,its alkaline compounds can absorb CO_(2)from the surrounding environment and engage in a carbonation reaction,thereby functioning as a carbon *** a ma.or cement producer and consumer,China has an important responsibility to rigorously investigate and accurately account for cement carbon *** study presents a comprehensive analytical model of cement carbon uptake from China,revealing a substantial increase in carbon uptake from 1930 to 2021,peaking at 426.77 Mt CO_(2)(95% Confidence Interval:317.67-874.33 Mt CO_(2))in *** uptake accounts for 8.10% to 45.40% of China’s annual land sink and 2.51% to 4.54% of the global land *** cumulative carbon uptake by cement is approxima.ely 7.06 gt CO_(2)(95%CI:5.22–9.44 gt CO_(2))during this period,offsetting 50.7% of the total emissions(13.91 gt CO_(2),95%CI:12.44–17.00 gt CO_(2))from the cement ***,cement mortar contributed to most absorption(65.64%).From a life cycle perspective,the service stage of cement ma.erials is the period where the largest CO_(2)sink is formed,accounting for 90.03% of the ***,the potential for carbon sequestration in cement ma.erials and their waste is ***,the model improves the accuracy of cement carbon accounting,supporting both China and global carbon neutrality ***,it is crucial for China to achieve its carbon neutrality goals sooner by prioritizing the environmental benefits of cement ma.erials and wastes,and accelerating the development and commercialization of CO_(2)sequestration technologies for cement and its by-products.

Enhancing the tunneling ma.neto-Seebeck(TMS) ratio and uncovering its underlying mechanism are greatly dema.ded in spin *** ma.nitude and sign of the TMS effect depend on the type of atom and the stacking order of atoms at the ***,we demonstrate that TMS ratios can be effectively ma.ipulated by altering heterogonous or homogeneous interface through decoration on the CoFeSi(001) surface inserted on the MgO insulating *** ma.imum TMS ratio of pure Co_(2)/O termination is 4565% at 800 ***,the TMS ratio of the FeSi/O termination has two peak values,of which the ma.imum could reach up to-3290% at 650 *** comparing two different atom arrangements at the interface,we reveal that the sign and symbol of the TMS ratio can be controlled by the temperature and different atomic configurations at the Co_(2)FeSi/MgO ***,the spin-Seebeck coefficient up to ~150 μV/K is also possible when we select suitable terminations and *** findings will provide useful insights into how to control the sign and symbol of the TMS ratio and accordingly stimulate the development field of ma.neto-thermoelectric power and spin caloritronic devices based on the ma.neto-Seebeck effect in Heusler-based metallic multilayers.

Improvement of impact properties of Al-Si-Mg alloy via solution treatment and joint modification with Sr and La

An effort to obtain superior impact properties for Al-7Si-0.35 Mg alloy is presented,where modification with 0.02 wt% Sr and 0.1 wt% La as well as solution treatment was jointly *** samples were solution treated at 535℃ for 15 min to 12 *** microstructure,fracture mechanism,and their correlation with the impact properties of the alloy were studied in detail ma.nly through optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and oscillography impact *** results show that the addition of Sr and La refined the eutectic Si particles significantly from~ 2.05 μm(modified with Sr alone) to~ 0.75 μm in as-cast microstructure,leading to a very homogeneous distribution of spheroidized Si particles in the alloy solution treated at 535℃ for 8 *** alloy exhibits excellent impact toughness up to 75 J·cm^(-2),which is much higher than the ma.imum impact toughness of the alloys modified by Sr alone(~ 46 J·cm^(-2)).The ma.or reason for this rema.kable increase in the impact property is the drama.ic increase in crack initiation *** dispersoid-free zones(DFZs)near the eutectic regions ma.nly consist of the ductile Al-ma.rix,which exhibits excellent *** ductile Al-ma.rix of the DFZs hinders the crack propagation,resulting in a significant increase in crack propagation energy.

Accelerating the breaking of the nitrogen nonpolar bond(N≡N)is an important factor to improve the effi ciency of the electro-catalytic nitrogen reduction reaction(e-NRR).In this work,polyoxometalates-derived FeMo-based ternary oxide ma.erials MoO_(2)-Mo_(4)O_(11)-FeMoO_(4)@X(abbreviated as MoFeO@X,X represents the synthesis temperature of 650,750 and 850℃)were designed and synthesized for e-NRR under ambient *** scanning electron microscopy ima.es of MoFeO@750 show an ellipsoidal-like structure(0.86×0.6μm).The relatively large specifi c surface area,forma.ion of multiple interfaces,together with the synergistic eff ect of iron and molybdenum bimetals,would ma.e MoFeO@X catalyst more easily absorb and activate N_(2)in the ***,the synthesized MoFeO@750 shows an optima. NH_(3)production rate of 16.57μg·h^(−1)·mg cat.^(−1)and Faradaic effi ciency of 12.33%at−0.3 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode(ν***),with outstanding electrochemical and structural stability.
