Selection of water source for water transfer based on algal growth potential to prevent algal blooms

Water transfer is becoming a popular method for solving the problems of water quality deterioration and water level drawdown in lakes. However, the principle of choosing water sources for water transfer projects has mainly been based on the effects on water quality, which neglects the influence in the variation of phytoplankton community and the risk of algal blooms. In this study, algal growth potential(AGP) test was applied to predict changes in the phytoplankton community caused by water transfer projects. The feasibility of proposed water transfer sources(Baqing River and Jinsha River) was assessed through the changes in both water quality and phytoplankton community in Chenghai Lake, Southwest China. The results showed that the concentration of total nitrogen(TN) and total phosphorus(TP) in Chenghai Lake could be decreased to 0.52 mg/L and 0.02 mg/L respectively with the simulated water transfer source of Jinsha River. The algal cell density could be reduced by 60%, and the phytoplankton community would become relatively stable with the Jinsha River water transfer project, and the dominant species of Anabaena cylindrica evolved into Anabaenopsis arnoldii due to the species competition. However, the risk of algal blooms would be increased after the Baqing River water transfer project even with the improved water quality. Algae gained faster proliferation with the same dominant species in water transfer source. Therefore, water transfer projects should be assessed from not only the variation of water quality but also the risk of algal blooms.

Anticancer effects of sweet potato protein on human colorectal cancer cells

AIM: To investigate the effects of proteins purified from sweet potato storage roots on human colorectal cancer cell lines. METHODS: 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, Hoechst 33258 nuclear staining and Boyden transwell chamber methods were used to determine whether purified sweet potato protein (SPP) from fresh sweet potato roots affected proliferation, migration and invasion, respectively, of human colorectal cancer SW480 cells in vitro . The inhibitory effects of SPP on growth of human colorectal cancer HCT-8 cells intraperitoneally xenografted in nude mice and spontaneous lung metastasis of murine lewis lung carcinoma 3LL cells subcutaneously transplanted in C57 BL/6 mice were also investigated in vivo . RESULTS: SPP inhibited the proliferation of SW480 cells in a dose-dependent manner, with an IC 50 value of 38.732 μmol/L (r2 = 0.980, P = 0.003) in the MTT assay. Hoechst 33258 nuclear staining further revealed inhibition of cell viability and induction of apoptosis by SPP. The transwell assay disclosed significant reduction in migrated cells/field by 8 μmol/L SPP (8.4 ± 2.6 vs 23.3 ± 5.4, P = 0.031) and invaded cells/field through the ECMatrix by 0.8 μmol/L SPP, compared with the control (25.2 ± 5.2 vs 34.8 ± 6.1, P = 0.038). Both intraperitoneal (ip) and intragastric (ig) administration of SPP led to significant suppression of growth of intraperitoneally inoculated HCT-8 cells in nude mice to 58.0% ± 5.9% (P = 0.037) and 43.5% ± 7.1% (P = 0.004) of the controls, respectively, after 9 d treatment. Bloody ascites additionally disappeared after ip injection of trypsin inhibitor. The leader propagation is one of the most important stages in long air gap *** mechanism behind leader re-illumination remains *** high humidity conditions(20.0–30.1 g/m^(3)),we have conducted experiments of long sparks in a 10 m ultra-high voltage(UHV)transmission line gap under switching impulse *** positive leaders predominantly propagate discontinuously,with almost no significantly continuous propagation *** leader channels are intensely luminous and each elongation segment is straight,with streamers resembling the“branch type”which differs from the“diffuse type”streamers at the front of continuous propagation *** distribution of the propagation velocities is highly random(3.7–18.4 cm/μs),and the average velocity(9.2 cm/μs)significantly exceeds that of continuous propagation(1.5–2.0 cm/μs).Analysis suggests that the current-velocity models suitable for continuous leader propagation do not align well with the experimental data in re-illumination *** on the discharge current waveforms and optical images,it is speculated that the newly elongated leader in re-illumination mode does not evolve gradually from the stem(about 1 cm)but rather evolves overall from a thermal channel much longer than stem.

Epidemiological characteristics of seven notifable respiratory infectious diseases in the mainland of China:an analysis of national surveillance data from 2017 to 2021

Background Respiratory infectious diseases(RIDs)remain a pressing public health concern,posing a signifcant threat to the well-being and lives of *** study delves into the incidence of seven primary RIDs dur‑ing the period 2017-2021,aiming to gain deeper insights into their epidemiological characteristics for the purpose of enhancing control and prevention *** Data pertaining to seven notifable RIDs,namely,seasonal infuenza,pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB),mumps,scarlet fever,pertussis,rubella and measles,in the mainland of China between 2017 and 2021 were obtained from the National Notifable Disease Reporting System(NNDRS).Joinpoint regression software was utilized to analyze temporal trends,while SaTScan software with a Poisson probability model was used to assess seasonal and spatial *** A total of 11,963,886 cases of the seven RIDs were reported during 2017-2021,and yielding a fve-year aver‑age incidence rate of 170.73 per 100,000 *** these RIDs,seasonal infuenza exhibited the highest aver‑age incidence rate(94.14 per 100,000),followed by PTB(55.52 per 100,000),mumps(15.16 per 100,000),scarlet fever(4.02 per 100,000),pertussis(1.10 per 100,000),rubella(0.59 per 100,000),and measles(0.21 per 100,000).Males experi‑enced higher incidence rates across all seven *** incidence was notably elevated among farmers and individu‑als aged over 65,whereas the other RIDs primarily afected children and students under 15 years of *** inci‑dences of PTB and measles exhibited a declining trend from 2017 to 2021(APC=−7.53%,P=0.009;APC=−40.87%,P=0.02),while the other fve RIDs peaked in *** seasonal and spatial distribution,the seven RIDs displayed distinct characteristics,with variations observed for the same RIDs across diferent *** proportion of laboratory-confrmed cases fuctuated among the seven RIDs from 2017 to 2021,with measles and rubella exhibit‑ing higher proportions and mumps and scarlet fever

Target-based design, synthesis and biological activity of new pyrazole amide derivatives

Based on the similarities in the conformation of VS008（N-（4-methylphenyl）-3-（tert-butyl）-1-（phenylmethyl）-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxamide） and BYIO6830（N＇-（3,5-dimethylbenzoyl）-N＇-tert-butyl-5-methyl-2,3-dihydro-l,4-benzodioxine-6-carbohydrazide） bound to the active site of the EcR subunit of the ecdysone receptor（EcR）-ultraspiracle protein（USP） heterodimeric receptor,a series of new pyrazole amide derivatives were designed and *** structures were confirmed by IR,~1H NMR,^（13）C NMR and elemental *** from a preliminary bioassay revealed that two of the pyrazole derivatives exhibited promising insecticidal ***,compounds 6e and 6i exhibited good activity against Helicoverpa armigera（cotton bollworm） at low *** displayed by tebufenozide-treated *** were identical with those displayed by its treated counterpart.6i showed the same poisoning symptoms as those of *** addition,results from molecular docking result indicated that the binding modes of 6e and 6i at the active site of the EcR subunit of the heterodimeric receptor were similar to that of the bound tebufenozide.

Elevation of the Power Factor of Co4Sb12 Skutterudite with Sm-Doping in High-Pressure High-Temperature Synthesis

A thermoelectric material Smx Co4Sb12 （0（ x ≤1.0） is synthesized at high pressure and high temperature leading to an enhanced power factor. The experimental measurements show that the SmxCo4Sb12 compounds exhibits n-type conduction. The absolute value of the Seebeck coefficient decreases with increasing Sm fraction. The resistivity increases with samarium content x from 0.1 to 0.2, but decreases dramatically when x changes from 0.2 to 1.0. The maximum power factor reaches 13.1 μ***^-1K-2 at x =1.0, which is larger than the data previously reported for the La-doped CoSb3 prepared at room pressure.

Energy band modulation of N-doped rutile/anatase TiO_(2) photoanode promoting charge separation toward prominent photoelectrochemical performance

To solve the problem of high photogenerated carrier recombination rate and low photoelectric conversion efficiency of TiO_(2)-based materials,a simple N-doped anatase/rutile TiO_(2) heterophase nanorod film was designed by a low-temperature hydrothermal method in this *** enhanced separation and transport of photogenerated charges were facilitated by the smaller contact barrier and appropriate band matching between anatase TiO_(2)nanoparticles and rutile TiO_(2) *** introduction of N doping in anatase TiO_(2) resulted in an upward shift of the valence band and a narrowing of the band gap,consequently enhancing the efficiency of visible light *** combination of the heterophase junction and N-doping exhibited a synergistic effect,effectively suppressing the recombination of photogenerated charges and enhancing the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the *** AM 1.5G irradiation,the photocurrent density(J)of the A-TO(N)@R-TONR photoanode reached2.19 mA·cm^(-2)(V_(RHE,1.23 eV)).Additionally,the incident photon-electron conversion efficiency(IPCE)and the charge injection efficiency(η)reached 81.4%and 51.6%at320 ***,the J,IPCE,andηvalues of the A-TO(N)@R-TONR photoanode were 2.96,2.1 and 3.2times those of pure R-TONR photoanode,*** work presents a rational strategy for designing efficient TiO_(2)-based photoanodes.

Accurate prediction of biliary atresia with an integrated model using MMP-7 levels and bile acids

Background Biliary atresia(BA)is a rare fatal liver disease in children,and the aim of this study was to develop a method to diagnose BA *** We determined serum levels of matrix metalloproteinase-7(MMP-7),the results of 13 liver tests,and the levels of 20 bile acids,and integrated computational models were constructed to diagnose *** Our findings demonstrated that MMP-7 expression levels,as well as the results of four liver tests and levels of ten bile acids,were significantly different between 86 BA and 59 non-BA patients(Pled that MMP-7 levels alone had a higher predictive accuracy[area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC)=0.966,95%confidence interval(CI):0.942,0.989]than liver test results and bile acid *** AUC was 0.890(95%CI 0.837,0.943)for liver test results and 0.825(95%CI 0.758,0.892)for bile acid ***,bile levels had a higher contribution to enhancing the predictive accuracy of MMP-7 levels(AUC=0.976,95%CI 0.953,1.000)than liver test *** AUC was 0.983(95%CI 0.962,1.000)for MMP-7 levels combined with liver test results and bile acid *** addition,we found that MMP-7 levels were highly correlated with gamma-glutamyl transferase levels and the liver fibrosis *** The innovative integrated models based on a large number of indicators provide a noninvasive and cost-effective approach for accurately diagnosing BA in children.
