Background: Childhood obesit. is dramat.cally on t.e rise t.roughout.t.e world. Screening and prevent.on are ideal, but.t.eat.ent.becomes necessary when a child’s body mass index (BMI) is 95% and great.r. Obesit. relat.d illness leads t. premat.re deat.. Local Problem: t.e current.pract.ce at.t.e clinical sit. for t.is project.is t. send t.e child for lab work and follow up in t.ree mont.s aft.r implement.ng lifest.le changes, including diet.and exercise. Follow-up visit., oft.n canceled or forgot.en, cont.ibut. t. a lack of evaluat.on and not.being seen unt.l t.e next.annual well visit. Met.ods: t.e measurable out.omes are t.e pre and post.BMI measurement.. A paired t.t.st.was used for dat. analysis. Compliance wit. t.e program was det.rmined by t.e diet.ry logs. Int.rvent.ons: t.e childhood obesit. project.was a self-management.project. incorporat.ng weekly t.lemedicine visit. wit. a pediat.ic provider. t.e child’s progress was document.d via t.e diet.ry log and addressed weekly wit. t.e provider. Result.: t.ere were five part.cipant. at.t.e complet.on of t.e program. t.e BMI levels of t.e pre-int.rvent.on period (M = 21.06, SD = 2.86563) and t.e post.int.rvent.on period (M = 20.9, SD = 3.13688) indicat.d t.at.t.ere was not.a significant.change in part.cipant.BMI as a result.of t.e eight.week int.rvent.on period, t.4) = 0.436, p = 0.685. Conclusions: t.is program is feasible and can be ut.lized by ot.er families and providers in fut.res st.dies. t.e availabilit. of t.lemedicine is convenient.for busy families. Furt.er st.dies are recommended wit. a larger sample size and a longer implement.t.on period t. recognize improved change.

Wet.ands are oft.n creat.d t.rough wet.and mit.gat.on t. replace lost.nat.ral wet.ands, but.furt.er evaluat.on is needed t. det.rmine t.e abilit. of a creat.d wet.and t. replace lost.wet.and funct.ons, especially providing wildlife habit.t. We used a mesocosm design t. compare t.e wat.r qualit. bet.een t.ree creat.d wet.ands and t.ree nat.ral wet.ands in West.Virginia, USA and t. evaluat. how t.e wat.r qualit. from t.e t.o wet.and t.pes were able t. support.met.morphosis in larval spring peepers (Pseudacris crucifer) and wood frogs (Lit.obat.s sylvat.cus) across t.o years (2014-2015). Responses in met.morphosis rat.s differed bet.een species and bet.een years. Spring peepers displayed similar met.morphosis rat.s in t.e creat.d and nat.ral wet.ands in bot. years of t.e st.dy. Wood frogs displayed similar met.morphosis rat.s in creat.d and nat.ral wet.ands in 2015, but.in 2014 wood frogs reached met.morphosis in less t.me and at.a larger body size in t.e nat.ral wet.ands, suggest.ng t.at.t.e wood frogs t.at.developed in t.e nat.ral wet.ands may have higher fit.ess t.an t.ose t.at.developed in t.e creat.d wet.ands. Wat.r qualit. was largely similar bet.een creat.d and nat.ral wet.ands, alt.ough dissolved oxygen, conduct.vit., and pH varied bet.een mesocosms and wet.ands. Our st.dy suggest. t.at.creat.d wet.ands may be providing part.al mit.gat.on in t.rms of wat.r qualit. for amphibian development. We recommend t.at.fut.re monit.ring of creat.d wet.ands include measures of juvenile amphibian recruit.ent.as well as addit.onal habit.t.variables t. bet.er det.rmine t.e abilit. of creat.d wet.ands t. funct.on as amphibian habit.t.

Obesit. has reached pandemic levels, being a major concern of healt.. Overweight.and obesit. are t.e precursors for met.bolic dist.rbances in t.e body. Probiot.cs and prebiot.cs administ.at.ons have shown t. reduce t.e charact.rist.cs of obesit.-induced met.bolic syndrome in animals. t.e present.st.dy examined t.e effect. of diet.ry supplement.t.on of soybean meal and Bifidobact.rium longum (BB536) singly and in combinat.on on obesit.-relat.d t.ait. in obese Zucker rat.. Cont.ol group rat. were fed wit. AIN93-M diet.and t.eat.ent.groups were fed wit. soybean meal (5 % or 10%) and Bifidobact.rium longum (0.1%) in single and combinat.ons for 100 days. Weight.gain, feed int.ke, and % of fat.in liver were recorded. Serum biochemical paramet.rs such as cholest.rol, t.iglycerides, insulin and glucose were analyzed. Act.vit.es of liver enzymat.c markers (alanine aminot.ansferase (ALt., gamma glut.myl-t.ansferase (GGt., and alkaline phosphat.se (ALP)) were det.rmined. Diet.ry supplement.t.on of soymeal at.10% wit. B. longum reduced t.e weight.gain by 30% and liver fat.cont.nt.by 35%. Feeding Bifidobact.rium longum alone did not.have any effect.in analyzing serum biochemical paramet.rs and act.vit. of liver enzymat.c markers. Serum glucose and insulin levels in rat. were lowered by 18% - 24% and 22% - 25% respect.vely when fed wit. administ.at.on of combinat.onal feeding of soymeal at.5% and 10% wit. Bifidobact.rium longum. Hepat.c enzyme act.vit. was reduced by 1.3 fold wit. t.e combinat.onal diet.at.higher concent.at.on (soy 10%). t.e present.st.dy provides evidence t.at.supplement.t.on wit. soymeal wit. probiot.c, B. longum at.enuat.s t.e met.bolic disorders induced by obesit. in obese Zucker rat..
