the authors have undertaken the determination of pH values for one buffer solution of tES without NaCl and nine buffer solutions with NaCl yielding an ionic strength I = ***-1. similar to that of blood. these buffer solutions have been evaluated in the temperature range of 5℃ to 55℃ using an extended version of the Debye-Hückel equation. the pH values are reported using 1) the Debye-Hückel extension of the Bates-Guggenheim convention in the tempera- ture range 5℃ to 55℃ and 2) with and without liquid junction correction at 25℃ and 37℃. these tES buffer solutions are recommended as secondary standard references for pH measurements in the range of pH 7.2 to 7.5 for physiological application with an ionic strength of I = 0.16 ***-1.

the coronavirus disease pandemic caught many pediatric hospitals unpreparedand has forced pediatric healthcare systems to scramble as they examine and planfor the optimal allocation of medical resources for the highest priority *** is limited data describing pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) preparednessand their health worker *** describe the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) preparedness effortsamong a set of PICUs within a simulation-based network *** A cross-sectional multi-center national survey of PICU medical director(s) fromchildren’s hospitals across the United States. the questionnaire was developedand reviewed by physicians with expertise in pediatric critical care, disasterreadiness, human factors, and survey development. thirty-five children’shospitals were identified for recruitment through a long-established nationalresearch network. the questions focused on six themes: (1) PICU and medicaldirector demographics;(2) Pediatric patient flow during the pandemic;(3)Changes to the staffing models related to the pandemic;(4) Use of personalprotective equipment (PPE);(5) Changes in clinical practice and innovations;and(6) Current modalities of training including *** report on survey responses from 22 of 35 PICUs (63%). the majority of PICUswere located within children’s hospitals (87%). All PICUs cared for pediatricpatients with COVID-19 at the time of the survey. the majority of PICUs (83.4%)witnessed decreases in non-COVID-19 patients, 43% had COVID-19 dedicatedunits, and 74.6% pivoted to accept adult COVID-19 patients. All PICUsimplemented changes to their staffing models with the most common changesbeing changes in COVID-19 patient room assignment in 50% of surveyed PICUsand introducing remote patient monitoring in 36% of the PICU units. Glioblastoma(GBM),the deadliest form of brain cancer,presents long-standing problems due to its *** antigen receptor(CAR)t cell immunotherapy has emerged as a powerful strategy to treat ***-13-receptor-α2(IL13Rα2),present in over 75%of GBMs,has been recognized as an attractive candidate for antiglioblastoma ***,we propose a novel multidisciplinary approach to target brain tumors using a combination of fluorescent,therapeutic nanoparticles and CAR t cells modified with a targeted-quadruplemutant of IL13(tQM-13)shown to have high binding affinity to IL13Rα2-expressing glioblastoma cells with low off-target ***-alkyne cycloaddition conjugation of nanoparticles to the surface of t cells allowed a facile,selective,and high-yielding clicking of the *** clicked onto t cells were retained for at least 8 days showing that the linkage is stable and promising a suitable time window for in vivo delivery.t cells clicked with doxorubicin-loaded nanoparticles showed a higher cytotoxic effect in vitro compared to bare t *** vitro and in vivo t cells expressing tQM-13 served as delivery shuttles for nanoparticles and significantly increased the number of nanoparticles reaching brain tumors compared to nanoparticles *** work represents a new platform to allow the delivery of therapeutic nanoparticles and t cells to solid tumors.

An efficient method for the conjugate addition of indoles to a variety of chalcones using BiBr3 in ethanol (190 proof) is reported. Products are isolated by a simple procedure that avoids an aqueous work up and extensive chromatography, thus minimizing waste. Bismuth (III) compounds are especially attractive from a green chemistry perspective because they are remarkably nontoxic, non-corrosive and relatively inexpensive.

Background： Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder （ADHD） is a common childhood disorder that affects approximately 11% of children in the United States. Research supports that a single session of exercise benefits cognitive performance by children, and a limited number of studies have demonstrated that these effects can also be realized by children with ADHD. the purpose of this study was to examine the effect of acute exercise on cognitive performance by children with and without ADHD. Methods： Children with and without ADHD were asked to perform cognitive tasks on 2 days following treatment conditions that were assigned in a random, counterbalanced order. the treatment conditions consisted of a 30-min control condition on 1 day and a moderate intensity exercise condition on the other day. Results： Exercise significantly benefited performance on all three conditions of the Stroop task, but did not significantly affect performance on the tower of London or the trail Making test. Conclusion： children with and without ADHD realize benefits in speed of processing and inhibitory control in response to a session of acute exercise, but do not experience benefits in planning or set shifting.

In the current report, we describe an 83-year-old biological male who self- identified as a female by legally changing his first and middle names to female ones and whose death certificate states his sex as a female. the medical history of this individual indicated complete penectomy without further specification. Postmortem physical examination revealed an absence of penis with a large scrotum, transposed urethral orifice, and small testes. the histological analysis of the testes identified abnormal epithelium in the seminiferous tubules that lacked germ and Sertoli cells as well as the interstitium without Leydig cells present. the exome sequencing of the individual’s DNA using the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Illumina platform revealed no genetic variants associated with either penile or urethral cancer that could have explained the complete penectomy, but pointed toward a potentially impaired production of t3 and t4 thyroid hormones which could account for the observed testicular malformation. Overall, the data obtained raise an important question as to whether the thyroid hormone axis could be an important part of the hormonal architecture supporting male sexual behavior.

Aim:Reconstruction of the anterior skull base offers an especially complex challenge as the impermeable separation of the dural space and the upper aerodigestive tract must be *** propose the use of the radial forearm free flaps(RFFF)as a superb method of re-establishing integrity in anterior skull base ***:Literature review and retrospective analysis of 4 single-institution cases of anterior skull base defects reconstructed with a *** were collected on successful and unsuccessful defect repairs,complication rates,and length of ***:the indications for surgery were pneumocephalus,recurrent brain abscesses,recurrent frontal sinus mucoceles,and cerebrospinal fluid *** the 4 cases,1 was complicated by a small dehiscence of the craniotomy site,1 developed infection,and 2 required further ***:the use of RFFF is an excellent option for reconstruction of defects in the anterior skull base,especially those complicated by radiation,prior surgery,or *** with skull base defects are inherently at high risk for post-surgical *** RFFF transfers healthy,viable,well-vascularized tissue to prevent further infections and provides a reliable barrier between the dural and sinonasal *** can reduce the need for repeat neurosurgical operations and hospitalizations.
