Liver transplantation is beneficial regardless of cirrhosis stage or acute-on-chronic liver failure grade:A single-center experience

BACKGROUND Liver transplantation for the most critically ill remains controversial;however,it is currently the only curative treatment *** To assess immediate posttransplant outcomes and compare the short(1 year)and long-term(6 years)posttransplant survival among cirrhotic patients stratified by disease *** We included cirrhotic patients undergoing liver transplantation between 2015 and 2019 and categorized them into compensated cirrhosis(CC),decompensated cirrhosis(DC),and acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF).ACLF was further divided into severity *** primary outcomes of interest were total days of intensive care unit(ICU)and hospital stay,development of complications and posttransplant survival at 1 and 6 *** 235 patients underwent liver transplantation(CC=11,DC=129 and ACLF=95).Patients with ACLF had a significantly longer hospital stay[8.0(6.0-13.0)vs CC,6.0(3.0-7.0),and DC 7.0(4.5-10.0);P=0.01]and developed more infection-related complications[47(49.5%),vs CC,1(9.1%)and DC,38(29.5%);Plant survival at 1-and 6-years was similar among groups(P=0.60 and P=0.90,respectively).ACLF patients stratified according to ACLF grade[ACLF-1 n=40(42.1%),ACLF-2 n=33(34.7%)and ACLF-3 n=22(23.2%)],had similar ICU and hospital stay length(P=0.68,P=0.54),as well as comparable frequencies of overall and infectious posttransplant complications(P=0.58,P=0.80).There was no survival difference between ACLF grades at 1 year and 6 years(P=0.40 and P=0.15).CONCLUSION Patients may benefit from liver transplantation regardless of the cirrhosis *** patients have a longer hospital stay and frequency of infectious complications;however,excellent,and comparable 1 and 6-year survival rates support their enlisting and transplantation including those with ACLF-3.

The aim of this paper is to highlight the current development in the research field for helping people just exposed to Ebola virus survive(treatment) and to prevent the disease when given at various times after exposure(vaccine).Concerning the treatment,recombinant anti-Ebola monoclonal antibodies and small interfering RNAs that block the expression of essential viral proteins,are the most promising way in stopping the disease when it has already reached the *** far as concerns the prevention field,two candidate vaccines have clinical-grade vials available for phase 1 pre-licensure clinical trials,and demonstrated to have a 100%efficacy in studies on non human ***-informed communities can reduce the main ways of spread the infection,by avoiding unprotected home-based care of people who are infected and also by completely modifying traditional burial practices that are way of diffusion of the contagion.

Treatment of a Polysulphide Ore by Ammoniacal Thiosulfate Solutions and Ion Flotation for Gold Recovery

Ammoniacal thiosulfate solutions with cupric ions have proved to be more successful than cyanidation in handling complex ores like carbonaceous and cuprous minerals. That＇s why cyanidation and ammoniacal thiosulfate leaching was performed at 33% of solids concentration in order to compare the efficiency of both techniques. Cyanidation delivered a gold recovery of 80.6% at 24 hours of agitation, whereas ammoniacal thiosulfate leaching achieved an 80.9% of gold recovery in only one hour of agitation. Then, the ammoniacal thiosulfate solutions obtained were submitted to five gold recovery techniques （carbon adsorption, cementation, adsorption on carbon impregnated with metallic copper, ion flotation and electrolysis） in order to determine which one of them was the most effective technique. Ion flotation proved to be the best technique due to its gold recovery of 84%. In addition, this technique only required trioctyl methyl ammonium chloride （Aliquat） and FloMin F-121 in a 0.1% concentration inside the solution. The small amounts of the flotation reagents allow the flotation concentrate to be treated by electrolysis. It was performed with 1.5 V during three hours and the resulting gold recovery was 82% in the cathode zone.

Antidepressant foods:An evidence-based nutrient profiling system for depression

AIM To investigate which foods are the most nutrient dense sources of nutrients demonstrated by the scientific literature to play a role in the prevention and promotion of recovery from depressive disorders. METHODS A systematic literature review was conducted to derive a list of Antidepressant Nutrients from the 34 nutrients known to be essential for humans using level of evidence criteria. Nutritional data was extracted for a subset of foods with a high content of at least 1 Antidepressant Nutrient using a USDA database. These foods were analyzed for Antidepressant Nutrient density resulting in an Antidepressant Food Score(AFS). Plant and animal foods were analyzed separately. RESULTS Twelve Antidepressant Nutrients relate to the prevention and treatment of depressive disorders: Folate, iron, longchain omega-3 fatty acids(EPA and DHA), magnesium, potassium, selenium, thiamine, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, and zinc. The highest scoring foods were bivalves such as oysters and mussels, various seafoods, and organ meats for animal foods. The highest scoring plant foods were leafy greens, lettuces, peppers, and cruciferous vegetables. CONCLUSION The AFS is based on a nutrient profiling system devised to identify foods with the highest nutrient density of nutrients with clinical evidence to support theirrole in depressive disorders. This list of foods and food categories with the highest density of the 12 Antidepressant Nutrients, the Antidepressant Foods, should be considered by researchers in the design of future intervention studies and clinicians as dietary options to support prevention and recovery from depression disorders.

本文介绍用非均相沉淀法制备的纳米SiC－Al2O3复合粉体经放电等离子超快速烧结得到晶内型的纳米复相陶瓷，超快速烧结的升温速率为600℃／min，在烧结温度不保温，迅即在3min内冷却至600℃以下．与热压烧结相比，可降低烧结温度200℃以上．力学性能研究结果表明，在1450℃超快速烧结得到的纳米复相陶瓷的抗弯强度高达1000MPa，维氏硬度为19GPa，断裂韧性也比Al2O3有所提高．TEM像显示纳米SiC颗粒大多分布在Al2O3母体晶粒内，而断裂表面的SEM像表明，穿晶断裂是其主要的断裂模式，这是所制备的纳米复相陶瓷力学性能大幅提高的主要原因．

Fabrication of Gypsum Panels with Low-Cost Alternative Materials

During decades, gypsum has been employed as construction material for its versatility and particle size. In the present work, the possibility of developing gypsum panels with the incorporation of pumice and polypropylene as alternative materials has been investigated. Pumice as well as polypropylene allows obtaining lighter panels than those on the market and with a lower production cost. Each one of these materials was characterized separately. In the case of gypsum and pumice, their granulometry, pH and humidity were determined, whereas polypropylene was characterized by a traction-deformation essay. Then, panels composition （gypsum and pumice concentration）, particle size, water temperature and the way polypropylene was added, was assessed. Panels with a 70% of gypsum, with a particle size of 198 btm and with polypropylene added in a laminar fashion, presented a compressive strength of 350 kPa, which accords to the norm ASTM 1396 and with market requirements. Finally, it was proposed a block diagram of the process for the fabrication of 100 kg/day of formulated panels.

Background The nationally determined contribution（NDC） presented by Argentina within the framework of the Paris Agreement is aligned with the decisions made in the context of the United Nations Framework Conven-tion on Climate Change（UNFCCC） on the reduction of emissions derived from deforestation and forest degradation, as well as forest carbon conservation（REDD+）. In addition, climate change constitutes one of the greatest threats to forest biodiversity and ecosystem services. However, the soil organic carbon（SOC） stocks of native forests have not been incorporated into the Forest Reference Emission Levels calculations and for conservation planning under cli-mate variability due to a lack of information. The objectives of this study were:（i） to model SOC stocks to 30 cm of native forests at a national scale using climatic, topographic and vegetation as predictor variables, and（ii） to relate SOC stocks with spatial–temporal remotely sensed indices to determine biodiversity conservation concerns due to threats from high inter-annual climate *** We used 1040 forest soil samples（0–30 cm） to generate spatially explicit estimates of SOC native forests in Argentina at a spatial resolution of approximately 200 m. We selected 52 potential predictive environmental covari-ates, which represent key factors for the spatial distribution of SOC. All covariate maps were uploaded to the Google Earth Engine cloud-based computing platform for subsequent modelling. To determine the biodiversity threats from high inter-annual climate variability, we employed the spatial–temporal satellite-derived indices based on Enhanced Vegetation Index（EVI） and land surface temperature（LST） images from landsat *** SOC model（0–30 cm depth） prediction accounted for 69% of the variation of this soil property across the whole native forest coverage in Argentina. Total mean SOC stock reached 2.81 Pg C（2.71–2.84 Pg C with a probability of 90%） for a total area of 460,790 km2,

Recovery of Gold, Silver, Copper and Niobium from Printed Circuit Boards Using Leaching Column Technique

Nowadays, over 300 tons of Au are used in electronic equipment each year with other precious and strategic metals such as Ag, Pt, Pd, Cu, Nb, Ta, etc.. After the use-phase, the electronic devices become electronic waste （e-waste）; consequently it is important to consider e-waste as a secondary supply for the recovery of these metals. This paper presents the recovery ofAu, Ag, Cu and Nb from PCBs （printed circuit boards） of discarded computers using leaching column technique. The PCBs were crushed with a hammer mill until reaching a particle size between 3.33 mm to 0.43 mm, Then, it was leached with a sodium cyanide solution in a glass column using the following conditions： sodium cyanide concentration 4 g/L, flux 20 L/d kg PCBs day, pH between 10.5 to 11 and leaching time 15 days. Every day, after leaching, the pregnant solutions passed through a column with activated carbon to complete the closed loop system. The following recoveries were obtained： Au 46.6%, Ag 51.3%, Nb 47.2% and Cu 62.3%. A preliminary technical-economic study shows the feasibility to create a small-scale PCBs recycling plant. The initial investment is on the order of USS155,639, considering the recovered metals from the loaded carbon. The internal rate of return for a 10 years period IRR （internal rate of return） and NPV （net present value） estimated are 27% and US$105,926 respectively.
