Interaction of silver nanoparticles with mediterranean agricultural soils: Lab-controlled adsorption and desorption studies

the production of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs) has increased tremendously during recent years due to their antibacterial and physicochemical properties. As a consequence, these particles are released inevitably into the environment, with soil being the main sink of disposal. Soil interactions have an effect on AgNP mobility, transport and bioavailability. to understand AgNP adsorption processes, lab-controlled kinetic studies were *** tests performed with five different Mediterranean agricultural soils showed that cation exchange capacity and electrical conductivity are the main parameters controlling the adsorption processes. the adsorption kinetics of different sized(40, 75, 100 and 200 nm)and coated(citrate, polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyethyleneglycol(PEG)) AgNPs indicated that these nanoparticle properties have also an effect on the adsorption *** assess the mobility and bioavailability of AgNPs and to determine if their form is maintained during adsorption/desorption processes, loaded soils were submitted to leaching tests three weeks after batch adsorption studies. the DIN 38414-S4 extraction method indicated that AgNPs were strongly retained on soils, and single-particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry confirmed that silver particles maintained their nanoform, except for 100 nm PEG-AgNPs and 40 nm citrate-coated AgNPs. the DtPA(diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) leaching test was more effective in extracting silver,but there was no presence of AgNPs in almost all of these leachates.

Fe-based catalysts are efficient systems for CO_(2)conversion via reverse water-gas shift(rWGS)***,the nature of the active phase,namely metallic iron,iron oxide or iron carbide remains a subject of debate which our paper is meant to ***0 is a much better catalyst for the rWGS than Fe_(3)*** activity of Fe0 can be promoted by the addition of Cs and Cu whose presence hinders iron carburisation while favouring both higher conversion and enhanced *** the samples are aged in the rWGS reaction mixture during stability test a new phase appear:Fe_(5)C_(2),resulting in a more active but less selective catalysts than Fe0 for the rWGS *** our results indicate that we could potentially achieve an optimal activity/selective balance upon finely tuning the proportion Fe/Fe_(5)C_(2).Beyond the fundamental information concerning active phase we have observed the presence of advanced Fischer-tropsch-like products at ambient pressure opening new opportunities for the design of hybrid rWGS/Fischer-tropsch systems.

Echium plantagineum(Boraginaceae)is native of the Mediterranean regions,has been introduced and become widespread within the American continent(North to South),South Africa,New Zealand and *** plant has seed dormancy,aggressively spreads to infest vast areas of predominantly agricultural land and is considered a toxic weed to *** objectives of this research were:(i)to study the morpho-anatomy of the diaspores of ***;(ii)to identify the pathway of water uptake;and(iii)to characterize the germination and the *** morpho-anatomical studies were carried out analyzing semi-permanent slides of transverse and longitudinal sections of the fruits,seeds and ***,histochemical and conventional staining techniques by using stereoscopic,optical and scanning electron microscopy were *** the diaspores,the water uptake pathway was determined by fast green staining,germination tests were performed and the morpho-anatomy of seedlings was *** diaspores showed acrescent calyx surrounding the fruit,composed by 4 rough tuberculate *** indehiscent mericarpid encloses an exalbuminous seed with a thin coat and a spatulate embryo with folded *** uptake took place through the vascular trace“protuberance”in the cicatrix of the mericarpid,which triggers the germination *** was epigeal,the cotyledons were photosynthetically active at the emergence,and a rudimentary developed gemmula was *** percentage was 66.5%.the macrosclereids of the pericarp functions as an obstacle to water uptake,which is overcome when the mericarpid is detached from the gynobase,and the protuberance that acts as a water uptake path is exposed,leading to *** morpho-anatomical characteristics of diaspore,explain the successful dispersal for this aggressive weed,and provide important information in relation to the necessary care for its control.
