Yield is a complex trait that is determined predominantly by the number,size,and weight of grain produced by a plant,which are all in fluenced by multiple genes and environ mental *** cereals,grain size is in flue need by envir on mental signals including nutrient availability and temperature,and by variation for genes that control the dimensions of a grain or the size of floral organs(e.g.,Heang and Sassa,2012;Brinton et al.,2017;Adamski et al.,2021;Liu et al.,2021;Xiao et al.,2021).Three recent studies have investigated subspecies of tetrapioid and hexapioid wheat that produce Ion ger grains,which form in florets that contain elongated floral structures(Adamski et al.,2021;Liu et al.,2021;Xiao et al.,2021);their findings provide new understanding of the genes controlling floret architecture,which could be used by breeders to enhance grain size and yield.

An increasing number of studies provide evidence for the existence of a microbiota-gut-brain axis and its potential involvement in the development of sporadic Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative *** neuropathologic hallmark of Parkinson’s disease is the presence of brain intraneuronal aggregates of misfolded alpha-synuclein,known as Lewy *** gut microbiota products may trigger alpha-synuclein conformational changes in the neurons of the enteric nervous system,which can then spread to the brain in a prion-like fashion through the vagus *** may interfere with neuroinflammatory pathways and susceptibility to *** this review,we assess the potential role of putative gut microbiota products in the etiopathogeny of Parkinson’s disease,with a special emphasis on functional bacterial amyloid proteins,bacterial biosurfactants,endotoxins and short-chain fatty *** possible roles of molecular hydrogen,a common byproduct of bacterial fermentation,are also addressed.

In this paper we tried to present a qualitative correlation,based on extensive experimental determinations between the value and the evolution of the friction coefficient,wear,and contact temperature,in the case of linear dry contact,for thermoplastic material reinforced with short glass fibers(SGF)and various steel *** aim was to highlight the evolution of the wear process depending on the evolution of the friction *** a result,it was possible to graphically illustrate the evolution of the friction coefficient and the change of the wear process,emphasizing the abrasive,adhesive and corrosive *** evolution of the plastic material transfer function of the contact temperature,namely of the power lost by friction(product between the contact pressure and sliding speed,p and v)was aimed and it was *** has been demonstrated that in the case of a 30%SGF content it can reach and even exceed contact temperatures very close to the flow limit of the plastic *** tried,believing successfully,the graphic illustration of the evolution of the steel surface wear and of the contact temperature,depending on the friction *** influence of the normal load and sliding speed was evaluated in detail,but also the influence of the metallic surface roughness on the friction coefficient was discussed.

Alice Notley’s Culture of On e(2011)is a“poet’s novel”about a woman who lives in the dump of a *** desert *** female character who“inhabits”the dump-and this poet’s novel-is both metonym for and guide into the lost representation of“the abject,”a concept developed by Julia Kristeva as a psychic state of horror and response to that which lies outside culturally“normalized”subjects and objects,and our“desire for meaning.”Utilizing her dump refuse for its materials,the main character,Marie,creates her own“culture of one,”standing as figure for the artist/writer plunging not“meaning”but meaninglessness and its abject association with death,which is prefigured as the unclean,the improper,rejected body parts,deviant“non-existent”personae-and,ultimately,Marie’s figural status as marginal inhabitant/“culture remaker”/older woman/multi-media“poet”*** traditional conventions of novelistic character development,plot,and visual description,Notley’s“poet’s novel”formally engages in what Viktor Shkolvsky,in his well-known essay“Art as Technique,”terms“defamiliarization”or“strangeness”(“ostranenie,”in Russian),including those principles he cites of“deceleration”and“deviation of the norm.”Notley’s work twists the binary logic implied in Shkolvsky’s“deviation”versus“norm”further by revealing abjection’s“strangeness”in the poet’s novel itself as form,”a text that is always becoming its own site of the linguistic abject,never codifying identity,or the interpreted known.

Risk of post-operative complications associated with anti-TNF therapy in inflammatory bowel disease

There have been increasing concerns regarding the safety of perioperative anti-tumour necrosis factor (anti-TNF) α agents. We performed a literature review to evaluate the post-operative complications associated with perioperative anti-TNF use in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. A comprehensive review was performed with a literature search utilizing Pub Med, Cochrane, OVID and EMBASE databases according to published guidelines. To date, there are only data for infliximab. There are three published studies which have assessed post-operative complications with perioperative infliximab use in patients with Crohn' s disease (CD), four studies in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients, and one study on both CD and UC patients. Two out of the three studies in CD patients showed no increased post-operative complications associated with perioperative infliximab. Two out of four studies in UC patients also did not show an increase in post-operative complications, and the combined study with CD and UC patients did not show an increased risk as well. Studyresults could not be combined secondary to significant differences in study designs, patient population and definition of their endpoints. There appears to be a risk of post-operative complications associated with TNF therapy in some patients. Based on these data, careful patient selection and prospective data collection should be performed.

In aquaculture industry,fish,shellfish,and aquatic plants are cultivated in fresh,salt,or brackish *** increasing demand of aquatic products has stimulated the rapid growth of aquaculture *** to effectively monitor and control water quality is one of the key concerns for aquaculture industry to ensure high productivity and high *** are four major categories of water quality concerns that affect aquaculture cultivations,namely,(1)physical parameters,e.g.,pH,temperature,dissolved oxygen,and salinity,(2)organic contaminants,(3)biochemical hazards,e.g.,cyanotoxins,and(4)biological contaminants,i.e.,*** the physical parameters are affected by climate changes,the latter three are considered as environmental *** this review,we provide a comprehensive summary of sensors,biosensors,and analytical technologies available for monitoring aquaculture water *** include low-cost commercial sensors and sensor network setups for physical *** also include chromatography,mass spectrometry,biochemistry,and molecular methods(e.g.,immunoassays and polymerase chain reaction assays),culture-based method,and biophysical technologies(e.g.,biosensors and nanosensors)for environmental contamination *** to the different levels of sophistication of various analytical techniques and the information they can provide(either fine fingerprint,highly accurate quantification,semiquantification,qualitative detection,or fast screening),we will comment on how they may be used as complementary tools,as well as their potential and gaps toward current demand of real-time,online,and/or onsite detection.

The growing use of energy by most of world population and the consequent increasing demand for energy are making unexploited low quality gas reserves interesting from an industrial point of view. To meet the required specifications for a natural gas grid, some compounds need to be removed from the sour stream. Because of the high content of undesired compounds （i.e., CO2） in the stream to be treated, traditional purification processes may be too energy intensive and the overall system may result unprofitable, therefore new technologies are under study. In this work, a new process for the purification of natural gas based on a low temperature distillation has been studied, focusing on the dynamics of the system. The robustness of the process has been studied by dynamic simulation of an industrial-scale plant, with particular regard to the performances when operating conditions are changed. The results show that the process can obtain the methane product with a high purity and avoid the solidification of carbon dioxide.

Effect of insoluble materials on the volumetric behavior of rock salt

This paper focuses on the presence of nodules of insoluble materials within salt specimens,and their effect on the volumetric strain measurements and the dilatancy *** analyzed experimental results of over 120 conventional triaxial compression tests,and found that in 20%of the cases,the volumetric strain measurements were *** also noted that the natural variability of the specimens can lead to a non-negligible data scattering in the volumetric strain measurements when different specimens are subjected to the same *** is expected given the small magnitude of those strains,but it occasionally implies that the corresponding specimens are not representative of the volumetric behavior of the studied *** order to understand these results,we numerically investigated salt specimens modeled as halite matrices with inclusions of *** of triaxial compression tests on these structures proved that such heterogeneities can induce dilatancy,and their presence can lead to the appearance of tensile zones which is physically translated into a micro-cracking *** modeling approach is validated as the patterns displayed in the numerical results are identical to that in the *** was then employed to explain the observed irregularities in experimental *** studied the natural variability effect as well and proposed a methodology to overcome the issue of specimen representativity from both deviatoric and volumetric perspectives.
