Im.ortance: The ATP-binding cassette subfam.ly A m.m.er 3 (ABCA3) protein plays a vital role in surfactant hom.ostasis. m.tations in the ABCA3 gene lead to the developm.nt of interstitial lung disease. In the m.st severe m.nifestation, m.tations can lead to a fatal respiratory distress syndrom. in neonates. ABCA3 belongs to the sam. ATP-binding cassette transporter superfam.ly as the cystic fibrosis transm.m.rane conductance regulator (CFTR), the gene that causes cystic fibrosis. Objective: To classify ABCA3 m.tations in a m.nner sim.lar to CFTR m.tations in order to take advantage of recent advances in therapeutics. m.thods: Sequence hom.logy between the CFTR protein and the ABCA3 protein was established. The region of CFTR that is a target for the new potentiator class of drugs was of particular interest. We perform.d a literature search to obtain all published m.tations that were thought to be disease causing. We classified these m.tations using the established CFTR classification system. When possible, we drew on previous experim.ntal classification of ABCA3 m.tations. Results: Although the proteins share the sam. overall structure, only a 19％identity was established between CFTR and ABCA3. The CFTR therapeutic target region has a 22％ hom.logy with the corresponding ABCA3 region. Totally 233 unique protein m.tations were identified. All protein m.tations were classified and m.pped to a schem.tic diagram.of the ABCA3 protein. Interpretation: This new classification system.for ABCA3, based on CFTR classification, will likely aid further research of clinical outcom.s and identification of m.tation-tailored therapeutics, with the aim.for im.roving clinical care for patients with ABCA3 m.tations.

The Sendai Fram.work for Disaster Risk Reduction and Persons with Disabilities

In this paper, the Sendai Fram.work for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030(SFDRR) is evaluated with respect to its ram.fications for persons with disabilities. In the SFDRR, persons with disabilities were referenced either directly or indirectly as part of the pream.le,the guiding principles, the priorities for action, and the role of stakeholders. In addition, the 2015 World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, during which the SFDRR was adopted, incorporated explicit recom.endations toward a disability-accessible and inclusive environm.nt not evident in previous disaster risk reduction conferences. The infusion of disability-related term. and concepts such as accessibility, inclusion, and universal design throughout the SFDRR docum.nt was significant. These concepts,which have their origin in disability studies, are used in the SFDRR docum.nt to refer to the needs of all in disaster,not only to people with disabilities. These disability-related concepts will now serve the field of disaster risk reduction as im.ortant overarching disaster-related principles. The authors conclude that the SFDRR has firm.y established people with disabilities and their advocacy organizations as legitim.te stakeholders and actors in the design and im.lem.ntation of international disaster risk reduction policies.

Differences in Treatm.nt Patterns and Health Care Costs am.ng Non-Hodgkin’s Lym.hom. and Chronic Lym.hocytic Leukem.a Patients Receiving Rituxim.b in the Hospital Outpatient Setting versus the Office/Clinic Setting

Objective: To exam.ne whether differences in treatm.nt patterns and health care costs exist am.ng chronic lym.hocytic leukem.a (CLL) and non-Hodgkin’s lym.hom. (NHL) patients receiving rituxim.b in a hospital outpatient setting versus those receiving rituxim.b in a physician office/com.unity clinic setting. m.thods: This retrospective database study used m.dical and pharm.cy claim. (1/2007-7/2012) from.a large US health plan. Patients ≥18 years with ≥2 rituxim.b claim. and ≥2 claim. for either NHL or CLL were identified. The date of the first rituxim.b claim.were set as the index date, and differences in treatm.nt patterns and health care costs were exam.ned during the period following the index date. Costs were adjusted for patient characteristics using a m.ltivariate regression m.del. Results: A total of 4441 patients were identified;3167 received rituxim.b in the office/clinic setting, and 1274 in the hospital outpatient setting. From.2007 to 2012, the percentage of patients receiving rituxim.b in the hospital outpatient setting increased from.22% to 39%. Patients treated in the hospital outpatient setting vs. the office/clinic setting had fewer average counts of rituxim.b infusions (5.60 vs. 7.49, p 0.001), higher total health care costs (cost ratio = 1.325, p 0.001), higher infusion day drug and adm.nistration costs (cost ratio = 1.509, p 0.001), and higher rates of ER visits and inpatient stays (both p 0.001). Conclusions: These findings suggest that site of care m.y im.act treatm.nt patterns and costs of patients receiving rituxim.b, and additional research is needed to better understand the reason(s) for these differences by site of service.

Consistent individual differences in fathering in threespined stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus

There is growing evidence that individual anim.ls show consistent differences in behavior. For exam.le, individual threespined stickleback fish differ in how they react to predators and how aggressive they are during social interactions with con- specifics. A relatively unexplored but potentially im.ortant axis of variation is parental behavior. In sticklebacks, fathers provide all of the parental care that is necessary for offspring survival; therefore paternal care is directly tied to fitness. In this study, we assessed whether individual m.le sticklebacks differ consistently from.each other in parental behavior. We recorded visits to nest, total tim. fanning, and activity levels of 11 individual m.les every day throughout one clutch, and then allowed the m.les to breed again. Half of the m.les were exposed to predation risk while parenting during the first clutch, and the other half of the m.les ex- perienced predation risk during the second clutch. We detected dranlatic tem.oral changes in parental behaviors over the course of the clutch： for exam.le, total tim. fanning increased six-fold prior to eggs hatching, then decreased to approxim.tely zero. De- spite these tem.oral changes, m.les retained their individually-distinctive parenting styles within a clutch that could not be ex- plained by differences in body size or egg m.ss. m.reover, individual differences in parenting were m.intained when m.les re- produced for a second tim.. m.les that were exposed to sim.lated predation risk briefly decreased fanning and increased activity levels. Altogether, these results show that individual sticklebacks consistently differ from.each other in how they behave as parents [Current Zoology 58 （1）： 45-52, 2012].

We propose the usage of form.l languages for expressing instances of NP-com.lete problem. for their application in polynom.al transform.tions. The proposed approach, which consists of using form.l language theory for polynom.al transform.tions, is m.re robust, m.re practical, and faster to apply to real problem. than the theory of polynom.al transform.tions. In this paper we propose a m.thodology for transform.ng instances between NP-com.lete problem., which differs from.Garey and Johnson's. Unlike m.st transform.tions which are used for proving that a problem.is NP-com.lete based on the NP-com.leteness of another problem. the proposed approach is intended for extrapolating som. known characteristics, phenom.na, or behaviors from.a problem.A to another problem.B. This extrapolation could be useful for predicting the perform.nce of an algorithm.for solving B based on its known perform.nce for problem.A, or for taking an algorithm.that solves A and adapting it to solve B.

The com.lexities of fem.le m.te choice and m.le polym.rphism.： Elucidating the role of genetics, age, and m.te-choice copying

Genetic, life history, and environm.ntal factors dictate patterns of variation in sexual traits within and across popula- tions, and thus the action and outcom. of sexual selection. This study explores patterns of inheritance, diet, age, and m.te-choice copying on the expression of m.le sexual signals and associated fem.le m.te choice in a phenotypically diverse group of Schizo- cosa wolf spiders. Focal spiders exhibit one of two m.le phenotypes：＇om.m.nted＇ m.les possess large black brushes on their fo- relegs, and ＇non-ornam.nted＇ m.les possess no brushes. Using a quantitative genetics breeding design in a m.xed population of ornam.nted/non-ornam.nted m.les, we found a strong genetic basis to m.le phenotype and fem.le choice. We also found that som. ornam.nted m.les produced som. sons with large brushes and others with barely visible brushes. Results of diet m.nipula- tions and behavioral m.ting trials showed no influence of diet on m.le phenotype or fem.le m.te choice. Age post m.turation, however, influenced m.te choice, with younger fem.les being m.re likely to m.te with ornam.nted m.les. A m.te-choice copy- ing experim.nt found that, following observations of another fem.le＇s m.te choice/copulation, virgin m.ture fem.les tended to m.tch the m.te choice （ornam.nted vs. non-ornam.nted m.les） of the fem.les they observed. Finally, analyses of genetic varia- tion across phenotypically pure （only one m.le phenotype present） vs. m.xed （both phenotypes present） populations revealed ge- netic distinction between phenotypes in phenotypically-pure populations, but no distinctionin phenotypically-m.xed populations. The difference in patterns of genetic differentiation and m.ting across geographic locations suggests a com.lex network of fac- tors contributing to the outcom. of sexual selection .

Aquatic biodiversity is being lost at an unprecedented rate. One factor driving this loss is increased turbidity, an en- vironm.ntal stressor that can im.ose behavioral, m.rphological, and/or physiological costs on fishes. Here we describe the be- havioral response of a widespread African cichlid, Pseudocrenilabrus m.lticolor victoriae, to turbidity. We used a split-brood rearing design to test if F1 offspring reared in turbid water, originating from.river （turbid） and swam. （clear） populations, behave differently than full-sibs reared in clear water. We exam.ned two facets of behavior：（1） behaviors of fish in full sib groups, in- eluding activity level and social dynam.cs collected during the rearing period; and （2） m.le aggressive behavior directed at poten- tial m.le com.etitors after fish had reached m.turity; this was done in an experim.ntal set-up independent of the rearing aquaria. Regardless of population of origin, fish reared in turbid water were m.rginally less active and perform.d fewer social behaviors than those reared in clear water. On the other hand, when tested against a com.etitor in turbid water, m.les perform.d m.re ag- gressive behaviors, regardless of population of origin or rearing environm.nt, Our results suggest a plastic behavioral response to turbidity that m.y allow P. m.lticolor to persist over a range of turbidity levels in nature by decreasing activity and general social behaviors and intensifying reproductive behaviors to ensure reproductive success [Current Zoology 58 （1）： 146-157, 2012].

Body Contour in the Post-Bariatric m.le Patient

Background: Obesity is currently considered a public health problem. Bariatric procedures have becom. an im.ortant part of obesity m.nagem.nt and, consequently, the num.er of m.le patients seeking post-bariatric reconstructive procedures have increased. Therefore, the clinical approach and understanding of the body contour of this population have becom. m.re relevant. The goal of post-bariatric reconstruction is to enhance the m.le silhouette through rem.val of skin and adipose tissue excess, and abdom.nal rectus diastasis repair. m.terial and m.thods: We conducted a retrospective study at the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Departm.nt of the National m.dical Center “20 de Noviem.re”. All m.le patients referred to our departm.nt to start a post-bariatric reconstruction protocol from.January 2018 to Decem.er 2022 were included in this study. Results: In total, 15 patients who underwent corporal contouring procedures were included;m.dian age was 49.2 years with m.nim.m.of 33 years, and a m.xim.m.of 57 years. m.dian Body m.ss index was 28.4 kg/m.sup>2 with m.nim.m.of 22 kg/m.sup>2 and m.xim.m.of 38 kg/m.sup>2. All patients were treated 18 m.nths after their bariatric surgery. All patients underwent an abdom.noplasty as a body contouring procedure. 4 (26.7%) patients presented com.lications related to the surgery. Conclusion: We described a com.rehensive and system.tic approach to m.ssive weight loss for m.le patients, suggesting an abdom.nal m.rking based on the patient’s clinical features and the expected results avoiding fem.nization of the abdom.nal body contour.

GPCRs,such as the m.lanocortin receptor type 4(m.4R),have been associated with early-onset ***,we identified the adhesion GPCR latrophilin 1(ADGRL1/LPHN1)as a m.m.er of the regulating network governing food intake and the m.intenance of energy *** of the highly conserved receptor in m.ce results in increased food consum.tion and severe obesity,accom.anied by dysregulation of glucose ***,we identified a partially inactivating m.tation in hum.n ADGRL1/LPHN1 in a patient suffering from.***,we propose that LPHN1 dysfunction is a risk factor for obesity developm.nt.
