BACKGROUND Suicide is a leading cause of preventable death worldwide,with its peak of maximum incidence in later *** often puts an individual at higher risk for suicidal *** turn,depression deserves particular interest in old age due to its high prevalence and dramatic impact on health and *** To gather integrated evidence on the potential risk factors for suicide behaviour development in depressive older adults,and to examine the effects of depression treatment to tackle suicide behaviour in this *** A systematic review of empirical studies,published from 2000 onwards,was *** behaviour was addressed considering its varying forms(i.e.,wish to die,ideation,attempt,and completed suicide).RESULTS Thirty-five papers were selected for review,comprising both clinical and epidemiological *** of studies focused on suicidal ideation(60%).The studies consistently pointed out that the risk was related to depressive episode severity,psychiatric comorbidity(anxiety or substance use disorders),poorer health status,and loss of *** social support and loneliness were also associated with suicide behaviour in depressive older ***,the intervention studies showed that suicidal behaviour was a robust predictor of depression treatment *** in suicidal ideation were moderated by reductions in risk factors for suicide *** To sum up,common and age-specific risk factors seem to be involved in suicide development in depressive older adults.A major effort should be made to tackle this serious public health concern so as to promote older people to age healthily and well.

A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the dietary inclusion of full-fat flaxseed of full-fat sunflower seeds on performance parameters,egg quality parameters and egg yolk fatty acid profile in laying hens.A total of 150 Babcock Brown hens at 27 weeks of age were distributed in 3 experimental treatments,as follows:T1,control;T2,diet containing 13.5% full-fat whole flaxseed seeds;and T3,diet containing 13.5% full-fat ground sunflower *** and water were provided ad libitum and the experiment lasted for 8 *** significant differences were found on egg quality parameters,but total egg production and rate of lay were significantly(P <0.05) lower in the group receiving sunflower seeds compared with the control,and significant differences(P <0.05) in egg yolk saturated,monounsaturated,polyunsaturated,omega-6(n-6) and omega-3(n-3) fatty acids were observed,as well as in the n-6:n-3 *** results show that the dietary inclusion of 13.5% flaxseed full-fat seeds significantly increases the n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid(PUFA) content in the eggs and lowers the n-6:n-3 ratio without affecting performance *** of full-fat sunflower seeds increases the n-6 PUFA content but affects total egg production and rate of *** studies are needed to determine the level of inclusion of full-fat sunflower seeds that does not affect performance.

Expanding the functionalities of plasmon-assisted lasers is essential for emergent applications in nanoscience and ***,we report on a novel ability of plasmonic structures to induce dual-wavelength lasing in the near-infrared region in a Yb^(3+) solid-state *** means of the effects of disordered plasmonic networks deposited on the surface of a Yb^(3+)-doped nonlinear RTP crystal,room-temperature dual-wavelength lasing,with a frequency difference between the lines in the THz range,is *** dual-wavelength laser is produced by the simultaneous activation of two lasing channels,namely,an electronic-and a phonon-terminated laser *** latter is enabled by the out-of-plane field components that are generated by the plasmonic structures,which excite specific Raman ***,multiline radiation at three different wavelengths is demonstrated in the visible spectral region via two self-frequency conversion processes,which occur in the vicinities of the plasmonic *** results demonstrate the potential of plasmonic nanostructures for inducing drastic modifications in the operational mode of a solid-state laser and hold promise for applications in a variety of fields,including multiplexing,precise spectroscopies,and THz radiation generation via a simple and cost-effective procedure.

Pyridine nucleotides, ascorbate and glutathione are major redox metabolites in plant cells, with specific roles in cellular redox homeostasis and the regulation of the cell cycle. However, the regulation of these metabolite pools during exponential growth and their precise functions in the cell cycle remain to be characterized. The present analysis of the abundance of ascorbate, glutathione, and pyridine nucleotides during exponential growth of Arabidopsis cells in culture provides evidence for the differential regulation of each of these redox pools. Ascorbate was most abundant early in the growth cycle, but glutathione was low at this point. The cellular ascorbate to dehydroascorbate and reduced glutathione （GSH） to glutathione disulphide ratios were high and constant but the pyridine nucleotide pools were largely oxidized over the period of exponential growth and only became more reduced once growth had ceased. The glutathione pool increased in parallel with poly （ADP-ribose） polymerase （PARP） activities and with increases in the abundance of PARP1 and PARP2 mRNAs at a time of high cell cycle activity as indicated by transcriptome information. Marked changes in the intracellular partitioning of GSH between the cytoplasm and nucleus were observed. Extension of the exponential growth phase by dilution or changing the media led to increases in the glutathione and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, oxidized form （NAD）-plus-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, reduced form （NADH） pools and to higher NAD/NADH ratios but the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, oxidized form （NADP）-plus-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, reduced form （NADPH） pool sizes, and NAPD/NADPH ratios were much less affected. The ascorbate, glutathione, and pyridine nucleotide pools and PARP activity decreased before the exponential growth phase ended. A study on the spatial and seasonal variations of the associate macroalgae and epiphytes of Thalassia testudinum was carried out in Bahía de Nuevitas. Sixty-two species were identified: 3 Cyanophyta, 25 Chlorophyta, 8 Phaeophyceae, 23 Rhodophyta and 3 Magnoliophyta, with two new records for Cuba and 43 for the area. The differences in the specific composition of the macroalgae communities are determined by a space component related to the type of affectation in each area. The morpho-functional groups of macroalgae in the station with more nutrient influence were mainly foliaceous and filamentous. In the stations far from the city, the predominant morpho-types were the leathery and articulate calcareous indicators of lower nitrification levels. The abundance and diversity of macroalgae in the site affected by fisheries were lower due to the damage by bottom trawls. Seasonal variations were found in the relative abundance of the species, not in the diversity, which makes evident seasonal changes in the structure of the seaweeds, where some species replace others in the community.

We analyzed the allelic and genotypic frequencies of the glutathione-S-transferase P1 （GSTPI） rs1695 single nucleotide polymorphism （SNP） in 290 patients with multiple sclerosis （MS） and in 310 healthy controls. We found no significant association between the rs1695 variant and MS. Among MS patients, there was no relationship between the rs1695 variant and either gender, clinical type of MS or the age of onset of MS.
