This study gives an overview on the nutritional value, bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity (ABTS and FRAP) of Bronte’s pistachio (Pistacia vera, L., cv. Bianca) from Sicily (Italy). Bronte’s pistachios are rich in fat, protein, dietary fiber, trace elements (Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn) and minerals (Ca, P, K, Mg, Na). Lipids mainly consist of MUFA (33.8 g/100g), primarily oleic acid (32.4 g/ 100g);PUFA is mostly represented by linoleic acid (7.49 g/100g). Bronte’s pistachios are also a valuable source of bioactive compounds such as total polyphenols (501.5 mg/100g), lutein (1.26 mg/100g), β-carotene (0.18 mg/100g), γ-tocopherol (19.2 mg/100g) and phytosterols (134.4 mg/100g). Among phytosterols, the main is β-sitosterol (86% of total content), followed by Δ5-avenasterol (6.3%). Phytic acid content is 1763 mg/100g;Ins(1,2,4,5,6)P5 and Ins(1,2,3,4,5,)P5 have been detected too (31 mg/100g and 10 mg/100g, respectively). The antioxidant activity was determined both in hydrophilic and lipophilic fraction of pistachios, showing >80% of the total antioxidant activity in the hydrophilic, predominately due to phenolic compounds.

The study provides original data on the compositional profile (macronutrients, dietary fiber, mineral and trace elements, bioactive molecules) of an Italian typical plant foods, Treviso Red Cichory, studying the two cultivars (Early, Late) grown following two different traditional cultivation systems. For two consecutive years plants from three growing areas, were studied. Major, significant differences, between Early and Late cultivars, were observed in minerals (Ca, Mg, P), trace elements (Fe, Zn) and bioactive molecules content. The Late cv. was found the richest in minerals and trace elements content than the Early cv., but for Ca. Treviso Red Cichory was found a valuable source of bioactive molecules such as ascorbic acid, anthocyanins and total polyphenols. The Early cv. showed a significantly higher (p d and total anthocyanins content (8.63 and 92.15 mg/100g, respectively) than the Late cv. (6.15 and 24.38 mg/100g, respectively), by contrast total polyphenols content was significantly higher (p Late cv. A marked variability in bioactive molecules content among the growing areas was found only for the Late cv. The observed differences between the Early and Late cultivars could be strictly related to the traditional growing systems applied during plant’s growth.

This study was undertaken to evaluate the influence of growing systems (conventional, organic and biodynamic performed with two types of manuring) on some nutritional traits of the tomato breeding line CXd271BIO (Solanum lycopersicum L.). Experimental fields were in the same geographical area and the cultivations were performed over five years. The content of macronutrients, minerals (Ca, K, Mg, P, Na), trace elements (Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn) and phenolic acids (chlorogenic, caffeic, p-coumaric and ferulic acids) was determined. The biodynamic A growing system showed the highest protein and carbohydrates content compared to the other growing systems. data on minerals and trace elements content showed significant differences (mainly in Ca, Na, Fe and Zn content) between conventional and biodynamic tomatoes, whereas no major impact of the fertilization among organic and the two biodynamic growing systems was observed. Appreciable differences in phenolic acids biosynthesis were observed, with the year of harvest showing a marked effect especially on chlorogenic, p-cumaric and ferulic acids content. Conversely, the cultivation system did not show major influence. Principal Components Analysis (PCA), performed on mineral and phenolic acids content, substantiated the large effect of the year of harvest, also suggesting an effect of the conventional cultivation system.

dysfunction in circadian rhythms is a common occurrence in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.A predominant function of the retina is circadian synchronization,carrying information to the brain through the retinohypothalamic tract,which projects to the suprachiasmatic ***,Alzheimer’s disease hallmarks,including amyloid-β,are present in the retinas of Alzheimer’s disease patients,followed/associated by structural and functional ***,the mechanistic link between circadian dysfunction and the pathological changes affecting the retina in Alzheimer’s disease is not fully understood,although some studies point to the possibility that retinal dysfunction could be considered an early pathological process that directly modulates the circadian rhythm.

Biodiversity loss is a significant problem at a global scale and may be amplified by climate *** recent years,coniferous forests have had substantial die-back across Europe due to drought and subsequent bark-beetle *** many studies on the consequences of disturbance and subsequent management have focused on natural stands,management implications for managed spruce stands are not well understood,even though such stands are widespread throughout *** this study,beetle taxonomy,conservation value,and community com-position are compared among spruce plantations and four post-disturbance management approaches:standing dead-wood,lying deadwood,clear cuts,and long-term *** and community composition differed significantly among management categories,while different beetle fami-lies responded *** spruce stands harbored the lowest beetle diversity while the highest taxonomic diver-sity and conservation value was on clear cuts and stands with lying or standing *** proportion of forest specialists was highest in successional *** summary,different forest management categories harbored distinct beetle communities at the family-,species-,and ecological guild ***,post-disturbance management should consider the landscape scale and include different management *** enhances landscape heterogeneity and thus overall biodiversity but could also mitigate negative impacts of natural disturbances on ecosystem services.

Nowadays buildings contain innovative materials,materials from local resources,production surpluses and rapidly renewable natural *** Change Materials(PCM)are one such group of novel materials which reduce building energy *** the wider availability of microencapsulated PCM,there is an opportunity to develop a new type of insulating materials,combinate PCM with traditional insulation materials for latent heat energy *** materials are typically flammable and are located on the interior wall finishing yet there has been no detailed assessment of their fire *** this research work prototypes of low-density insulating boards for indoor spaces from hemp shives using carbamide resin binder and cold pressing were ***-scale cone calorimeter tests were conducted to evaluate fire risk,with a focus on assessing material flammability properties and the influence of PCM on the *** this research,the amount of smoke,heat release rate,effective heat of combustion,specific extinction coefficient,mass loss,carbon dioxide yield,specific loss factor,ignition time of hemp straws samples and samples of hemp straws with 10%and without PCM admixture were *** is a risk of flammability for PCM and their fire reaction has not been evaluated when incorporating PCM into interior wall finishing *** obtained results can be used by designers to balance the potential energy savings of using PCM with a more complete understanding and predictability of the associated fire risk when using the proposed *** also allows for appropriate risk mitigation strategies.

Individuals with autism spectrum disorder(ASd)often exhibit motor deficits that increase their risk of *** is a lack of understanding regarding gait biomechanics demonstrated by older children with *** purpose of the study was to determine differences in gait patterns between older children with ASd and typically developing *** children with ASd and 11 age-and gender-matched typically developing children were recruited for the *** walked on a force-instrumented treadmill at a constant speed(1.1 m/s-1.2 m/s)for five minutes(min).Participants performed maximal voluntary contractions to assess their knee muscular *** between individuals with ASd and matched control participants were examined through paired t-tests with a significance level of p*** with ASd demonstrated a smaller knee extensor torque compared to controls(p=0.002).Participants with ASd exhibited a shorter stride length(p=0.04),a greater cadence(p=0.03),and a higher variation in stride width(p=0.04)compared to control *** individuals with ASd experienced a greater braking ground reaction force(p=0.03)during loading *** results indicate older children with ASd develop a unique gait pattern signified by a reduced stride length,increased cadence,and an increase of variation in stride *** unique gait pattern may represent a movement strategy used by the individuals with ASd to compensate for the weakness associated with their knee extensor *** with ASd who demonstrate these unique gait deviations may face reduced postural stability and an increased risk of fall-related injuries.
