1D-2D nanohybrid-based textile strain sensor to boost multiscale deformative motion sensing performance

The development of strain sensors with both superior sensitivity(gauge factor(GF)>100)and broad strain-sensing range(>50%strain)is still a grand ***,which demonstrate significant structural deformation under microscale motion,are required to offer high *** connection of materials upon large-scale motion is demanded to widen strainsensing ***,it is hard to achieve both features ***,we design a crepe roll structure-inspired textile yarn-based strain sensor with one-dimensional(1D)-two-dimensional(2D)nanohybrid strain-sensing sheath,which possesses superior *** ultrastretchable strain sensor exhibits a wide and stable strain-sensing range from microscale to large-scale(0.01%–125%),and superior sensitivity(GF of 139.6 and 198.8 at 0.01%and 125%,respectively)*** strain sensor is structurally constructed by a superelastic 1D-structured core elastomer polyurethane yarn(PUY),a novel high conductive crepe roll-structured(CRS)1D-2D nanohybrid multilayer sheath which assembled by 1D nanomaterials silver nanowires(AgNWs)working as bridges to connect adjacent layers and 2D nanomaterials graphene nanoplates(GNPs)offering brittle lamellar structure,and a thin polydopamine(PDA)wrapping layer providing protection in exterior *** the stretching/deformation process,microcracks originate and propagate in the GNPs lamellar structure enable resistance to change significantly,while AgNWs bridge adjacent GNPs to accommodate applied stress partially and boost *** 1D crepe roll structure-inspired strain sensor demonstrates multifunctionality in multiscale deformative motion detection,such as respiratory motions of Sprague–Dawleyw rat,flexible digital display,and proprioception of multi-joint finger bending and antagonistic flexion/extension motions of its flexible continuum body.

Exacerbated VEGF up-regulation accompanies diabetes-aggravated hemorrhage in mice after experimental cerebral ischemia and delayed reperfusion

Papillae alterations around single-implant restorations in the anterior maxillae:thick versus thin mucosa

To evaluate the papilla alterations around single-implant restorations in the anterior maxillae after crown attachment and to study the influence of soft tissue thickness on the papilla fill alteration. According to the inclusion criteria, 32 patients subjected to implant-supported single-tooth restorations in anterior maxillae were included. The patients were assigned to two groups according to the mucosal thickness：（i） group 1, 1.5 mm≤mucosal thickness≤3 mm; and （ii） group 2, 3 mm〈mucosal thickness≤4.5 mm. Assessments of interproximal papillae at the time of crown placement （baseline） and at 6-month postloading （follow-up） were made by two prosthodontists using papilla fill index （PFI）. The mean mucosal thickness was （2.49±0.31） mm （group 1） and （3.81±0.31） mm （group 2） for the two groups respectively. A significant difference in PFI between the groups was detected at the baseline （P〈O.O01）. PFI improvements over time occurred after 6-month follow-up irrespective of the groups. When compared to group 1, the likelihood to obtain papilla fill was significantly higher for group 2 with an odds ratio of 6.05 （P〈O.O01）. The interproximal papilla level around single-implant restorations could improve significantly over time after 6-month restoration according to PFI assessment. The thicker mucosa before implant placement implied a more favorable esthetic outcome in papilla alteration.

A ruptured recurrent small bowel gastrointestinal stromal tumour causing hemoperitoneum

Hemoperitoneum is a rare and potentially life-threatening complication of GIST. We reported a 54- year-old man who developed disseminated intra-abdominal recurrence from a previously resected gastrointestinal stromal tumour （GIST） of the small bowel, and the patient presented with hemoperitoneum. Emergent debulking surgery was performed. A high dose imatinib was prescribed. Despite the presence of residual disease, the patient was well clinically 8 months after the operation. Even though, there is no evidence to support the routine use of debulking surgery in the management of GIST. In our patient, disease progression after second line targeted therapy and the absence of alternative treatment options for spontaneous rupture and hemoperitoneum prompted us to treat the patient aggressively. Resection of the ruptured GIST was carried out for control of bleeding and to prevent recurrent bleeding in this patient with good surgical risks. During the treatment decision-making, the patient＇s general condition, the risk of surgery and the extent of dissemination were taken into consideration. In this patient who presented with spontaneous rupture of a small intestinal GIST, the novel use of targeted therapy and aggressive surgical treatment produced reasonably good survival outcome.

A homogeneous layer of Bi_2O_3-Bi_(14)WO_(24) composite(BWO/Bi_2O_3) thin film was fabricated using a combination of electrodeposition and thermal treatment. The evenly distributed Bi14 WO24 component within the Bi_2O_3 layer was found to be important in stabilising the photoelectrochemical performances of Bi_2O_3 photoanode by promoting the photoelectron transport. The unmodified Bi_2O_3 suffered from severe photocorrosion as proven by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and inductively coupled plasma(ICP) analyses while the composite thin film was active without noticeable activity decay for at least 3 h of illumination. This strategy might be applicable to other photocatalysts with stability issues.

Efficient expression of histidine-tagged large hepatitis delta antigen in baculovirus-transduced baby hamster kidney cells

AIM： To study the baculovirus/mammalian cell system for efficient expression of functional large hepatitis delta antigen （L-HDAg）. METHODS： A recombinant baculovirus expressing histidine-tagged L-HDAg （L-HDAgH） was constructed to transduce baby hamster kidney （BHK） cells by a simplified transduction protocol. RESULTS： The recombinant baculovirus transduced BHK cells with efficiencies higher than 90% as determined by flow cytometry. The expression level was significantly higher than that obtained by plasmid transfection and was further enhanced 3-fold to around 19 pg/cell by the addition of 10 mmol/L sodium butyrate. Importantly, the expressed L-HDAgH was localized to the cell nucleus and correctly isoprenylated as determined by immunofluorescence labeling and confocal microscopy. Moreover, L-HDAgH interacted with hepatitis B surface antigen to form virus-like particles. CONCLUSION： The fusion with histidine tags as well as overexpression of L-HDAgH in the baculovirus-transduced BHK cells does not impair the biological functions. Taken together, the baculovirus/mammalian cell system offers an attractive alternative for high level expression of L-HDAgH or other proteins that require extensive posttranslational modifications.

Objective To investigate the in vivo immunomodulatory and anti-tumor mechanisms of the combined treatment of novel Four-Herb formula(4HF)and doxorubicin in triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC).Methods Murine-derived triple-negative mammary carcinoma cell line,4T1 cells,was cultured and inoculated into mouse mammary ***-six mice were randomly assigned into 6 groups(n=11 in ench):naive,control,LD 4HF(low dose 4HF),HD 4HF(high dose 4HF),LD 4HF+D(low dose and doxorubicin),and D(doxorubicin).Apart from the naive group,each mouse received subcutaneous inoculation with 5×10^(5)4T1 cells resuspended in 100µL of normal saline in the mammary fat *** from the day of tumor cell inoculation,tumors were grown for 6 *** LD and HD groups received daily oral gavage of 658 and 2,630 mg/kg 4HF,*** LD 4HF+D group received daily oral gavage of 658 mg/kg 4HF and weekly intraperitoneal injection of doxorubicin(5 mg/kg).The D group received weekly intraperitoneal injections of doxorubicin(5 mg/kg).The treatment naive mice received daily oral gavage of 0.2 mL double distilled water and 0.1 mL normal saline via intraperitoneal injection once a *** control group received daily oral gavage of 0.2 mL double-distilled *** treatment period was 30 *** the end of treatment,mice organs were harvested to analyze immunological activities via immunophenotyping,gene and multiplex analysis,histological staining,and gut microbiota *** Mice treated with the combination of 4HF and doxorubicin resulted in significantly reduced tumor and spleen burdens(P<0.05),altered the hypoxia and overall immune lymphocyte landscape,and manipulated gut microbiota to favor the anti-tumor immunological ***,immunosuppressive genes,cytokines,and chemokines such as C-C motif chemokine 2 and interleukin-10 of tumors were significantly downregulated(P<0.05).4HF-doxorubicin combination treatment demonstrated synergetic activities and was most effective

In vivo genome editing thrives with diversified CRISPR technologies

Prokaryotic type II adaptive immune systems have been developed into the versatile CRISPR technology, which has been widely applied in site- specific genome editing and has revolutionized biomedical research due to its superior efficiency and flexibility. Recent studies have greatly diversified CRISPR technologies by coupling it with various DNA repair mechanisms and targeting strategies. These new advances have significantly expanded the generation of genetically modified animal models, either by including species in which targeted genetic modification could not be achieved previously, or through introducing complex genetic modifications that take multiple steps and cost years to achieve using traditional methods. Herein, we review the recent developments and applications of CRISPR-based technology in generating various animal models, and discuss the everlasting impact of this new progress on biomedical research.
