Childhood malaria in the Niger delta area of Nigeria:mothers/care givers'perception,definition and treatment practices

Objective:The objective of the study was to evaluate mothers/care givers perception of malaria,their treatment practices and the effects on the outcome of ***:Four hundred and sixty children were enrolled and their mothers/care givers *** children were screened for malaria parasitaemia and there after,blood specimens were obtained for biochemical and haematological evaluation from those children who met the criteria and tested positive to *** *** cell volume,electrolytes,urea, creatinine,plasma glucose,and serum bilirubin were ***:A total of 460 children were studied, 233(50.7%) males and 227(49.3%) *** malaria cases were 112(24.3%) and severe malaria 348(75.7%).Those who presented early 106(23.0%) and those who presented late 354(77.0%).Perception and definition of malaria as well as the treatment seeking behaviors vary significantly with the level of education of the mothers and care *** without formal education 68(51.9%) wrongly perceived that the etiology of malaria can only be diagnosed by native doctors compared to those with primary six education 61 (26.5%) and junior secondary education 10(10.1%).Only 43(9.3%) gave the correct dose of chloroquine syrup to their sick children,while 32(7.0%) gave at sub optimal ***:Wrong perception of malaria especially the complicated malaria and wrong treatment practices are major contributory factors to the high mortality and morbidity of malaria in *** is therefore a need for health education to correct the wrong ideas about the cause and treatment practices of malaria as part of malaria control programme.

Natural swarms arranged from cells to herds are usually decentralized but display intriguing collective intelligence in coordinating individuals across large scales to efficiently achieve their common goals. learning from nature may provide new strategies for controlling collective dynamics of synthetic swarms to accomplish specific functions. Here, we present a bioinspired computational framework that steers distributed active swarms to collectively capture and merge targets via reinforcement learning. We exploit collective milling structures of natural herds to cage the targets, and adopt a switching control policy inspired by sperms' chiral dynamics to optimize the trajectories of individuals, through which the active swarms can selforganize to enclose single or multiple distant targets in a dynamical, adaptive and scalable manner. There exists a critical swarm size, beyond which the excessive competition between agents would generate large mechanical forces, leading to capture instability but enabling the transition from short-distance to long-distance merging capture of multiple targets. This work provides physical insights into distributed active swarms and could offer a multilevel, decentralized strategy toward controlling swarm robotics in wide applications such as bio-medical devices, machine immunity, and target clearance.

This paper introduces a method for modeling the entire aggregated electric vehicle(EV)charging process and analyzing its dispatchable *** methodology involves developing a model for aggregated EV charging at the charging station level,estimating its physical dispatchable capability,determining its economic dispatchable capability under economic incentives,modeling its participation in the grid,and investigating the effects of different scenarios and EV penetration on the aggregated load dispatch and dispatchable *** results indicate that using economic dispatchable capability reduces charging prices by 9.7%compared to physical dispatchable capability and 9.3%compared to disorderly ***,the peak-to-valley difference is reduced by 64.6%when applying economic dispatchable capability with 20%EV penetration and residential base load,compared to disorderly charging.

Ambient mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) enables hundreds of analytes in tissue sections to be directly mapped at atmospheric pressure with minimal sample preparation. This field is currently experiencing rapid growth, with numerous reported ambient ionization techniques resulting in a "hundred flowers bloom" situation. Nanospray desorption electrospray ionization (nano-DESI), developed by the laskin group in 2010, is a widely used liquid-extraction-based ambient ionization technique that was first used for mass spectrometry imaging of tissue in 2012. The nano-DESI probe comprises a primary capillary and a nanospray capillary, with the latter efficiently transferring analyte-containing droplets via a tiny liquid bridge formed between the probe and sample surface, thereby enabling nanoelectrospray ionization (nano-ESI) in front of the inlet of a mass spectrometer. The advantages of nano-DESI MSI include minimal sample preparation, high spatial resolution, and high sensitivity. These features are well-suited for imaging various sample types, including frozen tissue sections, microbial communities, and environmental samples. A PubMed-database search using the "nano-DESI" keyword revealed 72 related articles in the 2010-2024 period, with 34 of them published between 2021 and 2024, which indicates that nano-DESI has rapidly developed as an ambient ionization technique over recent years. Herein, we briefly introduce key nano-DESI-MSI research progress reported in the past three years with the aim of better understanding and facilitating the use of this technology. We first discuss advances in ion-source development. Since no commercial nano-DESI source exists, designing and constructing ion sources remain technical challenges that limit its development. This paper comprehensively investigates the buckling load and the stability of a planar linear array deployable structure composed of scissor-like element(SlE)under *** present,the researches on deployable structure are mainly focused on configuration design and dynamics characteristics of the mechanisms,but less on structural *** fact,when the external load exceeds the structural critical load value,the deployable structure will be permanently deformed or even collapse directly and no longer have any bearing *** address this issue,a new stability model is derived using linear elastic analysis method and substructure method to evaluate the buckling characteristics of the deployable structure with n SlEs when it is carried out in space,which can accurately obtain the structural instability load and can be used quantitatively to optimize the structure for making it have the most stable *** addition,the effects of the number of elements,the length,material properties and flexibility of the bar,and the deployment degree on the buckling of the scissor deployable structure are investigated,and the results of the theoretical analysis are compared with simulation and analytical results,respectively,confirming that the proposed stability model not only is able to effectively predict the structural instability load but also determine which part of the deployable structure is *** can be concluded that the stability of the deployable structure gradually decreases with the increase of the number of elements or the bar *** the cal.ulation process,the critical load of each sub-element should be considered,and the minimum value of the critical loads of all subunits can be regarded as the instability load of the whole structure.

In this study,a hybrid uncertainties-based analysis and optimization method is presented for the designs of the powertrain mounting system(PMS)involving mixed *** the presented method,the PMS parameters with sufficient data are treated as random variables,while those with limited information are defined as interval ***,an uncertainty-based analysis method called as hybrid interval-random perturbation-central difference method(HIRP-CDM),is proposed to compute the hybrid interval-random outputs of the inherent characteristics of the PMS in concerned *** addition,the hybrid interval-random-Monte Carlo method(HIR-MCM)is developed to verify the computational accuracy of ***,an optimization model mixed uncertainties is built up for the PMS design based on HIRP-CDM,in which the hybrid intervalrandom outputs of the concerned inherent characteristics are adopted to construct the design objective and *** complex optimization problem can be effectively settled by means of *** effectiveness of the presented method is verified by a numerical example.

Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury（HIRI） is characterized by mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. Monitoring mitochondrial hydrogen peroxide（mtH2O2） levels in real-time through super-resolution imaging is crucial for elucidating its distribution in live cells and its mechanism of action during HIRI. However, low-background fluorogenic probes have been overlooked in the context of super-resolution imaging. In this study, we developed a low-background fluorogenic probe（MitoWG） with the potential for super-resolution morphology-correlated mitochondrial identification to track the fluctuates of mtH2O2in HIRI. Activation of the desirable fluorescence properties of the probe by mtH2O2was confirmed using structural il.umination microscopy（SIM）, enabling high-quality mitochondrial imaging with exceptional specificity and *** in mtH2O2levels were successfully observed in both cel.ular and rat models of HIRI. Furthermore, we associated the decline in mitochondrial redox homeostasis with accelerated mtH2O2production during HIRI, which triggered mitophagy deficiency and led to cell death. In conclusion, Mito-WG possesses excellent photophysical and low-background properties for SIM imaging, making it a promising tool for mtH2O2tracking in HIRI research and clinical diagnosis.

The mechanical behavior of cemented gangue backfill materials(CGBMs)is closely related to particle size distribution(PSD)of aggregates and properties of cementitious ***,the true triaxial compression tests,CT scanning,SEM,and EDS tests were conducted on cemented gangue backfill samples(CGBSs)with various carbon nanotube concentrations(P_(CNT))that satisfied fractal theory for the PSD of *** mechanical properties,energy dissipations,and failure mechanisms of the CGBSs under true triaxial compression were systematically *** results indicate that appropriate carbon nanotubes(CNTs)effectively enhance the mechanical properties and energy dissipations of CGBSs through micropore filling and microcrack bridging,and the optimal effect appears at P_(CNT)of 0.08wt%.Taking PSD fractal dimension(D)of 2.500 as an example,compared to that of CGBS without CNT,the peak strength(σ_(p)),axial peak strain(ε_(1,p)),elastic strain energy(ue),and dissipated energy(u_(d))increased by 12.76%,29.60%,19.05%,and90.39%,***,excessive CNTs can reduce the mechanical properties of CGBSs due to CNT agglomeration,manifesting a decrease inρ_(p),ε_(1,p),and the volumetric strain increment(Δε_(v))when P_(CNT)increases from 0.08wt%to 0.12wt%.Moreover,the addition of CNTs improved the integrity of CGBS after macroscopic failure,and crack extension in CGBSs appeared in two modes:detour and pass through the ***σ_(p)and u_(d)firstly increase and then decrease with increasing D,and porosity shows the opposite ***ε_(1,p)andΔε_(v)are negatively correlated with D,and CGBS with D=2.150 has the maximum deformation parameters(ε_(1,p)=0.05079,Δε_(v)=0.01990)due to the frictional slip effect caused by coarse *** increasing D,the failure modes of CGBSs are sequentially manifested as oblique shear failure,"Y-shaped"shear failure,and conjugate shear failure.

Nowadays,force sensors play an important role in industrial production,electronic information,medical health,and many other ***-dimensional material-based filed effect transistor(2D-FET)sensors are competitive with nano-level size,lower power consumption,and accurate ***,few of them has the capability of impulse detection which is a path function,expressing the cumulative effect of the force on the particle over a period of *** we fabricated the flexible polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)gate dielectric MoS_(2)-FET for force and impulse sensor *** systematically investigated the responses of the sensor to constant force and varying forces,and achieved the conversion factors of the drain current signals(I_(ds))to the detected impulse(I).The applied force was detected and recorded by I_(ds)with a low power consumption of~30 *** sensitivity of the device can reach~8000%and the 4×1 sensor array is able to detect and locate the normal force applied on ***,there was almost no performance loss for the device as left in the air for two months.
