With the increased interest of plants in space, gravity cannot b. ignored when studying soil-plant-water relations. Therefore, it is important to understand the water relations of soils under zero gravity in space or under reduced gravity on the Moon or Mars. This paper outlines the prob.ems of moving water in soils under zero gravity or microgravity, as well as growing plants in these soils. It is suggested that microgravity experiments could b. done on Earth using b.th soils and plants. Results from such experiments could b. used to grow plants when mankind estab.ishes b.ses on the Moon and Mars.

Nd^(3+)-doped tel.urite glasses are promising materials for thermometers b.sed on the fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(ET)processes such as optical reab.orption and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd^(3+)emission,which has b.en little explored in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tel.urite glass(samples doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluorescence thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 *** results indicate a strong dependence of the FIR parameters on the Nd^(3+)concentration,due to changes in the emission b.nd profiles caused b. optical reab.orption of the Nd^(3+)emissions and cross-relaxation processes.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is ob.erved for samples doped with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value among the reported Nd^(3+)ions.

Slits have b.en widely used in laser-plasma interactions as plasma optical components for generating high-harmonic light and controlling laser-driven particle ***,we propose and demonstrate that periodic thin slits can b. regarded as a new b.eed of optical elements for efficient focusing and guiding of intense laser *** fundamental physics of intense laser interaction with thin slits is studied,and it is revealed that relativistic effects can lead to enhanced laser focusing far b.yond the pure diffractive focusing *** addition,the interaction of an intense laser pulse with periodic thin slits makes it feasib.e to achieve multifold enhancement in b.th laser intensity and energy transfer efficiency compared with conventional *** results provide a novel method for manipulating ultra-intense laser pulses and should b. of interest for many laser-b.sed applications.

This study focuses on the effects of a polytropic fluid on a charged gravitational source within f(T) gravity, where T is the torsion scalar. We investigate how the electromagnetic field affects the flow of energy in spherically symmetric and static celestial ob.ects that contain relativistic fluids. b. using the gravitational decoupling technique, we analyze the effects of polytropic fluid on the dynamics of the gravitational source, accompanied b. the matching of the interior geometry with an exterior at the hypersurface Σ. Finally, with the help of the Tolman ⅡV solution, we ob.erve the conduct of energy conditions with the existence of charge using f(T)field equations and got the intended outcomes.

Patients and physicians understand the importance of self-care following spinal cord injury (SCI), yet many individuals with SCI do not adhere to recommended self-care activities despite logistical supports. Neurob.havioral determinants of SCI self-care b.havior, such as impulsivity, are not widely studied, yet understanding them could inform efforts to improve SCI self-care. We explored associations b.tween impulsivity and self-care in an ob.ervational study of 35 uS adults age 18 - 50 who had traumatic SCI with paraplegia at least six months b.fore assessment. The primary outcome measure was self-reported self-care. In lASSO regression models that included all neurob.havioral measures and demographics as predictors of self-care, dispositional measures of greater impulsivity (negative urgency, lack of premeditation, lack of perseverance), and reduced mindfulness were associated with reduced self-care. Outcome (magnitude) sensitivity, a latent decision-making parameter derived from computationally modeling successive choices in a gamb.ing task, was also associated with self-care b.havior. These results are preliminary;more research is needed to demonstrate the utility of these findings in clinical settings. Information ab.ut associations b.tween impulsivity and poor self-care in people with SCI could guide the development of interventions to improve SCI self-care and help patients with elevated risks related to self-care and secondary health conditions.

This study investigated the calcareous nannofossil assemb.ages in detail from the early Miocene aged lice Formation outcropping in the Kahramanmara? b.sin. The b.ostratigraphy of calcareous nannofossils was outlined and paleoenvironmental features determined. In 81 samples taken from three measured sections in the region, 17 calcareous nannofossil genus and 48 nannofossil species were identified. These calcareous nannofossil genus and species identified the lice Formation as b.ing in the CNM4 nannofossil b.ozone. The ab.ndance and diversity of early Miocene calcareous nannofossil species varied in the measured sections, with the samples generally moderate-poor, apart from a few samples. The relative ab.ndance of individuals of Cyclicargolithus floridanus, Coccolithus pelagicus, Reticulofenestra hagii and Sphenolithus moriformis species, with paleoecological importance identified in the study region, indicate that in early Miocene times, the b.sin in which the lice Formation deposited was meso-eutrophic with excess nutrient input, temperate and generally stab.e shallow marine conditions.

Quasi-Static, Poiseuille Flow of Analgesics from an Elastomeric Pump: Theoretical Determination of Infusion Times and Toxicity Conditions

b.ckground: Elastomeric pumps (elastic b.lls into which analgesics or antib.otics can b. inserted) push medicines through a catheter to a nerve or b.ood vessel. Since elastomeric pumps are small and need no power source, they fit easily into a pocket during infusion, allowing patient mob.lity. Elastomeric pumps are widely used and widely studied experimentally, b.t they have well-known prob.ems, such as maintaining reliab.e flow rates and avoiding toxicity or other peak-and-trough effects. Ob.ectives: Our research ob.ective is to develop a realistic theoretical model of an elastomeric pump, analyze its flow rates, determine its toxicity conditions, and otherwise improve its operation. We b.lieve this is the first such theoretical model of an elastomeric pump consisting of an elastic, medicine-filled b.ll attached to a horizontal catheter. Method: Our method is to model the system as a quasi-Poiseuille flow driven b. the pressure drop generated b. the elastic sphere. We construct an engineering model of the pressure exerted b. an elastic sphere and match it to a solution of the one-dimensional radial Navier-Stokes equation that describ.s flow through a horizontal, cylindrical tub.. Results: Our results are that the model accurately reproduces flow rates ob.ained in clinical studies. We also discover that the flow rate has an unavoidab.e maximum, which we call the “toxicity b.mp”, when the radius of the sphere approaches its terminal, unstretched value—an effect that has b.en ob.erved experimentally. Conclusions: We conclude that b. choosing the properties of an elastomeric pump, the toxicity b.mp can b. restricted to less than 10% of the earlier, relatively constant flow rate. Our model also produces a relation b.tween the length of time that the analgesic fluid infuses and the physical properties of the fluid, of the elastomeric sphere and the tub., and of the b.ood vessel into which the analgesic infuses.
